  • Yeah don't get me wrong, I still want more SFA development, but the fundamental inadequacies of the game mode need a much bigger overhaul than we're likely to get at this late stage. Every round of every SFA map is the same attack/defend with "destroy map element" scheme, if the defense wins once the round is over which is basically punishing success in phases 1 or 2, absolutely no spawn protection, the same hero-hogging BP system that plagues the rest of the game, absolute failure of a matchmaker, the entire abomination that is Hero Starfighters... this ship's already hit the iceberg. I just want to keep dancing as long as possible before it finally goes under :(

    The best thing for the next maps (of there will ever be some) would be more "sandbox" with tickets and attack/defend objectives at the same time.

    I feel a team battle mode like the one currently in Arcade would fix a lot of the issues you've mentioned. Maybe give bonus points for destroying a frigate or transport like in BF 2015.

    As for maps, the large scale GA maps like Kashyyyk, Geonosis, Hoth and Starkiller Base would be ideal. Even maps from the campaign like Bespin and Takodana could potentially work.
  • Hope sure but not with EA or DIsney, they destroyed SW

    At the beginning Starfighter wasn't in arcade.
    In arcade, all cards are available and in purple, which is dumb because it's in PvP that it's needed (balance).

    SA (or GA) are horrible PvP modes, it should have been design in Coop vs IA
    PvP needs balance, so being able to have hereos, vehicules... vs troopers is a bad PvP mode by design.

    I just play sometime because i love SW starfighters but this game is so disappointing because it has huge qualities destroyed by stupid decisions from Marketing and Managers.

    Have you tried to play Star Wars Battlefront's (2015) "Fighter Squadron" game mode lately? It is utterly dead, people moved on. Unless you play bots Offline.

    I get the love for the "Starfighter Assault" game mode it's loads of fun but your asking for something that will soon die. Why not put your focus on improving the Offline version "Arcade: Starfighter Team Battle"...something that will be around for generations. Just saying (shrug). How about instead asking for objectives other then just "Blast" style. Now that would be productive. 😎👍🏼 This thread sadly is dead on arrival. There is no future because eventually the servers will no longer be supporting it. Some of you may not care and just move on...but many of us do care. We care greatly.

    They said it's diificult to make IA play objectives so the solution is to remove objectives for IA.
    IA objective is to attack people, people have to complete objectives in a limited amount of time/death, the end
    Damn i just created coop SA and GA...

    Split GA in 2 modes Troopers or Starfighters but make them play at the same time.
    15v15 on the ground, 5v5 in the air. Starfighters will need their own objectives to avoid targeting people on the ground. Give real bombs (not missiles) to Y-wing and Tie bomber but with high cooldown (with Y button Xbox for example)
    I would like to play only starfighters on GA maps.

    If a map has 3 phases, split it in 3 maps and put longer objectives for each.
    It removes the dumb defeat if you lose in phase 3 when you succeed phase 1&2, and it will give the illusion that there are more maps.

    Hereos shouldn't be available regarding points but regarding time -> everybody would be able to play a hero at least 1 min. If you die after playing more than 1 min as a hero, you can't play heroes anymore (more balance).

    Remove waiting time after dying and give 3s of invulnerability at spawn

    I appreciate that! Starfighters assault is a great mode and it has lot of fans... I know people who bought the game most for that mode. Unfortunately along the years we lost many players due to the lack of contents... Some told me that they would be back of they would add new contents, some maybe are lost forever.
    But even with this sad situation, I never have problem to play the mode (at least on ps4, where I play), it's incredible there is still a strong fun base despite the lack of support to the mode by the devs.
    I understand that, overall, there are more "famous" modes. But from more than one year we received contents for the same 3 modes (hvv, supremacy, coop) over and over and over. I understand the "priority", but at this point it's really unfair for people who enjoy the other modes like starfighters, GA ecc... It should be time to make also the other players happy.
    I still have some hope for what will come after the next update.

    Then why would anyone ever invest interest or make threads on a dedicated forum if eventually servers will no longer support it? And have you ever thought that SA is universally more popular than FS, which is why that gamemode is dead but SA isn’t? Especially the fact that FS is from an older, previous instalment of battlefront games?

    yeah these are the best things about the mode, it has very good balance (compared to everything else), a couple of maps need objective tweaks but this is the best mode in BF2 in terms of design and programming

  • So, SFA bump brigade. I made a topic about some improvements that I think would greatly improve the Hero Starfighters mode... and it seems to be getting largely ignored by everyone. I surely can't be the only person getting fed up of the constant waiting around for other players in that mode? Anyone want to help a fellow SFA fan out with a comment on it?

    Hi bud, I did see your thread but I didn't want to crap all over your ideas when actually I feel that entire mode needs to be TDM with Hero respawn.
  • Honestly man, don't worry about disagreeing with my ideas if you've got alternative ones to improve the mode. It was just the first things that popped into my head - anything to try and not end up with the 'waiting for teams to be balanced' purgatory.

  • Devs, if you're waiting to sort out the objective-attacking component of fighter AI before releasing SFA Co-Op: don't. We had infantry Co-Op released with just attack mode for a while until defense was ready and that was just fine. Better something for now instead of nothing 'til later, really.

  • Wouldnt it be amazing if we got the Scarif Shield Gate as a SA map for the Rebellion update... sigh... one can dream.

    And not just the U-Wing escourt... that would be the end phase.... there should be phases before that where you have to take out a Star Destoyer to provide an opportunity for Raddus' ship to jump in or something

    Here are some ideas I can think of: using concepts/mechanics from other maps.

    In an intro cinematic, a Star Destroyer crashes into the Shield Gate and disables it (like in Rogue One), leaving it open as Rebel U-Wings head for the surface.

    Phase 1- The Rebels have to defeat the Imperial Frigates (like Fondor).
    Phase 2- The Rebels must cripple a Star Destroyer by destroying its shield generators.
    Phase 3- The Imperials launch a counter-attack as the Rebel U-Wings head for the surface. The Rebels must survive for a couple of minutes (like D'Qar).

    Empire- Defending:
    The Imperials must defeat the Rebel forces, with AI units such as Rebel Corvettes, Y-Wings and U-Wings counting as additional eliminations.

    End Cinematics: If the Rebels win, the U-Wings pass through the Shield Gate while the Rebel escorts defeat any Imperial ships. If the Empire wins, the Devastator will arrive out of hyperspace and crash into a Rebel Corvette.

    I like it! Only change I'd make to your post is the end cinematic:
    If the Empire wins, the Deathstar fires upon the surface, panning to a Rebel frigate being pursued by a star destroyer.

    New maps and reinforcement additions would be all that is needed to revitalise SA.
    New maps for new experiences.
    New reinforcements to change up the play of launch maps and also for new classes to change meta.

    Two things happening here:

    1) the results of two minutes of full-bore spawncamping by half the defense on Resurgent-Class Star Destroyer as soon as the round began;
    2) a premade abusing some hero ship glitch to get four hero ships during phase one.

    Over the last two weeks it's just been getting worse and worse, with rampant unrepentant spawncamping, glitch abuse, lag switching, premade curbstomps, matchmaking failures and straight-up hacking/cheating, but this is the last straw. I can literally count on one hand the number of clean, non-abusive, fair and fairly-played game sessions I've had since double XP started, and especially in a mode that's already on critical life support, that's not enough. Starfighter Assault has conclusively become more trouble than it's worth.

    (1.) Some invest interest or make threads on a dedicated forum for Online content because as soon as the game dies they move on, they don't care. It's a spur of the moment thing. The latest thing.

    (2.) Some invest interest or make threads on a dedicated forum for Online content because they truly love the mode and as I said I get that...I do. But it's like building a building on quick sand. The console runs out of time. Now...maybe the devs will extend support for years to come and I'd love that. But there is no guarantees. I recently argued with I guy that said the next up date is the last. Hey, I'm the first guy to fight against such negative talk. I want this game to via (life), live... But I also need to face the music. It will eventually fade.

    The X-Box One is at the end of it's cycle. It gets replaced in December. Eventually we will lose support. What will be left?

    (3.) Yes I agree Star Fighter Assault is universally more popular than Fighter Squadron.

    (4.) What's wrong with Fighter Squadron being from an older, previous installment of Star Wars Battlefront games?

    Had the game since launch and revisited SA to play in first person for the first time (only ever played in 3rd)....... Oh its a revelation... SA is my main mode again!

    Wish they did more with 1st person in starfighters. It's good now but could be better imo

    I know. I wish you could look around inside the cockpits and see more of them. Plus it would make fighting in that view a lot easier.

    That with button pressing and a FOV slider. I'd never play in 3rd person again

    The lack of any PSVR support for SFA is a crying shame. I absolutely loved the Rogue One PSVR mission from BF 2015 and was convinced we'd eventually get something similar for BF2 😥
