Why are lightsaber blade tips flat and not pointy in the EA Battlefronts?

It's really bothering me and doesn't look right to my eyes...

Really? It looks really odd to me-its not necessarily the thickness but how it comes to a flat edge stop.

  • They were quite thick in AOTC and ROTS weren't they?

I agree it does look odd, but looks nice at the same time

  • Well in the movies where the actual saber part is it's actually a special metal rod that the special effects get applied onto post production. Digital lightsabers on the other hand are modelled rather then edited in. This would explain why movie Maul and video game Maul's lightsabers look a bit different, it's just the modelers own take on the blades and how they should look. I personally think the blades look fine.

  • Do they have to be sharp? It will still burn through you with relative ease.

It is sure better than the tooth-pick light sabers in Star Wars: Rebels.

Haha lots of Rebels needs to be forgotten. Especially mini Death Star b wing laser.
  • If you look closely, on both the game and movie shots, they both have "flat ends/tips". The reason the lightsaber in the movie shot looks pointy is because the blade tapers giving it that triangular effect, whereas in the game the blade is the same width from the base all the way through the end tip. I like the tapered look a bit more but either way is fine.

I think they look cool, less bulky and heavy looking. I hope they won't be all heavy feeling when you play. I hope it's similar to the older Jedi Knight games, those were cool.

Yeah the fighting should be more free and less generic like in there.

Rebels definitely tried going for that oldschool SW lightsaber look, so it makes sense why they look like "tooth picks". I'd say the blades looked best in Ep 1, not too thin but not too thick either.

  • Yes, too fat sabers in the game. A little thinner and little more pointy is best, but the thickness bothers me more!
    My priority list:

    1. Fix Split screen mode bugs
    2. Fix bugs
    3. Bigger play area for Duel mode
    4. More love for Starfighter modes
    5. First Person only mode
  • That’s what she said

Lightsabers would not behave the way a traditional sword did in terms of weight, balance, or cutting potential as it is just a thermal beam of energy... its shape would be dictated by the shape of the beam projector and would likely be symmetrical. In the case of the original trilogy, they used actual blades to reflect the light and then added some animation to it... that is much different from now where they just motion capture and then animate the whole thing. I imagine if the tech had existed at the time, the OT lightsabers would have looked more like the modern movie versions than vice versa.

Also, if the lightsaber is indeed a beam of thermal energy, the balance point would presumably be basically on the hilt, making most of the swordplay in the modern movies completely nonsensical and impractical.
