Iden - Pulse Cannon

For those who have or on the way of completing Iden's 50 kills with her pulse cannon milestone, how are you getting your kills? I've been playing for hours and I am still yet to rack up 10 in total. Any helpful tips would be greatly appreciated

  • I'd love some advice for it aswell... its painful.
  • You don't have to fully charge the weapon before firing to kill troopers with a single body shot or do fair damage to a hero/villain. Play around with it.

You can gain close to medium distance kills easier without aiming with the scope. Helpful to still be aware of your surroundings and have more movement.

You don't have to get the enemy in your Crosshair before preparing to fire. Remember it has to charge some.

Other than that there are many moments in galactic assault good for specialist/snipe kills.

I gained a lot of these in HvV. I'm a mediocre player so you can do it.

I was thinking of heading to HvV but I felt like I'd never be able t finish anyone off with it. Next time I'm on Kamino I'll give it a try, thanks for the tips!

  • Use iden on large open maps like hoth. Hoth is a great map to use iden’s pulse canon
  • Bossks works better. No reason to pick Iden over Bossk or Phasma currently

^This. Crait is also a good map for her, if you can get her early. Side note: If you catch a hero camping/stationary, then you can take them out quick. I killed Finn once with 2 fully charged shots...pretty sure both hit him in the head. Not sure if he had full health, but if not then it was really close to full.
Yes, play! Yes, a gamer's strength flows from adjustment. But beware of the nerf side...not adapting your tactics, stubbornness, wanting the game catered to you; the nerf side of gaming are they. Easily they flow, quick to join you in a death & respawn. If once you start down the nerf path, forever will it dominate your destiny, consume you it will, as it did many an apprentice.

I just recently got it. Basically you have to hero farm and get Iden early when matches are still out in the open, and then hang back and just snipe all day. You’ll outsnipe specialists with your slightly better healthoool, but watch out for starships and don’t get too close. Took me about 8 matches playing with her to rack up 50 with that piece of junk cannon.
  • For some reason the last phase of kashyyk netted me plenty of pulse cannon Iden kills. Hoth too.
  • My strategy is to wait until they buff the thing. It's less painful than attempting the milestone and less costly than replacing both my window and computer after the one is hurled through the other.
  • I got quite a few on the last phase of Crait. Just hang in the back and becareful because she's squishy
Don't click unless you want to know the truth....
  • Struggling with it too.

The pulse cannon went from my favorite weapon in the last game, to my least fav in this game. Might be one of the worst scopes Ive ever played with.

Best spot i found was on Hoth 2nd phase... you got good cover for sniping the base from outside the hanger door and most of the time the enemies cant see you because of the sun glare.

More importantly they cant flank you and no starfighter strafing at you.

Best do it when you have hopeless team.
  • Ugh, Iden is so useless.
  • I wish it had an instant shot, equivalent to an upgraded IQA-11, with optional charging for hard targets. That'd make it a great rifle.
  • Thank you all for your help! Getting there slowly...

  • I was able to complete this challenge.
Lots of kills in Hoth 1st and 2nd fase. Same with Yavin 2nd fase.
Some in HvV with a friend helping with Kylo's freeze (same strategy used to finish Phasma's staff challenge)

Good luck, and let the grind continue! :D

as for phasma i just spammed her in HvV.... with you droid up in theory if you land the first swing you can land all three.. but if i knew there was an AFKer on the other team i would hunt them out and spam it on them ignoring the objective... (yea yea yea) i havnt used phasma since..... not thats she bad i just like to be aggressive and dont want to rely on that stun droid

There's a card which reduced the amount of time you have to hold the trigger before you can shoot. I'd recommend using it since it makes a HUGE difference.

I've just completed this (PS4) exclusively on HvV and it must have taken me at least 30 matches. I didn't play more than 2 matches with the same team as I didn't think that was fair because although I was also playing the objective as well as I could, I had the Pulse Cannon armed the whole time and it's just not an effective weapon, in HvV at least. At first I was lucky to get 1 per game (and had many games where I didn't get any) but towards the end I was able to get 3 or 4 a game pretty reliably. Things got better when I turned aim assist on (usually play with it off) so I would definitely do that.

That said, I'd take probably 10 deaths in many, if not most, matches (I am a distinctly average trooper / hero player - much better in a starfighter). The good news is that even in unbalanced matches you can pick up a few kills... the impact is I ended with a lot of deaths when playing good teams.

It's important to get the timing right: it takes about 2 seconds to charge (don't need the second "w") and I found it took three headshots to kill a full-health hero. Needless to say six seconds is an eternity when Rey will kill you in one sabre charge or with two swings.

Some of my kills were at long range (on Kamino, Naboo and Star Killer) but most were by keeping close(ish) to my team and hip-firing into sabre fights. You get lots of near misses, but the occasional kill. I was beginning to be able to take health down with the TL-50, stun with the droid and finish off with the pulse cannon - I managed it a couple of times, and a couple of times I accidentally killed my opponent with the TL-50 or the stun droid, but mostly I just got killed. Phasma and her droid are your friends. If Phasma's in your team, stay with her. I stole quite a few of the kills that way.

The stun droid is useful - especially if you are facing a hero who already has reduced health. Pop a PC shot while stunned and one while they run towards you. Beware Rey though - not sure if it's glitchy or what but more often than not the stun had absolutely no effect on her. Chewie can also keep firing at you when stunned - possibly the other blaster heroes too.

I did get better at using the Pulse Cannon - which I suppose is the point of these Milestone challenges. When I eventually got to 30/50 I was cursing that the target was so high but the last 20 came reasonably quickly (did them in a couple of hours today) so it turned out to be not as a bad as all that (certainly not as bad as Phasma's pole dancing).

Apart from towards the end I rarely ran the TL-50 unless I was the target. I suspect she's actually quite viable in HvV if played correctly (i.e. by pretty much ignoring the Pulse Cannon).

If they ever publish hero-by-hero K/D stats I'll have a fair amount of work to do to get her back above 1 but I am pleased to have ticked this one off. Only Boba's Triple Barrage Kills to go now and that one looks like more or less pure luck...

P.S. I don't find her Star Cards particularly useful for this challenge aside from the one that allows the droid to recharge more quickly.

Thanks for this. I'm working on this one (my last hero challenge and just a few hero ships to finish). I appreciate the advice.

And good luck with Boba's triple kill. I won't lie -- that took me ages. I'm a pretty average player, so I did a quick write up of how I eventually got it.
  • got a lot of mine on crait.....
  • This is really easy for me, got it in a matter of days. Use it like a shotgun. Phasma’s staff, Luke’s push and Boba’s barrage are way more difficult.

Funny isn't it - I got Luke's force push without really trying... but I certainly agree about Phasma's staff.

I couldn't find it after a few searches, but still had what I wrote. Here is what I posted at the time:

I was struggling with this challenge and finally achieved it yesterday after a few weeks of trying. I thought I might share a few thoughts and tips in case it helps some other OCD person who is also hung up on trying to get it done so they can complete all their milestones…

First, I upgraded the extra rockets card to purple. I’m not sure this one would have been possible for me without the extra firepower. I also upgraded anti-hero rockets but quickly concluded I wouldn’t be able to complete this on Heroes vs. Villains without a massive bit of luck. It seemed more likely that I’d get 3 troopers at once on a crowed GA map than 3 heroes at the same time with low health and all bunched together.

Then, I setup arcade for extreme onslaught, with all health at normal but fast ability recharge. I did that to get a feel for the delay in rocket firing. I learned that you had to lead AI troopers a little bit because the rockets take a moment to fire, and that was more pronounced in real GA play.

Finally, after getting killed as Boba a lot, I found a strategy that almost worked a few times (2 kills and an assist) and eventually paid off. Basically, I treated the rockets as a close-range weapon, and expected to die shortly after I fired. I didn’t try to stay safe or get multiple shots. When I tried to preserve health it just ended up getting me killed slowly without coming close to a triple kill with the rockets. The damage was too low or inconsistent with the troopers far away.

To get close I would use the jetpack to get to a crowded choke point (preferably to the side of the enemy or behind), try to find a group mashed together, and spread the rockets between them instead of firing in the middle.

I think the best spot I found was on Yavin. In the second phase of the game players bunch up in the control area that has to be captured. You can fly quickly to the far side of the room near the edge of the map and flank the rebels. I got a couple of close calls there. The final capture rooms on that map can be Ok, and the throne room in Theed is a good choice. So is the area next to the U Wing on Mos Eisley.

I actually finished the milestone with a quad kill on players running into the capture area on the final stage of Endor, but it was more luck and desperation than anything. I felt like I had better chances on other maps that just didn’t work out as well.

Anyhow, many or most might not be interested in this, but it was the only milestone I had big trouble with (although Phasma’s staff strikes and Finn’s headshots were tedious) so I wanted to pass this along in case it helps someone else. Good luck to you in knocking this one out!

Thanks Bro that's interesting and helpful. Don't think I'll get to try before Wednesday now so hopefully no more Boba nerfs are coming!
  • I am currently grinding this out as it's my last Hero Milestone, at about 30/50.

I have honestly found HvV to be the best, just have the pulse cannon equipped at all times and constantly shoot the enemy team when they are engaged in battle and hope you get that lucky last shot. Upgrade and use the droid to stun people into place when they are low on health then get that killing shot in.

It's still slow but I can get 4-5 per round.

I appreciate this. I might try the stun/shoot method today. I guess I can't get any worse with it, so I might as well practice.

It's not a greatly devised weapon or ideal milestone for HvV team play - like, at all. In fact it's a conniving leech style achievement. Gotta hang around your Vadars, Palps, Mauls and charge the pulse cannon and get the final lick and steal the elimination. I averaged 1 per match (2 max), so thats about ~40 matches with the pulse cannon to reach 50.. Total grind, now I'm all about grinding & earning, but the ability should be functional & valuable in the game...I may never use that ability ever again.

Now...it's in a similar ilk of the BF1 pulse cannon - which was a great weapon - but let's take into account that only phase 1 on GA maps does sniping & long blasters make any logistical sense ...AND WHO HAS 6k-8k FOR IDEN AT PHASE 1!!!???? ..Think before you design the ability!!

EDIT: cards that help: HOT SWAP and anything that increases shock droid usage. The shock droid can stun a depleted saber opponent in HvV while you charge that cannon, but if they're at near-full health and they go 1 on 1 vs you, you won't get very far unless you can manage to widdle them down with the TL to 10-15% health, couple lucky combat rolls, and then you might* get one. That happened about 6-7x for me. The rest was straight up leeching.
Let's all remember that Luke's hand didn't clank to the stone when he vanished....Everything organic disappears as a force ghost. The in-organic stays...

Got it in HvV cuz you can have her all the time, quit rebel matches and rejoin until you are imp again. hip/charge/fire at close/medium range, snipe when you are approaching the combat area after respawning.
I actually "stole" more kills than anything else, lol.
  • Bossks works better. No reason to pick Iden over Bossk or Phasma currently

this is the main issue of GA right now .... 3 heroes/side dominate in GA and the others or just ok...... I do better with enforcers than half the heroes.... so every game we fight against palpatine, bossk and vador vs rey, yoda and leia ......
  • I actually really like her pulse cannon. Used it a bunch on crate and got a ton of kills. Just know if you use her pulse cannon your going to want to be chilling in back of map with it.
  • I got a lot of kills with it on maps like Hoth, Kashyyyk, and Crait.

They honestly should just scrap this whole ability. All it does is just slow down Iden's actual playstyle. There's no need for a sniper rifle when the secondary fire practically fulfills the same role but 100x better.

finished her 50 kills milestone in just 2 games. First game was on Jakku. You'll need to make sure you get Iden before phase 2 starts and hang back wreck face.

the second game was on Hoth, again need to get her halfway through Phase 1, easily snipe kills until end of phase 2.
