The one bit of news everyone missed.

It was announced that there's a new Star Wars title coming out during the 2019 holiday season. The game sounds exciting, but this is typically where a new Battlefront has been released.

So it looks like we'll have BFII for a little longer than that first one. Hopefully it means more than 4 seasons as well. Thoughts?

  • I no longer use this account or anything Battlefront related as of 08/07/2018.

The way I see it they may make a lot of money come season 3. If they release skins for troopers and clone wars heroes . Meaning the game will start to support it's self. And if season 4 is as well received that could push a season 5 and 6.

  • Yes, and “non-linear objective capturing”. This is beautiful!

I'd like to point out that on the EA page this new mode is going to be on a "larger scale." I'm thinking this means more than 20v20? This mode could be epic!

As long as it’s not like Death Star with the forced air combat, hated that.

Looks like there might be some aerial objectives, but not probably forced. Elliot said something about 'taking down capital ships' in a video at EA Play, so...

And yeah, Respawn's Star Wars game sounds pretty cool too. A Padawan who survived Order 66 and is presumably being hunted? Sounds cool. Hopefully we get some epic fights... Sounds like it might be set around the Rebels time period, so the Inquistor(s) could be involved. Idk, haven't watched Rebels.

If EA/DICE plays their cards, the upcoming seasons could literally be a cash cow for them. The Star Wars brand is one of the biggest in the entertainment business, and them actually not taking advantage of this by providing us with premium skins, is quite baffling. They could make a ton of money by giving us the most sought out skins, and charging money or a ridiculous amount of credits for them, and people would cough that money up due to it being Star Wars.

Respawn's Star Wars game won't be a replacement for Battlefront 2; they are entirely two different games. But if Season 3 is successful, I could definitely see the life span of Battlefront 2 continuing. Dennis did say they were committed to the future of Battlefront and still had hope for it.
  • We should definitely make it known, no forced air combat!

I don't see many more seasons... already June and only half of season 2. Season 3 will be in the fall, so they may run out of time

It has nothing to do with them being similar games. Rather it'd be a saturation issue with it being slated for next November.

My guess would be that they make this battlefront last until the next generation of consoles. Honestly that'd be the best thing for this game. Let it grow some. Continue to improve the gameplay, give the development ample time to build and work out the kinks of the next one, so that when it is ready to come out, it will have tons of hype around it.

Smiles....Dennis has said a lot in the past that turned out to be a lot less in reality.

    I hope so.

Maybe this new star wars game by Respawn can be the successor to the Jedi Knight franchise.

If the whole reveal of the game suggests that... I would be extremely happy. That would be a game I would buy without hesitating!

  • I imagine DICE/EA will want BF2 to “last” until at least shortly after Episode 9 is released in December 2019, so they can capitalize on the movie hype. This probably means 2019 will have at least one season or other new content (not including episode 9 season) to hold people over/keep playing.

And they release a rebels season with Ahsoka included...
    To be continued...

I am not familiar with "forced" space combat as I did not continue SW 2015 past Jakku.
I do think it would be nice if there are some aerial objectives for people who like to fly in the GA mode though.

Taking down a capital ship sounds exciting, like having to land troops in the ship as well as space craft attacking it. That would cover it for both types of people...
