Specialist Weapon idea: A280-CFE configuration swap

In Rogue One, we've seen Cassian Andor use this pistol in a variety of situations, from the skirmish in Jedha City to the Battle of Scarif, and is seen adding the sniper extension on Eadu. This would be a great benefit to the specialist if it could also swap it between sniper and pistol to give it some usefulness at close range without relying on a heavy ability cooldown. I'd imagine it would be as effective as the base officer blaster for balance reasons, but I'd still love to see it nonetheless. Besides, it looks cool, too.

Even though they used the wrong one XD They used Jyn's pistol instead of Cassian's. Made no sense, but the idea was there. They could even add it on the Assault too, or even the Officer and have it change to the rifle in their hands. Or keep it on Specialist and make the mods the different configurations! Oh man, I never considered that until literally now! Star off with the pistol, then unlock the variants later, or keep the variants and add universal mods that the pistol and the sniper/assault rifle both can equip, like increased cooling or better accuracy. There's so much more to this than I first realized.............

    It's the A180 I believe.
But yeah, it would be cool to see. I wouldn't really want it replacing all the abilities though, because then you'd want to equip all boost cards, and then if you switched... Oh, idk. I'd like to see it in-game if they made it work. My be both the Assault and the Specialsit could have it in pistol form, and the Assault can change it to the Rifle config and Soecialsit has Sniper? They could change the config by pressing the 'view abilities' button.

Yeah, I was thinking of both having the pistol and change the different modes depending on the class. That way we get a little variety and technically 3 new weapons, but on top of that gives the Specialist even more viability.

The A180 was Jyn's pistol, but it didn't transform. They did that so they could give her an extra ability and give normal troops an iconic blaster while also having the extra stuff in there. I wouldn't mind that as a blaster on its own, as like a medium range, slightly heavier-than-the-base-blaster, but not S-5 worth of damage while being the most accurate in pistol class.

    Seriously, needs to be
  • A180 Does exist. Basic resistance sniper rifle.

Oh yeah? Exactly like I said would be a good idea to add? The A180 isn't a sniper rifle in Rogue One, it's a pistol they used instead of the one it's supposed to be. Read 1st, then THINK, then talk.
  • Don't need to. It's great at all ranges.

I didn't say the sniper needed to be better at close range. I said we'd get a new weapon that could work for multiple classes and give more variety to those classes. I'm really starting to doubt the presence of reading comprehension in the community.............
  • From the RO:UVG:
"Cassian's BlasTech A280-CFE (covert field edition) features modular construction that allows a core pistol to be reconfigured into a sniper or assault rifle."
So yes, it's the A280, not the A180, and reconfiguration to pistol is supported by canon. Let's go for it.

Exactly what I saw to make sure it was the correct name XD

Also, now that I think about it, the A180 doesn't have a sniper form. What they use in this is the actual A280 sniper and use the sniper they use for the CFE is the assault rifle form!
  • Pistol config was a blast and the sniper config was VERY satisfying to get kills with. Had some good runs with this beauty.

I liked the pistol because it was all around great and it had the "ADS" mechanic like the DL-18 in 1st person. And having this for the Specialist give it a good alternative for close range so they're always viable in terms of assault/damage.
