TIE Interceptor laser cannon fixes needed

Let's just start with the facts, it's awful. It overheats far too quickly and doesn't put out enough damage to make up for it. Doing some damage/Star Card testing in Arcade, the Interceptor's cannons allow for 12 shots with no card bonus, and only add 1 extra shot per Star card rarity bonus. The standard X-wing fighter takes 7 shots to be destroyed. A Y-wing takes 10. This, combined with the staggering overheat rate, means if you miss any shots, you might not even be able to destroy a regular fighter. You have to be directly on point at all times to get any sort of positive return on your attacking attempts. I'm confused why the TIE needs to have the quad-cannon fire as a base instead of an ability like it was last game. Replace the concussion missile with the quad-cannon ability and it'd make it far more viable as an interceptor and in more situations, period.

Use the card that reduces heat build up, by having it at blue it makes the tie interceptor amazing, if you have it at purple? Well thennit will be a monster

Did you miss the whole "Doing testing in Arcade" bit or did I write that out in my head?

Dude you must of Tested the cards wrong, a 5%, boost to a 10%, to a 20%, then to a 40% is more than just one extra shot, how is 5 to 10 one shot, but 20 to 40 is still one shot? No, try your testing again

They should change the firing pattern of the TIE Interceptor to something similar to the X-Wing's. One of the four cannons at a time instead of all four together.

Actually, that's exactly how it works during Return of the Jedi:

The video focus on it shooting from the wings instead of the firing pattern, but it's easy to see it.

I really don't understand why the cannons don't alternate fire? It makes zero sense to have them firing all at once.

I completely agree the A-Wing is 100 times better than the Interceptor.

It goes from 12 to 16 total shots at max card rank. You do the math.

I agree. Interceptor is my favorite class, when I'm the empire I pass for the fighter. It never felt right even with all purples

Well don't hold down the trigger, do burst fire, then when they are about to die hold it down, but don't hold it down right off the start.

  • Yeah, the Empire's Interceptor is surprisingly my least favorite because of precisely its weapons. I mean if people can do well with it, more power to ya. Me? I'm gonna choose the fighter instead.

But yeah...The A-Wing just wrecks far better than any of the other Interceptors in my opinion.

Just alternating fire would be great imo.

  • The TIE Interceptor is a prime example of "If it isn't broken, don't fix it" but boy, did they fix it.
  • One on one combat between two evenly skilled pilots. No cards. One pilot is in the TIE Interceptor and the other pilot in the A-wing. Who are you putting your money on?
The TIE Interceptor is my favorite starfighter in SWBF I but in SWBF II, I'll choose the TIE Fighter.
This overheat problem with the TI has been going on for a long time. Not a game programmer so I don't know what is involved in adjusting the firing pattern but doing so would help bring balance to the Force.

Its overheat way too fast, i really love the interceptor class beside the tie interceptor. Even with the purple card that reduce heat, its still overheat like 2-3 sec.

Indeed. Currently the TIE Interceptor's laser cannons generate too much heat per shot, even with the legendary cooling card equipped. DICE could reduce the heat generation by a decent amount and/or change the fire pattern to match the X-wing's and it would be much easier to use.

Remember to use Hard Lock, that with the less heat card and you can put off some pretty big burst damage. I don't even used Tuned Lasers or the Increased Fire-rate Card so i'm pretty sure the TIE Interceptor does some good damge with those equipped.

It's not so much that the Tie Interceptor doesn't put out enough damage, it's the way it puts out damage.
With the A-Wing, you can spray an enemy, miss a few shots, and still get the kill. With the Tie Interceptor, since all four blasters fire at once, if you miss a "shot" you've just missed with four bolts and wasted that much heat buildup. And the heats builds up very quickly. Also, you're mostly firing at light-side ships with astro-mechs, so waiting for a cooldown means you've just lost the initiative.

I've recently been trying to use Interceptors more, but trying with the Tie seems harder than it should be.

I play with all cards in purple, i use the card that decreases overheating and the card that improves rate of fire, and i must say that TIE interceptor fire feels wrong to me if you compares with other interceptors fire, lasers looks "laggy" if you compares with A-Wing fire I. E.

I used the cards that increase damage, middle ability cooldown, and reduce heat build-up, and it took way too long to down other ships. If an X-wing can take 7 shots at max damage that's half of your max shots just to take down a ship the TIE was designed to annihilate with ease.
