Changes to Progression, Crates & Star Cards

We went into Star Wars™ Battlefront™ II with a goal to make the deepest, biggest Star Wars™ game you've ever played. That meant transporting you to all three eras and handing you a huge assortment of heroes, classes, and vehicles – as well as bringing tons of free post-launch content to all Star Wars Battlefront II players.

The Beta gave us a welcome chance to test all of our systems in action and tune things up for better balance. A few weeks back, we mentioned we were going to take another look at how the progression system works. After incorporating feedback from the Beta, we’re happy to share our plans for launch:
  • Epic Star Cards, the highest tier of Star Cards available at launch, have been removed from Crates. To help keep everyone on a level playing field, these Star Cards will primarily be available through crafting, with the exception of special Epic Star Cards available through pre-order, deluxe, and starter packs.
  • You'll need to reach a certain rank to craft upgraded Star Cards. You won't be able to buy a bunch of Crates, grind everything up into crafting materials, and immediately use them to get super powerful Star Cards. You can only upgrade the ability to craft higher tier Star Cards by ranking up through playing the game.
  • Weapons are locked behind specific milestones. While a select few will be found in Crates, the rest can only be attained by play. Want to unlock a new weapon for your Heavy? Play as a Heavy and you’ll gain access to the class’s new weapons.
  • Class-specific gear and items can be unlocked by playing as them. As you progress through your favorite class, you’ll hit milestones granting you class-specific Crates. These will include a mix of Star Cards and Crafting Parts to benefit your class’s development.

This system, as well as all of the others, will be continually iterated on and improved. As we first announced at EA Play in June, we’re committed to keeping the community together. All upcoming weapons, maps, heroes, and vehicles introduced in Star Wars Battlefront II’s post-release content will be free so that players can play alongside friends as the world of Star Wars Battlefront II continues to grow. We know that the magic is in the balance, and we're going to make sure that we continue to make a game that is fun for everyone.

Great success. Just under 2 weeks to go. Woop woop.
  • thanks EA for listening, that all sounds great!

The only concern I have is just a bug I experienced in the beta.

Whenever I bought am alliance/starfighter or trooper crate, They wouldn't always give me what the crate entailed. For instance id buy a star fighter crate, i sometimes wouldn't get a single star fighter card. It would be like an emote for a hero, a trooper card, and maybe some crafting parts.

I assumed maybe it was a beta bug, or maybe i had a lot of cards already so the game just gave me different ones.

Im sure its all smoothed out, but just in case it was never brought up.

    Happy Halloween!
  • "Huge assortment of heroes."

Only prequel heroes I've seen in the confirmed list is Yoda and Darth Maul. Where are the main characters like Obiwan and Anakin?

    DLC
  • Great News, really fantastic to know EA is listening to the Gaming Community, along with Balance goes Anti Cheat..so I like many others hope that EA is not going to the Dark Side, but restore the Peace in the Galaxy.

Less than 10 days to Pre Load :)
  • I like what I'm seeing here.

Sorry that everyone hates the prequels. We have 14 heros which is a ton for the quality they are and we get even more post launch.
  • haters still gonna say P2W

Erm... please explain the bolded and italicized part? Are you saying that the pre-order and deluxe edition star cards will not be obtainable in any other way? And what are these "starter packs"?

check the origin pre-order page and they tell you what each stater pack holds.

They don't be able to change the bolded part because it's been marketed that way for awhile.

Just buy the deluxe edition like a true fan.

You can still get those cards from what I understand, the new rules for epics don't apply to those preorder bonuses. So you won't be locked out of using your bonus cards. The phrasing is a little weird so it seems easy to get mixed up.

Hope all upcoming content will be put in custom arcade. It is free. ;)
  • One question really wasn't answered and well if it was I blame my lack of coffee so far this AM. Do you still level you character classes through star cards? If so why? That is unquestionably the stupidest mechanic I have seen in my 40 years of gaming. I get that you want to sell crates to monetize the game. but try making the crates worth paying for and not basically a requirement.
Its great that you have evaluated what drops in crates and weapons being obtained from class level. It just seems that if keeping the progression tied to crates you are saying a whole lot of stuff to say nothing more than yep its gonna be a grind unless you buy our crates however.
If crate progression is what the alternative is then give me a premium package with progression based on, you know, actually playing the f'ing class.
  • They mentioned right after the beta that it was being changed to xp earned from playing the game.
  • Its not changed at least not in the trial, its still based of the cards with a common being worth 1 level in that class and the better ones being worth more so for example if I have 10 common cards for officer hes a level 10 officer but if I have 3 rares and 1 common I also have a level 10 officer.
