I'll say this: the modes and maps for Battlefront 2015's DLC expansions are great. It's some of the weapons and Star Cards that were introduced that seriously called, and call, into question game balance.

Fact is bf15 has a wider skill gap than bf2 imo, many aspects of bf2 can be learned to allow the average player to be good, bf15 is a lot less forgiving.

Cargo is a great mode, but recently I had the most frustrating experience I have ever had in Cargo. It seriously makes me not want to try playing it again. This is a bit of a rant, so apologies in advance.

I select Cargo and get put on the Rebel side for Sullust - Imperial Hangar. I like that map, so all is well. I load in to the loadout, character, and weapon selection screen. My first clue that all was not well was the fact that several shadow troopers and stormtroopers could be seen constantly Jump Packing around the hangar. No rebels, just stormtroopers. Then I notice the score at the top: 1-9. Oh boy. I load in with Wodi and his A280C anyway. I fire several shots at stormtroopers and try to venture into the enemy base. I'm dead. Over and over again. My only kill was a shadow trooper who was distracted by my comrade. That's not the point, though.

The point is that every single enemy, all of them, were using variations of the exact same loadout and weapons. The loadout: Jump Pack, Personal Shield (or Adrenaline Stim), and Bacta Bomb. The weapons: EE-3 and EE-4. The trait: Bodyguard. Translation: these guys were nearly unkillable. Oh, and they all spam rolled like crazy. Needless to say, our team lost horribly. After the first few seconds of the same thing on Endor, the next map, I quit, disgusted and extremely annoyed.

This loadout is what ruins Battlefront 2015 for me, especially the small game modes. It makes unkillable super soldiers, and ruins the fun and immersion of the game. It is the most annoying and OP combo, and so, so many people use it as their only loadout. It's so incredibly frustrating. OK, rant done.

Probably just a group of overachievers trolling, usually is, if they were any good they would have been running no traits and no triangles.

I just can't stand that loadout. It just ruins the game for me. And the fact is that everyone knows it is overpowered, and that nothing can counter it.

They can be annoying but they can taken out, I do it all the time. In pubs scatter gun is a good option and pick ups can make or break, if you pick up a rocket don’t waste it on a random, take out the lvl3 bg user. Also many of these guys are in a party so that in itself is a huge deal vs a group of randoms. If possible get with a few friends and play. Good luck man.

As a shooter BF2015 is in a completely different league than BF2 no doubt about it.
But I do like how the different classes stop one particular load out taking over a games meta. They had the right idea but with the focus and resources mainly spent on developing Heroes it left the infantry play very basic and uninspiring. If they'd invested equally in Trooper weapons, load outs and game modes I actually think BF2 could have surpassed BF2015.

100%. I see people talking about “(insert hero) will save this game”. Well when one player can be that specific hero at a specific moment in a game, I don’t believe it. They need to focus on the bones of the game and make main course options before worrying about the side dishes of a gaming meal.

Of the 50 or so of my friends on PS4 that played BF2015 almost exclusively during it's run, none of them have made the jump to BF2.
It's no secret that BF2 underperformed in terms of sales compared to BF2015, but I think the whole 'Lootbox' controversy takes too much credit for driving gamers away. I had absolutely no problem with the Grind and I don't think any of my old crowd would have an issue either. They avoid BF2 because of how lacking the gunplay and infantry game modes are.
Cargo, Dropzone etc could be a massive draw to bringing some of the old crowd back.

    My thoughts exactly man.

Yup. Bring back regular cargo and DZ!!

So much replay value with simple/small modes. Real question is: does DICE/EA really care about retaining/adding players anymore ? (Hint:no, at least not really)

    Yeah, I agree.

Cargo is 2 Flag Capture the Flag (classic CTF 2 flag rules); I loooooove Capture the Flag. Strike also has a kind of 1 Flag Capture the Flag (save you do not bring the flag back to your base but a new destination). Jetpack Cargo was Jetpack 1 Flag Capture the Flag (classic CTF 1 flag rules). But yeah, Cargo is well missed. I wanted it Online and Offline, same with Strike and Jetpack Cargo.

    Soooooo much crazy fun.

  • Maybe they are secretly changing JPC to regular cargo as a holiday/new year surprise.
I try not to get too excited for something like that, they love their vacations... especially since apparently all of their effort is going towards what they've said we'll be getting. We haven't even gotten new maps- scratch that, A new map for Extraction, one of their most popular modes. I'd love for a juicy & frantic Cargo drop, but I'm not thinking about it yet. Here's hoping they prove me wrong.
"I felt there was a large amount of human chauvinism... also I felt very bad that at the end the Wookie didn't get a medal also... oh, all the people got medals but the Wookie who had been in there fighting all the time, didn't get any medal, and I thought that was an example of Anti-Wookie discrimination." - Carl Sagan on the subject of Star Wars
    He knew.

Yeah, I think you’re right. I l know they’re not secretly making... they would be promoting it like crazy on the magical road map to keep people around if so
  • Yeah it’s been good tonight for the dlc, bespin and OR has been good but a full DS dlc was the nice surprise. It a scarif are always fun, the rareity makes them feel like new games.
  • If they added just a couple of games of Cargo they could put them into rotation with Extraction rather than putting Extraction in with Strike. Which will be a mistake.
  • Maybe they are secretly changing JPC to regular cargo as a holiday/new year surprise.

What a great surprise that would be for December

I love cargo so much it was one of the five orginal game modes in 2005 battlefront 2( Conquest, hero assualt, assualt, Hunt, capture the flag). Before anyone ask. When I say it’s one of the originals I mean cargo is basically the same as capture the flag one of the 5 fantastic game modes of 2005 battlefront 2. Also cargo is a better name for capture the flag and fits better in the Star Wars universe. The old battlefronts were lazy in naming there game modes. Hero assualt(now HVV), capture the flag(now cargo). Too bad DICE only recreated hero assualt and capture the flag in the new games into HVV and cargo. Wish we got assualt(capital ships) and conquest plus a full on Hunt mode.

Sadly I agree, this game is apparently ill equipped for it imo, all we can hope for is thay add it and DropZone as they were originally intended to battlefront 3. Hopefully they do a 3.

There isn't a sliver of doubt in my mind that DICE introducing infantry only Cargo would bring back and keep A TON of players to BF2. No twists or unnecessary changes for the sake of change. Just good ol' Cargo.

Well peeps, the thread is up to 20 pages. Special thanks to @SAmulticore for leading the charge with it. Cargo is a mode that deserves more love. If EA is looking for for ways to keep the population alive do what must be done. Add original cargo back into BF2.

"DICE must have hidden the cargo mode development code in the game files. Send a developer down to retrieve them. see to it personally commander. There will be no one to stop Cargo being added this time"

It's disgraceful they haven't added Cargo yet
  • but it fits the pattern doesnt it? anything that is successful they shut down. adding more maps to extraction or let it die on the vine? heroes unleashed, make it permanent? dream on. ewok hunt very popular on launch, but no improvement no new maps, its dying R2. cargo could be the next extraction, meaning a legacy mode that would bring a lot of fans back. yet they wont add it. i expect nothing less.

It’s honestly solid, all they would need to do is fix the bugs, and implement a balance change. It is a great base game, just riddled with bugs and sadly no new maps or modes.

Based on lackluster sales and a declining playerbase, most people don't agree. The amount of diehard Battlefront players who abandoned the game is unreal. This includes guys who played 3,500+ hours on BF15.

Like I said, if they fixed all the bugs, added Cargo and Drop zone, new weapons and maps, along with Conquest, it would literally revive the game. Cargo already is one of the most popular modes, and if they literally added that in, most people I know would play this again. Like it isn’t too hard to make this game good, it’s just that the devs can’t do it fast enough.

Honestly, adding in Cargo would bring most players back, as evidenced by this thread lol.

Many people have moved on at this point, unfortunately

I agree that adding those modes would make this game so much better, but I’m not sure DICE cares enough to shell out some time and money towards these modes if they aren’t going to get guaranteed money for it.
  • Yup. Cargo alone would give this game the boost in playerbase that it needs.

Adding infantry only Cargo is a no brainer.

I agree that adding those modes would make this game so much better, but I’m not sure DICE cares enough to shell out some time and money towards these modes if they aren’t going to get guaranteed money for it.

    Keep the hope alive.

Sadly I agree, this game is apparently ill equipped for it imo, all we can hope for is thay add it and DropZone as they were originally intended to battlefront 3. Hopefully they do a 3.

I don't know if I want them to do a three yet, I would rather them hold back and actually develop the game.

Same, this game has good bones on it. If they’d fix a few things and add some more stuff I don’t see a reason for a third one

Exactly. They would just need to actually fix this one up.

Respectfully disagree. This game is a mess. If DICE makes another Battlefront game, they should start from scratch.

    I share those concerns

  • Yup. Cargo alone would give this game the boost in playerbase that it needs.

Adding infantry only Cargo is a no brainer.

They're too prideful in their decision to replace it with strike. Money also plays in, as Kenobi posted above

I dunno. If they applied the resources that would go into building a game from scratch into fixing and adding to this game (modes/skins/hero’s/maps) I think they’d be in a great place beyond what I could imagine. It’s a big “if” though I admit.

    Two things will prevent it:

    1) Lack of developers, resources, and support
    2) Lack of financial incentives
  • I think at some point I confused Cargo with Drop Zone (when I first read the capture the flag post, or maybe I didn't and think I confused them), but I wouldn't mind either of them coming to this game.

Many people have moved on at this point, unfortunately

Not me! But I wish the devs would just notice what would be good for the game, just like what we've been discussing here in the new posts today! I have to hand it to you guys, thanks for that many more posts to this invisible thread.

1000th comment. Surprised and impressed that this thread just keeps going. I'm on PS4 and similar to the XBox comments above, regularly see several of my mates from BF15 online and still playing Cargo on it. I've asked several of them why they continue to play it and not the current game... No Cargo is the answer.

I've gone back a few times and played it the last several months. It was enjoyable, until all the bactaguards inevitably arrived and ruined it. I'd love to have it with the current class system, and no reinforcements or heroes.
Yes, play! Yes, a gamer's strength flows from adjustment. But beware of the nerf side...not adapting your tactics, stubbornness, wanting the game catered to you; the nerf side of gaming are they. Easily they flow, quick to join you in a death & respawn. If once you start down the nerf path, forever will it dominate your destiny, consume you it will, as it did many an apprentice.
