Space Class Discussion/Speculation

This thread will be for space classes (vehicles) discussion or speculation. We know that the space units will be ship classes, unlike the previous game, and that they will be customizable. I'd imagine that customization comes into play with both star cards and possibly cosmetic appearances, such as patterns or colors implemented on our fighters. But, I'll list below the ships that I think would make sense to have in each class, as well as the classes I think would most likely appear in the game.

Starfighter
I couldn't think of a better name for this than just calling it what it is: a basic starfighter. These will be the assault class of space, really, what I'd imagine to be the default vehicles from the films. My thoughts on their team-specific appearances are as follows:

Republic: ARC-170
Separatists: Vulture Droid
Rebels & Resistance: X-Wing
Empire & FO: TIE Fighter

Bomber
These would be a bit focused on damaging capital ships than dogfighting, with a stronger focus on heavy weaponry (bombs, of course!). I'd also like to see bombers possibly be two-seated vehicles, as many on the below list are two-seaters.

Republic: V-Wing or Y-Wing (the latter was seen in TCW, whereas the former was what was present in Pandemic's BF2)
Separatists: Hyena Bomber
Rebels: Y-Wing
Empire: TIE Bomber
Resistance: Resistance Bomber (to-be-seen in TLJ)
FO: Possibly the two-seater TIE from TFA?

Interceptor
Interceptors are the quick, hit-and-run starfighters of the navies of the galaxy, albeit with less armor. The extra speed boosts given to the interceptors make up for the armor lost, however.

Republic: Instead of a Jedi Starfighter (which, frankly didn't make much sense as a clone fighter in the original BF2) we could possibly see the Z-95 Headhunter used in season 4 and onwards of TCW, or, if it isn't the bomber, the V-wing.
Separatists: MagnaGuard starfighter
Rebels & Resistance: A-Wing
Empire: TIE Interceptor
FO: TIE Silencer?

For a fourth class I was thinking of a possible "special fighter" class, but I don't really know what'd fit. Maybe V-19s for the Republic, B-wings for the Rebels, and TIE Defenders for the Empire, but that's all I've got.

I'd also like to see a transport type ship, which could be the only ship that players can get in and out of on their own. For example, you can select a "transport" tab in the spawning screen and then select a ground class, and one player is randomly selected as the pilot of the transport. You must then get onboard the enemy's capital ship and then commence in a Pandemic BF2-style skirmish onboard your ships. Then, if there is an enemy currently on your ship, you can spawn in as a normal ground trooper and then jump into a normal ship once their dead. It's an idea in progress, though.

Transport
Republic: Republic Gunship
Separatists: Droid Gunship
Rebels: Maybe a ship that is in appearance to the Phantom from Rebels?
Empire: Lamba Shuttle
Resistance: Resistance Troop Transport
FO: The transport seen in the beginning of TFA

These are just my thoughts though. Let me know how you'd like to see the starfighters work (and what you'd like them to be) below!
In my book, experience outranks everything.

  • I'm not sure if Transports will make it to the game if we won't be landing Starfighters.

Yeah, that's what I was afraid of. Maybe there'll be a gamemode where there'll be multiple battles going on at once, where players who prefer space can escort transports to a Star Destroyer or something and those who prefer ground battles can fight inside the Destroyer. Similar to Battle Station, but the space and ground stages are going on simultaneously.

That'd make sense. Probably the fighter and interceptor classes will be the main ones and bombers will be specials. Maybe players can select what ship they want (for example, if you'd want B-wings to be one of your classes, you can choose that as your set fighter).

A potential Battlefront 3 by EA will be off by a long shot, there's not much more stuff to put in BF3. Maybe Ground to Space and 64 players, but I don't think that's enough for an entirely new game.

Yep. I just wonder how they'll implement gunships and other transports in this game. I don't see them really being reinforcements in battles, because not many would rather fly in dogfights as a Republic gunship than in an ARC-170 fighter.

Yeah, I just really want it. The only thing that makes me not want to (and helps me understand DICE's caution in doing so) is the chaos we'd have with people landing ships in the middle of a firefight and stuff. Not to mention the camping there'd be in hangars or other fighter spawn locations. It'd be like token camping all over again.

Empire: TIE Fighter, TIE Bomber, TIE Interceptor, TIE Defender

Republic: ARC Fighter, Y-wing (Clone Wars version), V-wing, V-19 Torrent

CIS: Vulture Droid, Hyena-class Bomber, Tri-Fighter, Rogue-class Starfighter

Won't comment on Resistance or First Order since we need to see more of what's around during that era.
    Resistance: T-70 X-Wings
    First Order: (new) Tie Fighters
    Potential hero ships:

    Seps: Grevious's Souless One
    Clones: Obi-Wan's Eta-2
    Empire: Vader's Tie Advanced & Slave I
    Rebels: Millenium Falcon
    Rebels 2: Poe's T-70 X-Wing
    FO: Kylo Ren's Tie Silencer

So one per Era and I guess they'd have to take out either the Tie Advanced, Slave 1 or Souless One (replace with Slave 1). This is assuming they aren't cross era.
I would like to see the tie striker but I don't know how it would be added.
    Troop transports:

    Republic: LAAT
    CIS: Ship from Pandemic
    Rebel: U-wing
    Empire: Tie Lander
    Resistance: HMP Gunship
    First Order: AAL

would be really cool and id guess they will be added similar to the U-Wing in the first game.
  • @DarthTindalus I see the V wing being more of an interceptor the way it was played during E3 assault on theed, and the droid trifighter as the CIS intercepter rather than the magna guard starfighter.
  • This is what I hope/think will be the lineup:

    kKhEHYe.png

The only ones I'm dubious about is the LAAT Gunships and HMP Droid Gunships. Just because they would handle so differently from all other vehicles.
And alternative to them could be the V-19 Torrent and the Rogue-class starfighter (Magnaguard fighter)

Obi-wan's Jedi Starfighter was seen in a Concept art on Kamino alongside Jango's Slave 1. While this isn't solid confirmation that he'll be in the game (because often things don't make it to the final cut from their concept stage), the fact that they showed the concept art strongly indicates that at least Obi-wan's Jedi Starfighter will be in the game. Whereas Anakin's starfighter, while I do think might make more sense thematically, has not been seen yet.

Yeah, that is a good point. Maybe that could be the interceptor then, and the Republic Y-wing could be the bomber. Or the ARC-170 could act as a bomber in space battles and the Headhunters are the normal fighters.

Yeah, transports would be a bit harder because they aren't as agile as some of the other special fighters. Maybe they can be gamemode-unique.

TLJ will be featuring a Resistance bomber (seen in the trailer with the A-wings in the space battle), and the troop transport Leia arrives in on Takodana could be the special. For the First Order, we could see the SpecForces TIE fighters being the interceptors. I'm sure they'll also have some sort of FO bombers in the film.

I'm thinking it will be more of a 4 class system so the special definitely wouldn't be a transport.

Forgot about the resistance A-wing good call

Doubt we will be seeing more than 1 hero vehicle per faction.

The only ones I'm dubious about is the LAAT Gunships and HMP Droid Gunships. Just because they would handle so differently from all other vehicles.
And alternative to them could be the V-19 Torrent and the Rogue-class starfighter (Magnaguard fighter)
    latest?cb=20090311160752
    latest?cb=20150722010339
I'm thinking it will be more of a 4 class system so the special definitely wouldn't be a transport.

Forgot about the resistance A-wing good call

Doubt we will be seeing more than 1 hero vehicle per faction.

even tho they already confirmed luke's red 5 , the milennium falcon , slave 1 and tie advanced ???

Ye , other factions may get 1 per side , but the GCW will 100% get more than 1 hero ship per faction

Slave 1 could be clone wars and falcon could be ST

i dont remember where the Tie advanced was confirmed .

But either way , if the slave 1 was PT , that would make 2 separatist ships (scimitar and slave 1) and if the falcon was ST , that'd make 2 resistance hero ships(black one and falcon) .

An era will have more than 1 hero ship per faction , thats a given . and the most logical would be the OT to have more

I think YouKnowWhoIAm is right. They've already said that the OT will have more content, so I'd guess they'd pull all four hero ships from the old game into this one.

For space vehicles, since they mentioned featuring a class-style system (similar to infantry) this is what I'm hoping for.

(These are ordered by Fighter, Bomber, "Nimble", and "Specialist" class identities.)

    Rebel: X-wing, Y-wing, A-wing, B-wing

Empire: TIE Fighter, TIE Bomber, TIE Interceptor, TIE Defender

Republic: ARC Fighter, Y-wing (Clone Wars version), V-wing, V-19 Torrent

CIS: Vulture Droid, Hyena-class Bomber, Tri-Fighter, Rogue-class Starfighter

Won't comment on Resistance or First Order since we need to see more of what's around during that era.
    Resistance: T-70 X-Wings
    First Order: (new) Tie Fighters
    Potential hero ships:

    Seps: Grevious's Souless One
    Clones: Obi-Wan's Eta-2
    Empire: Vader's Tie Advanced & Slave I
    Rebels: Millenium Falcon
    Rebels 2: Poe's T-70 X-Wing
    FO: Kylo Ren's Tie Silencer

So one per Era and I guess they'd have to take out either the Tie Advanced, Slave 1 or Souless One (replace with Slave 1). This is assuming they aren't cross era.
I would like to see the tie striker but I don't know how it would be added.
    Troop transports:

    Republic: LAAT
    CIS: Ship from Pandemic
    Rebel: U-wing
    Empire: Tie Lander
    Resistance: HMP Gunship
    First Order: AAL

would be really cool and id guess they will be added similar to the U-Wing in the first game.

I'd like to see Anakin be in the game in his starfighter if he isn't added as a normal hero. If he is, then I'd be open to having Obi-Wan being in the game as a space hero then. I just hope Anakin's in it in some format. The TIE Strikers could also double as unique reinforcements for the Empire on certain planets, like how the Naboo starfighters were for the Republic.
At first I had Anakin but figured Obi-Wan would be exactly the same but then there wouldn't be 2 Anakin's (with the tie advanced).

I hope they don't have cross era space stuff. If they don't, then they could easily have both Anakin and Obi-Wan in space battles, all they'd have to do is reskin one to make the other pretty much and get the voice lines.

Hopefully they're playable, since they weren't in the last game, as well as TIE Defenders, TIE Bombers, and Y-wings.

I want the TIE Striker to be playable as well just not in space. They were intended to be atmospheric fighters but could function in space.

Yeah, I want them to be in modes that are atmospheric, like Galactic Assault.

I'd guess the prequel hero ship would be either Obi-Wan or Anakin's starfighter. I'd prefer Anakin, since it's more likely Obi-Wan himself will be in the game at launch. I believe the confirmed OT ships are the Millennium Falcon and Vader's TIE Advanced, although I wouldn't be too surprised if they carried over Red Five and Slave I from the first game. And the sequels will have, I'm guessing, Poe's Black One and...what First Order ship? I know Kylo's TIE Silencer is coming, but that'll be a pre-order bonus. Maybe his transport?
All i have to say its going to be badas for Space Battles you can fly in the ships **** yeah

Wait, you can go into the capital ships? Sweet!

It is confirmed that You can fly in them! But not that you can takeoff/land or get out.

Oh well. At least the space battles have been improved. Maybe we'll get linear space/ground battles anyways.
