Officer Shield Use

Is there anything more annoying than an officer who puts his shield up in front of you when your shooting? Other than objectives where you have to constantly be present is there any tactical advantage to these things? They seem to hurt the team more than help in my opinion.

  • I always do this when people are using blaster cannons. It’s hilarious.

You are the person/people that I love. You are that Officer that places down a shield for Vader just for kicks knowing that your teammates are screwed because of it. I salute you

This just gave me a brain wave; imagine if instead of just placing down the shield immediately, the first time you hit the button, you get an outline on the ground to show the range of the Shield's bubble. Then when you get it in a position you want, you press the button again to place it?

That way, you could place the shield just right, so that it overlaps the turret gunner, but leaves the turret itself outside the shield and free to fire. I think it would definitely make the turrets a more viable option.

The only thing that might be more annoying is when you rocking the cannon and someone steps in front of you and blocks all of your shots.

Makes me wish you could friendly fire your teammates.

  • OP you just have to understand the game caters for players with varying levels of intelligence ;)
  • There are a few donkeys dropping shields at the wrong time or place
But a do appreciate the switched on players who place it over a objective that you have to hold the button on
There the team players who deserve bonus points for having common sense
Not the drongos who place it at the entrance of a door for the enemy to walk in safe from getting shot

Was playing as the specialist once and I had a fantastic shot at a player, would have been a one shot kill....but a wookiee steps in front of me from outta no where and I shoot him instead. I was like, seriously man!

  • There are plenty of ways to use the shield effectively and where they can bring a great tactical advantage. When capturing points, absolutely, but also to breach choke points and close distances. That of course only works if the assault classes follow and push through to the new temporarily protected zone. That is rare... So instead of standing still and being mad at the officer in question, maybe take a quick moment and try figure out if he actually has a plan in mind? Sometimes they are dropped in bad places, that’s unfortunate. But it’s probably not to annoy you. To me they are a great asset, atleast when you’re advancing.

  • Lol people are allowed to press the wrong button in error and not be labelled?

THe problem is the people who are defending are the ones who always put it down in places it shouldn't be, like on objectives the enemy needs to hack/capture, or in doorways that the enemy funnels through to make it easier for them. I mean, it's a basic concept that's easier than any other class assist in the game, why are people this bad at understanding it??

    100% this.

Playing last night I had my Exploding Sentry wasting the enemy as they were trying to take an objective. Nobody was staying there for longer than a second before they ran. Until an officer on my team put his hamster ball in between me and them. Mental capacity of Jar Jar.
Somewhere between "the sky is falling" and "everything is awesome" lies the truth.
  • Best utilization for Shield in GA is placing one down for a hero at low health so they’ve got some time to recover. That’s always a pretty liberating feeling.

  • What amazes me the most is they make such bad use of the squad shield without it being a stock ability.

I could understand it being there for every stock officer and not knowing how to use it so well at some point.

But those guys actually have to go through some work to get the card, think that it's good enough to use one of three precious slots and equip it. Just to often make it a liability for their own team.
  • I just had a donkey Officer drop a shield right in the Palace Hallway on Phase 2 of Theed while we're on defense. Then the little cockroach ran back to the room with objective. I followed him around attempting to melee my own freaking teammate out of pure rage. Miraculously, he dies before the hallway is breached so I can go back to properly defending the hallway with a Heavy, only to have Leia show up 2 seconds later and drop her shield in the same flippin' place! Probably the same knucklehead player! So I followed Leia around giving her the ole melee stick until Maul shows up and kills both of us. Then I let myself time out back to the main menu so I could type some hatemail because that was boneheaded torture. Why would you put a shield there???? I really want to try to understand the reasoning behind it!

I've seen some amazingly dumb shield placement, but that one I haven't. Lol

Yeah, and both times I was full sentry mode laying waste to the other team trying to breach the palace. It was so bad it felt intentional. But the worst part is that it happened twice, so close together. I'm fairly confident I had two knucklehead players thinking the same thing.
  • I wish the ion grenade didn't replace the termal detonator so then I could have both. One for the enemy, and one for my ldiot team putting shields in places that only ever benefit the enemy.
  • I usually don't experience it from officers out of ill intent, rather it is the product of the officer crapping themselves.

How about the teammate that jumps in front of your disrupter rocket just as it fires at the MTT.

Oh god, yes. I'll jump in front of my friend if he's sniping, but that's it. The worst was a combination of OPs situation and yours - it was about 90% charged, then this nerf herder puts a shield down over me. Like, wut? Why?
Normally if there's a badly placed shield and I'm playing Hevay I'll just pop my Sentry and melt it quickly. It just annoys me as well when there's a sort of well placed shield... Until an objective is completed, and then it just gets in the way and is an advantage for the enemy. People don't seem to realise that they can retrigger the ability to deactivate it. Same with Leia's shield - it can be undeployed by pressing the button again.

Just the other day I was tuning one up on Endor and a teammate flew by on a speeder. I nailed him. Lol
