Shouldn't be paying twice for the same species to use on both Rebel & Resistance faction

So far I'm liking how the customization is turning out. I imagine more skins are going to be coming in the future. The only issue I have is how ridiculous it is to have to pay twice for one certain species to use in both factions. Say you wanted the Zabrak or Duros skin for both the Rebels and Resistance, which costs 20,000 credits and you pay for one of them on the Rebel side. The issue right now is you're not able to use that same race for the Resistance unless you pay again for the same species. It feels like a ripoff that idea as you're paying for the same race twice to use for both factions resulting in a cost of 40,000 credits; the cost of an epic hero skin.

I recommend that when you pay for one species, it should be open for both the Rebels and Resistance so you're not forced to pay for the same skin twice to reduce credit grinding. Also because there are about 10 species right now with more coming in the future, that's too many credits to invest on for the sake of using the same species for both factions.

Definitely. I don't like how this is set up either. Like you said, there is no reason to be paying for the same thing just for separate factions twice.

Completely agree. I already purchased all the different skins for resistance and rebels, but I feel like I got mildly hosed on the deal.
  • Yeah....This just seems like a money grab TBH. This is exactly why there were issues in the FIRST place with MTX. Just....there's no reason for this. They are literally the SAME ALIEN HEADS!!

I understand if you have to unlock the same skin for each class, but the same skin for the same class in different eras? Just....please. The basis for the MTX is right, and I would love to support the change, but....can we just have something good without tarnish? Please? It's GOOD, but you just put something DUMB in here like that! It kills me.
  • "Shouldn't be paying twice for the same species to use on both Rebel & Resistance faction."

    Then don't.
  • I know that! My point is I shouldn't have to use my credits twice to pay for the same alien species on both factions. It results in more credit grinding.

Why the heck not? You want your specialized look to just be handed out to everyone then yes? Not so special any More then is it...

I agree it's just them wanting you to waste credits so you'll eventually have no choice but to spend money

You hit the nail on the head. Between the high credit prices for the skins and the fact you have to repeat buy the species skins for Resistance and Rebels, it's pretty clear that EA's intention was to heavily encourage people to buy crystals. In a way it's understandable, afterall all of the map/character DLC for the game is free, so they have to make their profit somewhere, but it is still annoying. I spent dozens of hours banking up 190k credits for this update, and it still wasn't enough to get every skin I wanted to get, not even close.

they made more than enough profit from the 10 million plus copies of the game sold. That 'free dlc' excuse for micro transactions is ****. They're simply being greedy and trying to create a grind to make people spend money

In a few months when you have credits building up and nothing to spend them on you wont care.

Without knowing the budget (development + marketing) of the game it's hard to say with any degree of certainty that the 10m+ copies they sold covered the whole budget. They probably have broke even and started to make a profit, but it's always hard to say with AAA games, some of them have outrageous budgets.

Anyway, historically speaking, larger DLC's have pretty much always been paid, since their inception during the 6th generation with games like Halo 2 and the original Battlefront 2, up until a couple of years ago, when several shooter developers decided that paid DLC splits the community too much, which was detrimental to the longevity of a game's multiplayer. Typically speaking, those DLC's cost money in order to pay for the development of the DLC, the publisher has to commit valuable development resources to the development of DLC instead of putting those developers to work on a new game. The publishers don't treat profit made on copies sold toward the costs of developing the DLC, they count that as profit, they don't want to invest it back into the game in the form of free DLC. It is what it is and it's most likely not going to change, the community will either have to choose between asking for a return to the Paid DLC packs of yesterday, splitting the community in the process, or they'll have to choose Free DLC that is paid for by cosmetic micro-transactions.

Don't know about that. Each of the seasons is supposed to have new skins, starting with season 2 in May. In addition, there is a strong chance we'll get new skins in the smaller between season updates. There are still plenty more skins they can add, the Republic faction has no skins yet (most likely being saved for season 3 since we've seen those skins in a leak already), the Galactic Empire faction is missing them for Assault, Heavy, and Specialist, Separatists have none (though I'm not sure there are any skins they can add for the Separatists). There are still plenty more hero skins they can add over time, including Young Han and Young Lando skins for the likely Solo movie based season 2 next month, Boushh Leia, Slave Leia, Princess Leia, Old Leia, Bespin Luke, Tatooine Luke, Pilot Luke, Old Luke, A New Hope Han, Old Han, Jabba Guard Lando, Hooded Maul (episode 1 Tatooine), Rebels Maul, no helmet Boba, no helmet Phasma, battle damaged Vader, no hood Palpatine, and more. Not to mention skins for new heroes/villains they will likely add over time who had multiple outfits/appearances like Obi-Wan, Anakin, Padme, Mace, Jyn, Ahsoka, Ventress, etc.

Well, it's good for revenue and it isn't hard to earn enough. Not said as any kind of flippant or inflammatory response, it's just how I see it. Pragmatic.

Honestly, every single reply on this thread by @ZephanUnbound has been the most accurate descriptions of why this is and why it won't change. I agree with him and you really do have to understand marketing and business.

  • I mean... from an economic standpoint I can get why they would sell everything separately. But I do agree that we shouldn't have to pay for the same head more than once. It just feels kinda wrong. They could adjust the prices according to the number of units that can use a specific head - so mostly the human heads might get a little more expensive, I guess - but once you've bought it, every eligible unit can equip it.

Is this still an issue in the game? I have been mostly out of the game since January due to real life commitments and other games coming out. I haven't kept up with SWBF2 news. I recently started playing again and wanted to unlock some of these appearances. It would be a bummer if the same alien were locked for the resistance if I unlocked it for the rebels.
