is it worth buying now?

i still have this game pre ordered but after seeing how much everyone is hating it is it worth buying now? will there actually be anyone to play with?

Replies

  • Yes it is.
  • Yes it is.

    No it's not
  • Maybe.

Do you like Star Wars? How much did you play the 1st?

If you know you'll play even at least 60 hours it'd be worth it in my eyes. That's 1 dollar per hour of enjoyment. TLJ is about to come out. I take it you'll pay 10 bucks for 2 and a half hours of enjoyment. Technically this game has better value than the movie if you invest time into it and get enjoyment out of it.

Don't let anyone tell you to buy it or not buy it, decide for yourself. But do realize gaming is a great hobby to get bang for your buck when you really stop and crunch the numbers.

Sure this game has things to complain about, but it also has beautiful looking Star Wars based experiences. You are the consumer and you get to choose what to consume
  • yes its really good.

The game is incredible. It makes Battlefront 2015 feel like a 2d mario game by comparison. It's that good.
Opinions are like anything else...but that's mine.

    Cheers,

They all are just jumping on the bandwagon. I was really nervous about this game and wasn't sure if I would buy it but I did the 10 hour trial and LOVED it.

Best to judge things for yourself, I don't regret my purchase of the deluxe edition.
  • It's honestly not nearly as catastrophic as people are making it out to be. You earn a decent amount of credits from playing and completing challenges, and a good amount of crafting parts from the loot boxes to upgrade your cards. Some of the higher tier star cards definitely need some re-balancing, but they also require some grinding and leveling up through gameplay to unlock, so you won't get massacred by people with top tier gear on day 1.
Honestly, my advice would be to never mind what's going on over at Reddit, or YouTube or other websites. Most of them are just jumping on the bandwagon. If you really want to know how the game is going, just scout out around the forums here a bit and listen and chat with the folks who are actually playing the game.
There are undoubtedly issues that need to be ironed out. But honestly, I'm quite enjoying it so far. Really don't have any major complaints.
  • I do have a personal opinion if you really want it.

Cancel your preorder. Maybe rent it this weekend, if not definitely watch gameplay and listen to player feedback (ignore major publisher reviews or big YouTubers like AngryJoe who just complain for clickbait(BTW I don't hate AJ, but sometimes his obsession over small things can encumber less intelligent listeners true opinions))

Then buy the game at its first discount once you're sure. It could happen as early as Black Friday, definitely at some point briefly before Xmas.

    My true two cents.

I don’t see this game being discounted shortly after release date. Maybe by summer of next year.

Rumor is it'll have a slight price drop the weekend TLJ comes out. Probably only down to 40 or 50 from 60, but still a price drop.

And the last games price went down FAST. With this games current terrible PR, it could have a similar fate. I think it'll do a little better than 2015, personally

It depends... this game it's a tough call. It boils down to how much of a Star Wars fan you are. Right now the game have huge problems: The progression systeam is tide to either microtransactions or infinite grind. The campaign might seem shor for some people and the Arcade mode it's a solid fundation but it's currently kind of shallow.

On the other hand the detail and production value of the campaign are really high, StarFighter Assault has one of the best arcade/space sim engines that I've have seen (And I've seen a lot). The overall shooting mechanics are very good and the amount of content at launch it's surprisingly good.

The honest thing that I can say to you it's that this game it's not perfect... but it's a huge improvement from Battlefront 2015 and if you are a Star Wars fan, the campaing and the amazing StarFighter Assault mode worth the price of admission alone.

My recomendation to you if you don't have a lot of money to spare it's maybe to wait a month until the release of the first DLC... it's very likely that after the huge backlash the game it's getting, DICE it's gonna tweak and fix many of the controversy focused complains. but if you have a lot of money laying around just go for it today

If you're on Xbox or PS4 I truly don't think you need to worry about numbers or the community dying fast. 2015s game got a lot of (deserved) criticism and hate, but still had a large and loyal community that's still going. This game will be the same, despite the hate.

If you're buying on PC I would definitely wait for a price drop and ask other PC players what the numbers are looking like soon after launch

My only problems with this game are the trolling, and the fact that a lot of players are abusing the Specialists class, and the Assault class (getting killed constantly by vanguard is getting annoying). You also have the players who obvious spent real money killing us left and right. So much for the match making system of the game. I thought I was able to play with other players who are around the same level as me, not someone who has all three epic star cards.

is pay to win an actual thing then?? i thought they fixed that?

It’s really not a thing, no.

There is no real multiplayer, so it's useless to me as I can't play with friends. So if you want a stand alone, it's pretty and fun, otherwise I feel completely ripped off.
  • So I came to this after hearing reports how bad things are and all the hate. I've never played the first battlefront and the only Star Wars game I've played is SWTOR.

My first impression was wow this is awesome! I am really enjoying it. It looks great and plays pretty good although I need to get use to it. I am going to die a lot in multiplayer but that doesn't worry me. The game is fun.

As for pay to win, it's not. I think people need to not want everything on day 1. Just play it and enjoy. So what if there is a grind. If you enjoy the game then that's no issue. I've logged over 80 hours just on Widowmaker in Overwatch and I can easy see myself racking up a lot of hours as a heavy trooper here.

I think it's worth buying. I'm not a fan boi but I have grown up with Star Wars and this is floating my boat.
  • i think i will go for it then and try to play it as much as i can before it dies out as long as its better than the first and the loot crates are not too forced i'll be happy, and as for grinds i enjoy grinding (i spent many years on WoW so 30 hours for two heroes is nothing next to months for a mount haha)
  • Yeah I'd definately reccomend buying this game. It's improved a lot since the first game (minus loot crates...) but considering the crates dont really even give players an advantage, then it shouldnt worry you.

There is one thing I noticed that is heroes that arent in the same era as the map you are playing on cost 2000 more... which is just insanely stupid so I hope they change that.

do the heroes still cost the same as in the beta? as i rarely saw them get used as matches finished so quick

Right now it costs 8000 to play heroes not in the era of the map you're on, and 6000 to play heroes of the same era. Which I think is super dumb and should be reverted back to 5000 like in the beta.

they increased it from beta jeez, i barely ever saw anyone use the heroes during my few days in beta
  • No it isn't. I will give some reasons why. This game feels rushed, it is great in terms of art and gameplay, but the content is lacking so much from all the hype it got. I would say wait a few months of DLC and fixing before buying.

does it not have like 3 times the amount? i personally was ok with the content from the first game i just enjoyed playing in star wars locations with star wars weapons

On a side note, it's a little difficult to play the objective. When I try, it only results in me getting massacred by more than 1 player, and I'm left in humiliation. And I know..some of you will say "get good." Well, that's what I'm doing, at least it's what I'm trying to do. Most of the time my team is out for kills only, and they're scattered, while the only team travels in packs. You can always tell from the start of the match which team will win or lose. Must be part of the matchmaking.

Same thing happens to me. I think it is because right now theres so many people playing that are focusing on kills / first time playing so they dont know how to play the objectives or how the maps work. Im sure once people get used to the controls and what to do there will be a lot more people helping on objectives.
