Give Us The Option To Toggle Ion Shot On Blasters

Title says it all. If we have to contend with bubble melee players and turret spam, and against vehicle, yet still deal with troopers and Enforcers, give us the option to turn ion shot off of our weapon. Weapons with dual zoom have this ability, why not extend that to ion shot?

  • This is an interesting idea but I’m not sure it’s necessary. The damage you gain from ion shot to shields and vehicles is much greater than the damage you lose on troopers. It’s not a 1/1 ratio. While I can’t tell you the actual numbers, I can say that for the CR-2 the damage lost is negligible and damage gained against shields is huge.
  • Very interesting idea. Last night, there was 3 guys playing as scouts, running around using their shields and killing people far too easy with melee. Sure would've been nice to have ion available on demand to take the shields down faster.
On the topic of shields, you shouldn't be able to do any damage with it on. How can you punch through your own shield? If they keep it like it is, they should reduce melee damage.
As for the on demand ion, it would help against vehicles and damage to walkers in WA, but I could see it being OP if you have a team that works together and just burst down vehicles and walkers too fast.
  • I like it. Maybe have it take a second or two to toggle, with an animation? Makes it a bit of a pain so that people aren't just off and on back and forth all the time.

Yes, the animation would make it balanced and prevent it from being spammed. I'd be more than OK with that.

Yup, noticed the bubble scouts are back. CR makes short work of them., Will say one thing I noticed I've been one hitted with the mele at full health as assult and heavy and died..... Not impressed with that.

    It's a bug, not a balance issue.

For some reason, melee can register itself two or three times for one animation.

Man! Could this game get any more broken?

I never use ion shot because I don’t want my shot to be less effective against troopers and also switching in respawn is inconvenient. So this would be an interesting idea. Would be great to add the ion shot when you see the vehicle and then be able to take it off as needed without respawn

Isn't that also a possibility when specifically built as a bubble baby?

It's not limited to the Specialist - every trooper has this glitch where their melee strikes register 2 or 3 times in one loop.

  • ...seems like a slippery slope to me.

I thought that Ion mods also affected your headshot multiplier. I read it somewhere and it should test it, but if true it's an important detail to take into account if you have good aim.

As long as the toggle animation is cool, this game needs some more eyecandy. Have the troopers do something slick.
Add weapons or bad things are going to happen

Nope, you can be one punched by any of the classes. I think hero melee is also bugged.

    That Specialist rework was disappointing.

If you can find that again please post it.
  • It only effects headshots so with some of your aiming it's no big deal

Shields only work against projectiles not physically blocking something from passing through, episode 1 for example

I've killed far more people with specialist melee than I have shooting. I just run around the map punching people. It's easy to defend against it, just use the Cobra Kai solution (strike first).

Nope. Physical objects bounce off too, grenades for example.

A lame, cheap, lazy, talentless tactic. Easy to defend against, but ends up creating an imbalance without the appropriate cost in effort cost for that imbalance. And it forces many or most of a team to shift their time and energy from fighting the enemy and playing the objective to swatting an annoying gnat who couldn't be bothered to actually play the game.

They need to remove the bubble and replace it with the Flash Pistol.

"oh, just use ion weapons so you can have less damage against my still-just-as-powerful-melee" is probably the go-to respond for those kinds of tools
