ProTip: Don't Pick Obi-Wan for GA

430 posts Member
So broken... so bad. Can't block, unreliable abilities, abilities that barely harm the enemy and leave him open to damage. No combo potential at all. Who thought that allowing people to just roll through his Rush was a good idea? They get staggered, you see sparks, but no damage thanks to those lovely i-frames. Worst Rush ability in the game, worst Push in the game, worst Mind Trick and the most unreliable block... worst lightsaber hero in the game.

I really don't remind him being that bad before the December uptade, and i already had him maxed out by then.

The only way i see him being of any use is if they make him able to use all of his abilities while running/jumping.

I must say, i really fear for Dooku and hope they can do Christopher Lee some justice.

+ 1 suggestion: Restrictive Mind Trick should disable all abilities, attacking/shooting and blocking, but not dodging. It is one way to make up for the horrendously long animation.

And this is just my opinion, but even as Obi-Wan, i still think lightsaber deflection sucks against any thing other than regular Sentries and the CR-2 (high ROF weapons in general).
What were they thinking?

  • Sound like you jist had a bad obi wan experience. He's pretty good in GA & mauls dash can also be dodged & rey's soooo no he doesn't. As far as blocking well every lightsaber user is like that. Mind trick is garbage in GA I'll give you that I don't use it unless a hero is surrounded by teammates

He's pretty good in Galactic Assault actually (despite his abilities that are easily nullified) though until you get caught up against General Grievous in a 1v1 scenario.

You must avoid him at all costs! He can damage you through block, he can stunlock you, he can damage you multiple times with Claw Rush, he can use Thrust Surge to prevent your escape, etc, etc. Do not fight Grievous, just run like a coward because why not?

Man! Could this game get any more broken?

I feel like this is a good place to ask about obi-wan.

Simply put, I don’t think I can play him... even decently.

The push never works for me. I’m not sure how to use it properly, unlike Luke and Yoda. It seems to have a very limited range, and even then is very weak.

Mind trick is only useful against certain heroes, usually the animation time hurts more than the ability’s benefit. At least it works.

Rush but feels awkward, I frequently miss. Han is hard to aim too but his leans in and it’s easier to see where you will end up (so you can stop early). Obi goes outward can anyone who sees it will dodge.

The lightsaber is good and I like his high jump, but at the end of the day he’s with Finn at the bottom of my choice list. I earnestly believe people only first-pick him in every HvV because they love the character, not how he plays. Although I do have way less experience with him than anyone else.

Can anyone give me pointers? Do others feel this way?

You could say that about just about any hero
  • His only redeeming factor is his high regen, so you can get away with fighting 2-3 scrubs back to back without too much permanent damage, but other than that he's just a trash hero. Only optimal way to play is dodge spam into saber mash, run the extra damage rush card and use it only in close range. Never use Push or mind trick unless grievous is on you and you need to buy yourself time. Still 5/10. It's undeniable at this point.

  • Changes Obi-wan Needs: Mind trick useable on the move or in the air. Charged push needs a regular hit box and the removal of the root mechanic or allow blocking. The ability in the meantime should be renamed to sitting duck.
  • Agree, everytime I and my party encounter him it ends with his death and us laughing.

When I start hearing his speeches I run in that direction for an easy kill (even if I'm a trooper).

Would make for a great a montage of us bullying the poor memelord considering we wreck like 5 of them per game.

  • Another ProTip: Don't pick Obi Wan for HvV. He isn't that effective in that game mode.

You can chose whoever you want, but he REALLY isn't that effective in HvV. Only a little...

  • Mind Trick sometimes feels like a straight trade off. It sometimes feels like I'm in the animation for the same amount of time they don't roll for.

Same here, from a HvV standpoint. I can play every other hero no problem and know exactly what I'm doing at all times. With Obi-Wan I have no clue why I can't kill anything, and die from inexplicable nonsense. His abilities and delayed attacks are just trash, IMO.

That's funny because every time i encounter iden with Kenobi I slaughter her. I'll give you a rundown of encounters I have. Iden uses secondary fire 150 health is lost, iden uses stun while I'm blocking I dash to the side to minimize the damage, i now have at best 530-550 health, close the distance, iden rolls, i mind trick her while she's roll, defensive rush into r2 spam into push & dead. Then hear taking on a jedi is not the wisest decision

Every time I encounter Obi-Wan he dies...

I laugh, @KresusFIN laughs, @Admiral_Xen laughs, and I'm pretty sure the Obi-Wan player dies a little bit on the inside.

  • I partially agree, his Push should work while jumping also. He is quite new hero, it takes time to get him fixed.
  • From my experience he is decent. Average. Not terrible but DEFINITELY not the best

Yes, specifically Xbox users please avoid Obi Wan! More for me  he should be buffed a bit though.

I think he will go A LONG way if we can use mind trick in air. I use Obi frequently i have him in purples with extended mind trick duration as the 3rd card. If you mind trick a Palp or Maul its a good chance you can win the duel. As far as Troopers go imagine being able to jump mind attack and have the trooper try to roll but cant or drop a nade at their feet and cant. That will go a long way.
I dont use his defensive rush cant aim it too easy to avoid.
I use the push when im slightly hidden from troopers and they cant see me (aka above, around a corner, from the back side on campers) or on Grievous like someone said he is so hard to take 1 v 1.

  • Seems pretty good to me
  • Meets the same fate as all lightsaber-addled rejects must.

Slashed, strangled and slaughtered. Beaten, stabbed and crushed. Garroted and impaled. Shot and executed without mercy.

And the rate upon which sabers are sent into the ground will only increase when they finally fix dodging and saberstaggering.
    Heart of darkness beateth, Ultima
    Iron enigma treateth, Ultima
    Shielding light retreateth, Ultima
    Hydaelyn defeated. Ah, Ultima

The fact is that if you're running it's because you suck, and the game shouldn't pander to players who suck.

  • Obi-one is bad, give us obi-two, and obi-three.

I do fairly well with him in GA - in fact, when I play, he is generally one of my go to lightside heroes for GA on most prequel or OT maps. Also think his push is great (when it hits) in HvV, but it has improved from his release.

    Why wouldn't I use him?

Challenges are more fun than running around with a meta kill farming as I pretend I'm a game ruiner doing nothing to help my team win.

All I can say after leveling him up to 40 (and as an average player) is that you have to play him defensively and try to keep dodging and only really on block for parries by starting block way before you would or blasters. Abuse his Rush ability to push through enemies (it blocks sabers) and use cards if you really want to rely on his Push. Either the increased AoE one or the one that reduces charging time (or both). Mind trick is almost useless, unless you use from behind and mainly to defend somebody from strong abilities. And never try to outspam any saber villain.

OK, so just one example of recent gameplay on xbox, repeatedly murdered in HvV by Palps due to his basic lightning going straight through block even with full stamina. If that is the same on PS4 and you still do well with him then fair play to you.
  • I disagree.
Obi-Wan, while quite weak is usable. He is probably much harder to use in PC than in Console given the fact he is slow and so are his abilities. My experiencies is on PC but here are my tips.

    1. At this point, everyone should know there's only one viable setup for GA which is Jedi Resilience+Jedi General+Forward!
    2. He should be played very defensively because his speed is a factor which is the opposite of Rey and Luke.
    3. His strongest suit is his VERY high health regen (400hp) but it does not mean you should engage a high amount of enemies at the same time.
    4. Try to go for stragglers and try to make the most out of his OHK defensive rush (with Forward! card)
    5. Never use his Mind Trick unless you catch certain villains like Bossk or Iden off guard and you are clear to do so.
    6. Don't engage lightsaber villains particularly Grievous.
    7. Some maps/phases suit him a lot better than others. Very closed maps like Death Star II suit him way more than Kashyyyk for example.

Uh, all right so... this went a lot farther than expected.
Allow me to clear a few things up, what i meant was... Obi-Wan is a mediocre Hero, the "don't pick" part is directed towards the fact that the man is a complete glitch fest. Now, don't get me wrong, he has some uses and can be played decently, but it doesn't change the fact that his abilities are too situational and sometimes barely scratch the enemy, all of that while leaving him open to damage. That paired with all the glitches is what makes playing him such a pain.
    What were they thinking?

I tried the loadout with Quickened Focus instead of Jedi Resilience but changed it back almost immediately simply due to the fact that the ability would glitch at least 7 out of 10 times, this is the type of stuff i'm talking about. And even with the card... way too situational, you can't get the full potential of his kit like this.
