What is the point of Stage 1 Space Battle?

Literally, it is a waste of time. I really don't see how fun it is. Get U-Wings to the shield? Thats it?

I could understand that if the Rebels lose then we move on to an alternative stage, but it doesn't happen. Literally everyone wants the U-Wing to pass the shield so that we can all move on to the next stage. It really is no fun. So what is the point?

Replies

  • I'm assuming that the troops that we play in phase 1 & 2 are inside the U-Wing that goes through the shield.

The longer it takes them, the less time they have in the next phases. The point of it is for either the Empire or Rebels to try and gain a time advantage in the next phases.
  • i think i speak for the majority when i say phase 1 is a drag.
  • Just grab a refresh token and spam the boost straight into the shield

I don't even bother stopping the darn thing as Imperials

Cause the Rebels that are divided into the two teams on Scarif, the ones in the Distraction Stage and the other ones that are in the Extraction Stage are the individuals that are on board of the U-Wings that have to make it through the shield gate in the Approach Stage.
  • The point is to boring you.
  • It would be better without it. It can be a time to take a break/ use the bathroom- then come back.
  • It's in the movie so that's why they included it in the game.

From what I've seen in the trailers it looks like the Rebels are assaulting the gate in order to clear a path for the U-Wings. Maybe that should've been the main focus of the first phase instead of playing escort.
  • To wreck those of you who are bad at flying.

    (XBox One)
  • To get kills with U wings. Immerse yourself and blast the charging imps before you with incredible fire power while flying around back and forth.

Take it there are no FS guys here, so you'll probably not wan to hear this.....
For me it breaks the match up into varied segments/modes which, as we all know, 'variety' is the spice of life. I like how it changes things up, but I do enjoy the Death Star mode.

This is coming from someone who didn't touch (skip) fighter squadron before DS - even now I have a go @ Bespin FS (not the clown car though).

Other modes are same throughout - no change. Battlestation and Scariff are multi mode matches which tests your 'skills' and I for one have gotten better at FS from this.

.....but then again that's my opinion, I respect yours also

Yes @PrepJnr - I am your father, NOW DO YOUR HOMEWORK!!!
  • Needs tweaking - you can win as rebels in super fast time .With 4 decent pilots Imperials can stop rebels as so many people are terrible at flying despite the huge advantages handed to rebels side. If you added 3 random Tie Interceptors and stopped the easy rebels route it would balance up better.ans so have more impact on time for rest of game phases.
  • Before launch people were calling Dice a joke for having no space battles, now we've had space battles in the last 2 dlcs people are still complaining.
  • Buff the u wing it's a**

Why should they buff it if it reaches the Shield Gate every time?
Battlefront II has a 45.8% chance of success.

We'll they should fix where you can be out of reach from the tie fighters and then buff it because the shield is useless because it's only tie fighters and the jammer is also trash since it's only active for a couple of seconds. The speed boost is fine

The jammer's cooldown is extremely long compared to how short is the activation time, that's for sure.

  • If they continue with the multi stage game modes, then they should include alternate stages. Like for Infiltration (I always knew they'd name a mode this) if the Rebels fail then the Uwings are captured and sent to a prison map. Then they have to break out or something like that.

  • This is the same complaint that was made when Death Star was released. People complained that the Imperials didn't have any incentive to stop the Rebels in phase 1 because they'd want to get to play the next phase.

I've never been a FS fan, and have only played one or two matches of vanilla FS, but both the DS and RO DLCs have helped me enjoy it more when taken as a part of a larger mission.

What they SHOULD OF DONE is have phases 2 and 3 and turn that into phase 1 and 2, so the first two phases are ground phases. Then for phase 3 it would be stopp the U wings from escaping in FS

  • FS is the devil. Despise it. So, I just fly around and look at the pretty rubble floating by until the ground phase begins.

I don't think anyone is complaining about having space battles in and of itself. The issue is the combination of FS and infantry in the same game mode. Nice concept, but just really doesn't play out all that well.
I find your lack of Guinness disturbing

How many times must we explain, These aren't space battles. This is Fighter Squadron with a space background and some debris. Space battles, as we all should know, means manning turrets, flying into enemy Mother ships, Capitol Ship battles, gathering your buddies in a transport to try and invade the enemy ship, blowing it up from the inside, etc. And now with the Uwing that could of been a possibility.

Exactly. I barely played the Death Star dlc because 2/3 of Battle Station is aerial combat, which I can't stand in this game. They completely missed capturing the aspects that made space battles in the old Battlefronts fun. A pity, because this game had a lot of potential to expand on things like those.
  • ....and here we are again back to the old it's not original Batllefront .Move on for **** sake! It's a battle in space by any reasoning.
  • There's an inherent flaw with the way DICE has constructed multi-tiered modes: they only build 'one way' - ie: if the Rebels don't win the first and second stages then the game is over instead of branching off into different ways. It's not very fun, and semi-pointless, when game modes are designed so that certain parts of the level are extremely one sided.

100% agree with your sentiment, @Alvonator.
  • Dice needs to make you feel like the game has some variety, when it really doesn't.

There's a reason why people complain about the flight combat: it's terribly executed. I love games like Ace Combat and such but this is just barebones and you fly like a Cadillac handles corners.
