It looked like it from the livestream.
  • When you chose a class you were advised to stay close to some other players ie a virtual squad?
  • It seems they assign you to a squad based on when and who respawns with you. It seems there is no squad spawn mechanic at all.

Hmm, I think that's why it takes forever to spawn in because they're attempting to group you up with others who died at the same time or after you did so that you guys can spawn in and squad up together. I think that they should just put in actual squads like Battlefield and call it a day.

  • We need 5 squads of 4

Agreed. Why they don't just do it is beyond me...

"Each of these new classes, vehicles, reinforcements, and heroes fulfills a specific purpose on the team. Each time they spawn, players will deploy together into a new four-player spawn wave, with visibility in the respawn lobby allowing them to coordinate their choices. See two of your teammates loading up as Officers? Maybe you'll want to choose Specialist instead to create a more cohesive unit. Once they've spawned into battle, these temporary squads will do better when they stick together."

I'll have to see how these temporary squads are during the Beta but it sounds weird to me right now. Why not just have a set squad?

I wasn't a fan of having a random partner all match. Atleast it sounds like new people everytime you re-spawn.

i can actually see some advantages to temporary squads.

it **** me off in battlefield when i get stuck joining a squad that's 4 snipers who aren't doing anything, not even sniping well.

you could say "just join a different squad" but there's not always one with an open spot and you can start your own and hope other people join that but you never know.

I think if you're just online playing solo I don't think it'll really make a difference if you're in a squad with the same people the whole time or it's just temporary. but it probably will take a long time to spawn in if you die and then you have to wait for 3 more people to die before you can even start to respawn.

plus it sounds like there might actually be multi-person vehicles now and it might help for that. (or it might make it worse if no one wants to be your gunner and then you're just stuck without one)

I just hope if you're playing in a party with your friends there's a way to make sure you stay in a squad with your friends.

I do applaud them for doing something different that isn't just a watered-down version of something another game has. Partners was literally just Battlefield's Squads cut in half and allowed to share one set of star cards.

Maybe they'll tweak the system over time. Perhaps allowing members of the same party to always spawn together unless only one member dies, then they get put with random people. OR if at least half of the squad is still alive, you automatically get spawned in their vicinity. That would be cool.

Pretty interested about the temporary squads, I think they have a good idea. Like you're coming in as reinforcements aka a new troop so obviously you wouldn't have the last squad that you just died in. Innovative and thought out in my opinion.

I have to agree. I think we should give it a fair shot. It may end up leading to really fluid, fun, and not annoying gameplay that we might not have gotten if they just gave us Battlefield squads.

Yea I'm not bagging on the idea, its just different. Its better than being stuck with the same trooper all match shooting the ground.

As for BF1 squads where they are all sniping, I will run around to them popping smoke grenades in front of them if I get stuck on a squad doing that.

  • Played Theed for a round at EAPLAY yesterday, and the 4 member squad respawn was definitely slow. Gives you time to tweak your class selection and loadout which is a cool change, but it was about 10 seconds to get back into the game with the other 3 squad members.

Since I am impatient, I found it aggravating.

Wonder if they should give the option to skip "Wait on squad"?

They did say that there will be party squads, but since they are still working on it and EA Play is mostly just random people playing together, they didn't feel they needed to put it in this build.

Yes, to an extent, but it's still being worked on. Dennis shed a little more light on this in BFUpdates' livestream and said that what we saw in the pre-alpha build was a very early version where every time you re-entered the battle you'd be put into a random squad of 3 more players and would gain a boost if you stick close together, and you join a different squad every time you re-enter. He also said this was still in the very early development stage and may not stay this way in the final build but may end up being something more like a party system where you can invite friends and be in a permanent squad for the whole match.
Personally, I hope they make it the party system and not the one we saw here because I felt it just made the respawn time way too long since there was a 10 second timer to squad-up and that was after players had already spent 10 seconds watching their black and white "death scene" and then choosing what class they would use. I don't want to have to wait 20 seconds to re-enter battle, I want to get back in as soon as possible.

Just curious, where did you hear that we may have multi-passenger vehicles? This is something I have been wanting greatly since it would be fun to cooperate with players in vehicles.

Yep I fully agree, a permanent sqaud is clearly more beneficial then the temporary one by far.

Also means I don't have to be forced into a squad of strangers who'll still just run off and do their own thing.

You still spawn after 10 seconds, whether you have a full squad or not, but if your squad becomes full, then the countdown ends right as the final person joins the squad no matter if the time was at 10 seconds or 1 second, and puts you in the match,

I hope we do, I honestly think they should just use Battlefield's system, NO ONE would care if the squad system is the same in both games, just let me spawn on my brother and let us stay close together blasting separatists scum! I think the complete scrambling of every individual soldier hinders gameplay experience. The system they have now already seems short sighted

It was mentioned in an interview with Paul Keslin (On AngryJoe's channel) where Angry Joe asked him about this new system and started asking why they don't just implement the system from Battlefield. Keslin responded by saying that they wanted to make "Battlefront and Battlefield both their own unique franchises" or something along those lines. Sure we might see some stuff inspired by Battlefield but not an exact copy of it brought over in this game.

The squad system in Battlefield is hit or miss.

About half the time I spawn into gunfire or surrounded by grenades.

Then more often then not I spawn in on 3 squad embers and they all run different ways.

At least with this new system there is no where to go but forward.

I agree with angry joe, this random squad every time I die feels so wrong. I feel like I would like a permanent squad...I thought I had more to say but I guess not
