Passions you gave up on

In 8th grade I had discovered a website called Newgrounds where upcoming animators share their created content, flash animations, music, and games.

I created a few of my own (I miss the days of youth where I had unlimited time on my hands). I had learned basic fluidity and became intermediate in actionscript. I can share my animations upon request or when I find time to rip them. But on my page and the bulletins I posted where cringy and just embarassing (like extremely).

This was 9 years ago. But I gave up, but I think just if I never stopped, where would I be? I could be working with a television network by now. Instead I gave up, and I am left to wonder what could have been.

I want to try to do it again, first I have to get a new computer.

  • My real passion was to a railroad engineer for Amtrak. Work for Union Pacific than transfer when I had the skills to do it. Unfortunately I taken one test and over a decade of applying to any railroad who can take me has failed. I give up on my dream job.

At least I have my model railroading and railfanning.

Wanted to fight, like a boxer or something, when I was a kid. (I was always scrapping, it was fun.) Then puberty hit, and I came to the realization that my body's too small, frail, & sickly. (I lose my vision and faint if I exert myself, something which only developed during puberty...)

So then I wanted to be a botanist. (A plant scientist.) Coincidentally and oddly enough in both high schools I went to, science class was always the worst for bullying. (I'm not bothered by things a lot of the time, my caretaker would literally tell me all the time "No sense, No feeling." ...which was a playful way to tease me about how I'm so shtupid I don't have the capacity to feel... but the bullying in school, and specifically in science class, was intrusive enough to be disruptive to my projects and studies...) Ultimately, I ended up dropping out.

I have no other/current ambitions. Don't see much of a point. Just killing time enjoying videogames mostly as a recluse. *Shrug*

Sometimes, I think about getting my education and trying for something that's interesting and relevant to me now, but then I remind myself that having the skills and knowledge isn't going to change the fact that I won't be able to deal with people/people won't be able to deal with me.

Used to collect Star Wars LEGO but the extreme prices and lack of interesting sets have put me off it. An Iden minifigure is all id probably get now.

Would be nice to complete my forum banner.

  • I have been writing since I was 12, started writing my first real book in 2015 when I was 16.
But when I was younger, my passion was always sharks. I have always wanted to get in the water with them. I love them so much, that when others see one they are terrified, but I am tempted to slide into the water with it. It is even my fall-back in college. Right now I am studying to become a writer, but if that doesn't pull through, I will devote all of my potential to becoming a great marine biologist and shark conservationist.
I have always wanted to write a book about sharks though... Maybe someday.

I love sharks too. Always have and always will. We would make a good team.

    @Spiito
We love getting to talk to you. If you love video games, there are so many great things you can do with that. I think that an education is the best thing a person can get. My dad is a living reminder of why you should always complete your education. He has worked a thankless job for 27 years, making TAMKO shingles. He never finished college, and he regrets it every day of his life. If you want to do something with your life, you need an education.
I am sad to say that I was a bully and a complete **** when I was younger. My life changed and I realized that all I ever did was look down on people because of my own anger at myself. I have spent the past 3 years trying to be the man that I should have been. If you could, remember that these bullies are worse than any other person, and that fact that they are bullies means that they have more problems than anyone else. They deserve your pity, not your fear.
I will be praying for you.

@Empire_TW there are some people I follow on Instagram that do custom Lego figures, I bet they could make a Iden Lego for you. The shoulder pad thing and and symbols are also easily possible with them.

Oh my gosh, I found a video I made 9 years ago!!
    https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x9izft
This is so cringey, if vague memory serves correctly I made a version where you actually see the lightsaber. The entire game of SM64 was made into a green screen sans Mario, the background was from Banjo & Kazooie I believe.

    https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x9j2p3
I actually had to get into the SM64 texture files and manually edit them to change the character appearances.

We love you here and are grateful to have you on these forums. You are a super nice person. Do not let anyone bring you down. You are awesome and no one can change that. You can do anything as long as you set your mind to it :)
You're too kind, encouraging words. Thank you. (...)
What about yourself, any tales to share?

I get the impression any kind of career position in the gaming industry would be highly competitive. (Toxicity from the public seems likely too, but that comes with any job these days, to some extent, I think.)
That's unfortunate, sorry to hear about your father's predicament. You're right though. I should put together a schedule and work towards my GED.
Growing up tends to incorporate some amount of rudeness on everyone's part. Even my past has some regrettable actions which were directed towards others. People don't all start off as the nicest, so unsavory behavior is understandable. (Don't feel too badly for your past actions, you're doing good presently.) *Playfully;* No worries, they don't frighten me. :relaxed:

I appreciate the sentiment. Best wishes to you on your quest to become a writer. ...Did you ever hear about Street Sharks? It was an older cartoon. I was just thinking, the newer Voltron these days is a really neat adaptation from the older Cartoon. Storyboards for 'toons might be a good place/compromise to turn for experiential writing(?) if you haven't already... (I hear sharks really enjoy it when you pet their noses, if you get to swim with them sometime, good luck!)

@JAREDUP I'm a bit skeptical about custom stuff, tried looking for some when the game first came out and didn't really find any I liked. I also have a feeling that if I did find one and paid a bit for it LEGO would then proceed to make a set with her in it.

That aside could you give me the names of those who might be willing to make one?

@Empire_TW @tnrcustoms is the name on intsagram. I've seen some other people attempt at lego customs and this one seems to be the best one's I have seen quality wise.

  • Nice thread! Fun to learn more about fellow forum goers. I always wanted to be a US Marshall. Went to school for criminal justice, just lost interest after a few years. Found another calling and been taking that path. Life is strange ;)
