Game won't load after today's patch

I get a black screen and the TV says no input signal. I tried every which way I know to get back to Windows (control alt delete, control escape, windows key) and nothing seemed to work. The only thing that worked was to hold down the power button and reboot.

Replies

  • Same here, my pc doesn't lock out, but when I try to start the game nothing happens, and after a minute or so the PLAY button on Origin lights up again.

Mine just went totally black but the PC was still on as the fans and lights were on. I will try again in a minute or so and report back to this thread.
  • I'll try to reinstall it, I'll tell you if it works.

If it comes to that, I will probably ask for a refund and have valid reasons for it.

But do report back with your findings.
  • Just tried again, same thing, but this time I could hear the music.
  • I have the same issue.

Just got back in. Here is what worked for me.

1.Right clicked "repair" on the game in origin.

2.Ran CCleaner and did a registry clean.

3.Changed my overall resolution in Nvidia control panel to 3840x2160 (4K,)

4.Clicked on the actual exe file rather than Origin doing it for me.

In the game I noticed its not in 4K but in 1920x1080 (I could tell by the size of the shadowplay icons), no idea why that worked, but I do think maybe that number 3 option was the one that worked.

Something else to note...Whenever the game starts its a minimized window on the taskbar and I was unable to get the mouse to go lower than 3/4 of the screen to get to it. A control+Alt+Delete allowed me the chance to get to the minimized window.

If this helps I would like to hear from you, will check back in a bit after the daily grind for craft parts.
  • Today I tried setting my Windows resolution back to 1920x1080 and tried to play the game. Same thing happens, loads to a black screen and TV says no input. Did a hard reboot with the power button, changed Windows resolution back to 4K, loaded the game, the game starts minimized, clicked the window, presto, and the game works fine. Which makes no sense at all considering the in game settings is set to display 1920x1080.

I think what I will try now is to set the in game settings to windowed mode and close the game, return to Windows and set it to 1920x1080, try to play again. If successful once in the game I will try to set it to full screen and see what happens.
  • Try this -
Go to C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\Documents\STAR WARS Battlefront II

    Then select Settings >
Make a copy of your settings folder and place it on your desktop.
Then DELETE your original Settings folder.
Restart PC, or try Origin and see if that works.
  • You can try deleting the SWBFii.exe and REPAIR in Origin.
  • It sounds like a Graphics driver crash on startup. Try a previous driver.
Nvidia drivers are just like lootboxes. You never know what ya get
  • I get this aswell, or almost the same bug.

    This is what's happening
    1. Screen starts windowed
    2. window turns black
    3. window turns 50% white and 50% black
    4. window turns black
    5. Origin crashes

This is what I tried so far
    1. Restarting computer
    2. deleting bf2 folder
    3. repairing bf2
    4. reinstalling bf2
    5. start in different resolution, as admin and from the .exe.
    6. everything above in different orders/combinations

    Please fix
Ah w/e let's ***** it up some more

Thanks for all who replied. I tried the two suggestions above about deleting the exe and settings folder and having Origin reconstitute them. No effect :(

I even got the newest Nvidia driver, went from 388_13 to 388_31, no effect :(

It's not the video card driver because this problem started directly after yesterday's patch.

But, I am getting closer to narrowing it down. I said I was gonna set the game to windowed mode and close, then go back in Windows and set the resolution to 1920x1080 and restart the game. I did, and while inside BF2 I set it to fullscreen, and then I got the black screen of desolation once again (this makes Battlefield 4 lock ups seem tame by comparison, least I could alt-control-delete and get out of those).

Yet, if I set the Windows resolution to 4K, I can get in the game and it seems fine THOUGH the game itself is in 1920x1080. Why don't I just run the game in 4K then? Because the frame rate is absolutely horrible on my current GPUs (2x780 ti), even on low.

Seems to be a problem having Windows in 1920x1080 and then trying to start the game full screen 1920x1080, windowed seemed to work, I imagine borderless would have worked too.

Amen to that, but in this case the problem occurred directly after the patch that came down the pipe.

    Hi all,

Just a heads up that we've seen your reports and we're looking into it :)

In the meantime, it's best to post your technical issues on Answers HQ as that makes it easier for us to track the problems:

  • Tom I will be doing that from now on, I never knew that part existed.

I thought I might post in this thread a few more times just for now unless the thread gets moved.

I just tried again on a different TV that is only 1080P. I got a similar but interesting result.

As soon as it started to go into the game I saw the screen go black and the shadowplay frame counter was up for a second or two then vanished. But this time the PC cut itself off and rebooted by itself after like 30 seconds or so.

When it started the PC desktop had the "report an error" box come up

Right now I have moved the PC to a location that only has 1080P TVs and monitors, so may have to break for a week or so till this *hopefully* can be fixed.

But I will keep trying things in the meantime.

Thanks everyone for all the help and suggestions. Does anyone know how I can start this game in safe from Origin? Like the commands or statements to put there?

I can do that, trying right now, but I'm having a bit of trouble because of file permissions on that file.

    the driver crashed.

your driver wanted to write to an adress that was either already in use or doesnt exist.

try starting the game without SLI
i have also seen some issues resolved by flipping the sli bridge.

    if this doesnt help:

use driver cleaner to remove any trace of the nvidia drivers previously installed, there is always a file somewhere left behind after a removal.
driver cleaner deletes everything nvidia/amd related.
    then install the latest driver

Thanks! That seems to have done the trick! I went in Nvidia control panel and disabled SLI then loaded Battlefront 2. It loaded and I did a few rounds. To my surprise I was doing about as well with one card as I had did with two. So I closed BF2. Went back in the Nvidia panel and ractivated SLI, relaunched BF2 and it worked. Closed out and tried again just to be on the safe side, and still went back in!

I did not flip the SLI bridge but I remember doing that for Battlefield 3 and it helped.

Seems now I'm confused about the status of my SLI, is my second card damaged or something?

your second card is fine, trust me you will know when a card is broken.
i have heard multiple complaints about SLI not working properly on BF2.

people in the beta had to load up a diffrent SLI profile to get it working. it should still be on the forum
