Losing interest in games, looking for camraderie

Hey all,

I have hundreds of games on steam, a handful on origin, ~100 or so on ps4 and dozens of wii u titles. Yes yes first world problems etc etc I know.

I can't bring myself to start any of them up. It's not like something has filled the void that games used to occupy, I'm just not all that interested. 9 of my ps4 games haven't even left the cellophane. The wii u controller is relegated to being a shoddy internet browsing tablet for when all other browing options are inconvenient. Which is never. Im more into buying the games on Steam than I am in playing them. Just like the ps4, a majority of these steam games are untouched. Theres an install date of mid last year... times played is zero

I still occasionally start red alert 3 or AOE3 , maybe even starcraft 2. But I get a little into a game and boredom ensues. One game. Sometimes only half of one.

I am a 30 y/o male, single(maybe fixing that will help yea?:) ), apartment. I add this info in case it helps you relate.

Anyone feeling some odd video game crash where your interest in them has virtually dropped off a cliff?

I can identify with this. I buy games on Steam when they go steeply on sale and rarely get around to playing them.

Gaming fatigue comes and goes for me. As I've gotten older (42 now), free time can be scarce, and sometimes I'd just like to spend that time doing something more productive.

Thanks for the post Hooboy. The Steam thing is weird isn't it? I always have these delusions of grandeur like I'll end up playing the game I've downloaded but it never happens.

I do find myself using the time more productively, I shut down the PC and go vacuum and wash the car etc etc. So that's a good thing :). I don't know why my interest has dropped so suddenly I mean it's on GROUND ZERO in terms of interest, man.

I also never saw it coming which is why I'm so shocked or maybe even sad by my own behavior and lack of interest. Ive always loved games and now I don't know what to do!

Again yes first world problems and there are probably tons of solutions to my 'issue' but I'm happy that someone relates.

    Wish you the best,
    Moist

You know... I didn't play any of the games you suggested but when I got home I fired up my old copy of Duke 3d and I did crack a smile and had some fun. Maybe the classics are all that interest me now.
  • I've been there. I'm in my 40s, been gaming since the arcade and Atari 2600, started online gaming in the 90s. When I get that feeling I just give in and take a break. I have a main interest of music so I spend that extra time with that. Do you have a hobby or compulsory interest? If not, it's never too late to start.
  • I can totally relate to what you're talking about. I'm in my 30s, and gaming fatigue comes and goes. What I've found is that I obssess about one thing for about 1-3 months, and then I won't touch it for a long time. Sometimes the obssession is individual games or a theme or genre. Recently I went through a vikings phase, and before that a star wars phase ;)

And sometimes I just can't be **** to play anything I own. I do what you described and just load a game, spend a few minutes on it, and then shut it down. Then go stare at my DVD collection for an hour deciding which movie to re-watch haha

The games I played, for the most part, took me away from reality.

Just brew some java, get some food, and play some Ape Escape or Mega Man Legends. Duke Nukem Time to Kill is a great game too.

It's all about enjoying yourself. Have a few people over and break into some Mario Party.

I always have a game for every situation. I think it's about reigniting that feeling you got when you played your first game. Like I specifically remember playing Ape Escape all night and then Rogue Trip the next day with my friends. We had a sleep over and beat that game around 2am. So wicked.

Even have my Gameboy SP for power outages.

It may be that we all need a balance of social interaction and surreal experiences to balance life in general.
  • I`m also in this "situation". I buy a new game and very quickly realise it ain`t for me. I given up PC gaming totally, Steam is fullpacked with less then an hour played games. I`m now a PS4 only gamer. but also here I buy stuff but never really get into them. Well, except BF4 and this Battlefront thing - Battlefront I still play on a daily basis: in the morning before the family "awakens" and then later when they are off to bed.

I sometimes fire up the PS3 and gets beaten to death buy my son in Tekken Tag or I`m just cruising around in GRID. But mostly I`ll just play a couple of maps of Classic Doom on the PS3. Not more than an hour

Yes, I`ve felt some odd video game crash where my interest in them has virtually dropped off a cliff?
