Specialist Class Nerfs Went too far

Hello Everyone,

I just wanted to give my 2 cents on the specialist class in it's current form. I'm going to name a few things and probably not touch on everything.

The A280-CFE is too weak in it's current form. As it stands now it requires far too many shots (even head shots) to kill an opponent. It's too easy to find cover in this game and people just dodge out of the way or find cover before you can kill them most of the time. Now in beta this was not the case. I feel like it's been significantly nerfed beyond the point of usefulness. I understand it gets a bit better with the burst mode, but it's a steep hill to climb in order to get that. It takes 150 kills. Been playing specialist exclusively for the past few days, putting in plenty of hours, and still not even close to that.

Flash Grenade. Not really a nerf but this ability blows in comparison with other grenades. It just isn't that useful, especially for this class. Low damage, and low damage...and a weak slow....did I say low ***** damage? How about a blind ability? Well whatever but it just sucks.

Infiltration: OK....i know people complained it was OP in beta and yes it was good. But now it sucks in two ways....each shot reduces the timer and the damage sucks. I believe it has more to do with the rate of fire. So, i hope this gets looked at closely. Please raise the rate of fire back to where it originally was or somewhere in between or remove the decreasing timer aspect. Make it more viable period especially since it's our PRIMARY skill. Ok my main reason for hating it in it's current state is the classes low hit points. We are supposed to be a glass cannon....a glass melee canon apparently. I kill more people with melee attacks while using infiltration than I do with the weapon...and than usually die right there after. Oh and I have to use the personal shield generator or it's death before I get close.

Those are just a few observations I can think of. Curious to know what the developers think. Please respond.

Thanks

  • I have to agree with this. I hardly play the specialist, but I have definitely noticed that I die far less in this current build than I was dying to the specialist in the beta. Sure, they were a tad too strong in the beta. But now, it feels as if assault is the class to play if you want to farm points for vehicles or heroes, since they have an all around strong set of abilities compared to the rest of the classes. I also agree it is easy to get into cover when you are being hit by a specialist. Hopefully it gets tweaked here soon.

    Thanks for the comments Farengar.
  • The game is just out though, I mean maybe 3-4+ months from now things are going to start getting balanced.

That's way too long to wait for a balancing patch if you ask me. It doesn't take much to figure this out for the devs, they could fix it sooner.

Yeh well that's just how it is bro. I haven't played Star Wars The Old Republic for a long time now, but it is quite amazing how far it has gotten (and changed) since release. Quite a few of the indie-based games I play on Steam have needed like a year or more of tweaking for them to reach a solid state.

This is not an indie game, it's a AAA game. We all paid a lot of money to play this thing. I expect results. They nerfed it in less than a month, they can fix it just as fast.
  • In my opinion all that infiltration is good for now, is maybe sneaking around behind the other side and getting to a back objective.
Trip mine though has to be the only useful skill as nobody expects it at this stage of the game
I've relegated the specialist to hiding behind my team and taking pot shots hoping for an assist

I don’t play specialist so I can’t be of much help in that regard but they have stated that they will update the game more often this go-around. TLJ Season drops on December 13; they’ll more than likely have balancing changes in that update.
Who knows if they’ll update before then but I’ve seen some of the devs on Twitter talking about already taking notes on potential balancing changes
  • I have exclusively played with specialist and I love it. A280-CFE melts guys mid range with the burst mod. I find the infiltrator is decent enough in close quarters and is awesome because of the radar. In my experience with the other classes, the guns feel like peashooters in comparison
  • Exactly! I feel like we should be able to one shot every class except Heavy if we get a headshot! You put the effort into getting that shot and it only downs other specialists :/ like come on! Not to mention most of the time every other class can damage you at what should be a safe distance for sniping!

I feel like the majority of the starcards are fine for the classes but the actual sniping lets you down a little

You serious about that last statement? The other guns are pea shooters?

Yea that’s what they felt like to me. Perhaps I’m just more comfortable with the snipers
  • I too exclusively use specialist for the A280 CFE with burst mode and rarely use infiltration. Only the active time of infiltration needed nerfing not the fire rate of the gun.
    Need my scanner fixed please
  • Infiltration is useless now. I'm fine with the fact I can't get it to be up all the time, but the fact that the EE-4 does no damage and has a slow fire rate makes it just not worth it. I'm just gonna stand back and snipe people from a distance.
  • Yep the class is really useless right now. Better off using one of the two most overpowered classes in the game, that being the assult and officer. like seriously, i went like 42 and 2 one game with the officer on my first time playing the class.
  • 100 hp is too low. Not even a glass cannon. Just glass
  • And the killing power of infiltrator is horrible. If the dps is going to be that low then you should get some health on kill
  • I like trains
  • All of this is true. I'm glad people are still posting about their distaste for this class so it gets fixed more quickly.

EA did not play test their own game before launch. Extremely disappointing. I loved the specialist in beta,,yes infiltration was op but that does not constitute nerfing every aspect of the class all the way down to bullet velocity. At the moment I gave up on the class, as I have fun and can actually contribute with other classes.

There's a lot to be said honestly.
  • Definitely feel the Specialist Classes got nerfed to far. The two base starter weapons are aweful. I shot this one guy in the head three times at a range of 4 feet away, he just starred at me then shot me dead (and no it was NOT the Heavy Class). Yeah...needs a buff.
    “There is always hope.”
  • I solely played as specialist, and i certainly feel that there's something odd. I don't do enough damage for the health i have...assault, heavies, officers...they can kill me just by blinking in my direction. To add insult to injury, that horrible scope glare (meaning everyone you're aiming at will have a huge flash of light where you are) makes sniping an inefficient proposition. I've had officers counter-snipe me with their pistols as soon as i tried to aim down range.

Right now heavies are having way too much fun at my expense...i am basically a free kill to anyone that sees me, less by some miracle i manage to get 2-3 or even 4 headshots

I do hope they fix it, but i don't think they will.
  • Specialist is good. Unlock the 3rd rifle and you'll be hitting headshot after headshot.
