I Have Waited a Long Time for this Moment, My Little Green Friend (Yoda Guide)

Welcome to my Yoda guide! I’ve never done one of these before, but hopefully I can help some of you that are struggling with Yoda. I’ve thought about doing this for a while, but I wanted to make sure it was of decent quality before I posted it. Stay tuned for my Dagobah DLC coming soon (see what I did there?) as well, as I have also been working hard on that and will post it when I feel it is finished.

Anyways, let’s get started with some basics, starting with Yoda’s playstyle. Yoda is very versatile, but in my opinion, there are 2 main ways that Yoda can be played effectively:

Tanky Support- This Yoda is built to be as tanky as possible with the goal of directly pushing/holding objectives by absorbing tons of fire for his team. He isn’t as mobile as other Yodas, but he makes up for this with his increased health and damage reduction. The recommended cards for this are Jedi Mentor, Enduring Presence and Feel the Force.

Aggressive Flanker- This Yoda is less tanky but more mobile, which is helpful when behind enemy lines if you need to make a quick escape. Yoda is very good at dealing with large groups of infantry due to his high health and decent mobility, making him very good when flanking because you will often be outnumbered. The recommended cards for this are Agility and Feel the Force, with the third being open for customization.

Now that we’ve covered some basics, let’s move on to more advanced tips.

1. Avoid large groups of infantry when both Presence and Unleash are on cooldown.

Running into large groups of infantry will get you killed quickly if both of these abilities are on cooldown, so instead simply use your dashes to make an escape and wait for them to finish recharging before engaging again.

2. Don’t waste Unleash on single infantry.

I know it’s tempting sometimes, but your dash attacks are sufficient to kill isolated infantry and you always want to make sure Unleash is ready for when you really need it.

3. Know which heroes you can hunt and which to avoid.

Avoid Palp and Maul, as they are much faster than you and can kill you very quickly unless you are very confident in your ability to duel. Feel free to hunt opposing blaster heroes though, as you can absorb their blaster fire and shoot it back at them before moving in for the kill while they are stunned. Be careful when around Phasm’s droid and watch out for Bossk’s Mines. Kylo and Vader also can be dealt with if you’re a decent duelist, but be careful to avoid their Freeze and/or Choke, as they will leave you very vulnerable to surrounding infantry.

4. Utilize Yoda’s small size.

Yoda is obviously very small, making it easy to hide behind various different things to keep himself safe and/or surprise enemies. My favorites are the small walls on Death Star 2 surrounding the objectives and the bushes on Kashyyk.

5. Block while interacting with objectives.

This is absolutely crucial when playing the objective, as you can hold block for a long time before running out of stamina. This will allow you to make significant progress on the objective while remaining safe from damage. If your health from Presence goes back to normal while doing this, stop interacting and retreat before activating Presence again and returning to the objective. If you aren’t surrounded by infantry, it may not be necessary to retreat, but always make sure you have extra health when around the objectives and interacting with them.

6. Don’t spam basic attacks against rollers.

Don’t do it, you’ll just be spinning around essentially in the same place while the roller is easily able to create distance from you. I will always try to kill infantry with my dash attack instead, but if it is on cooldown just wait before using multiple basic attacks. Yoda’s first basic attack has a decent lunge, so waiting will ensure that Yoda lunges every time he attacks, making it easier to hit rollers.

7. Do what feels natural.

Part of being good with a hero is being confident in your own ability and not forcing yourself to do things you aren’t comfortable with. Everyone has different playstyles, so what works for me may not work for you. As I said earlier, Yoda is extremely versatile so there is really no wrong way to play him as long as you understand his strengths and weaknesses.

With all of these tips listed, let’s look at some gameplay and see how many of them you can spot.

In this video, I show how to effectively play the objective on Death Star 2, utilizing Yoda’s small size to hide behind cover, blocking while interacting with objectives and retreating when my health from Presence is starting to get low.

In this video I do the same thing, using Unleash on large groups of enemies, retreating when Unleash and Presence are on cooldown and blocking while interacting with objectives.

Thanks to those of you who made it this far, as it is a bit long... I worked very hard on this though, so hopefully you guys will find something helpful in it even if you’re an advanced player. Feel free to share your own tips too if you feel that I missed something or if you simply have a different opinion. Thanks!

What's your thoughts about increase range and damage star cards of his Unleash ability? Are they to cute or do they impact the game greatly?

I really like Yoda's tanky build (increased Presence duration and Jedi reflexes). Is "Feel the Force" necessary in your build, or could I swap it out for one of the Unleash cards?

I think the Unleash cards are very situational, but mostly I just feel like increasing Yoda’s survivability is better because of how aggressively I play him and you sometimes need the extra health when standing still and interacting with objectives. You also can’t Unleash if you’re dead and I find that Unleash is still pretty decent without upgrades anyways.

Also, note that Master of the Force and Enduring Presence are not working properly at the time of posting this, so I wouldn’t use either until they are fixed in the next patch or whenever.

Feel the Force is probably Yoda’s best card IMO, as the extra health really adds up fast. An alternative build could use Feel the Force and Enduring Presence (once fixed) but with Agility instead of Jedi Mentor (damage reduction) for greater mobility, but I find I do just fine without extra dashes or upgraded Unleash. I honestly wouldn’t really bother with any of the other cards if they aren’t already upgraded.

Thx for the tips Broda, I have trouble with Yoda mainly in HvV, I love him in GA.
    Also,
    4. Utilize Yoda’s small size.

Yoda is obviously very small, making it easy to hide behind various different things and the bushes on Kashyyyk.
I can just imagine a lil Yoda hiding in a bush and popping out like: "JUDGE ME BY ME SIZE DO YOU?! HMM?!?!" and recking everyone :P

I think it depends on what you're trying to do with Yoda. I have to stand still a lot when interacting with objectives and I play Yoda very aggressively in general, so I prefer extra health over mobility. Enduring Presence currently isn't working though, so I've been using Agility until it's fixed.

Well, star cards are meant to be different for everyone's playstyle lol.

Also, don't forget to mention that you should hold block when you encounter a villain when you are in range for their force powers to block those. And, phasma's droid cannot stun you if you hold block while near it.

  • Thanks for the tips. I was just about to use my BP accumulation to upgrade Yoda anyways, so i'll try some of these out in-game.
  • Pretty good, props for putting in the time and effort to helping out underperforming Yoda players.

You forgot to mention these though: He can actually keep hitting light saber blocks without getting stunned.
His Unleash block can only block force powers, explosions / splash damage, and NOT light sabers / melee attacks or flamethrowers.
His dash can actually break through the blocks of Vader & Kylo, as well as piercing the invulnerability frames of the roll / dodge.
Everything else is pretty on spot, well done once again.

I could definitely use some tips at staying alive with Maul... Bossk is one of my new favorites, as well, although i find him overall easier to play.

I actually use both of those characters a lot, so it shouldn't be too hard. I'll start working on them and hopefully have at least 1 done by the end of next week. I'll tag you in it as well so you don't miss it if you want?

  • thank you, like this kind of threads
  • Thanks for this guide Broda.
For your objectives play with him, is yoda able to do overrides while blocking? Or do you just use the health bumps and then bounce off objectives, clear the area and return when it's smart to do so?
I want to git gud with yoda as he's probably my favorite character. So really appreciate this guide.

A Maul guide would be good too. Or I'd like a Bossk guide next if possible

  • Good job. I primarily HvV with Yoda, so it's nice reading a Yoda guide from the GA perspective.
  • I think you forgot to write the most important thing about being an elite Yoda player. How to attack effectively with his basic attacks...
  • are this the right cards?
  • I think you forgot to write the most important thing about being an elite Yoda player. How to attack effectively with his basic attacks...

    Read #6 again monkey.
@MLGGrandMasterBroda thanks for the advice. Even I didn’t think about waiting after each basic attack. I was wasting abilities on rollers.
As for Maul and Palpy, since Master of the Force is DOA, I’ve been using Opposing the Dark Side. Coupled with the dash attacks, you can get behind them and slash them fast, spin out, dodge their abilities, rinse repeat until dead. Obviously some players can play them better than others, but for the most part it does the job.

My apologies. Feel like a silly guy. The video wasn't working for me on mobile. It's clearly in the explanation though. Just watched the video though and see how it's done.
Really cool. I wouldn't have thought about that, since using infantry seems to lock you onto the override and nothing else as far as I can tell.

Just out of curiosity, why not upload video through YouTube?
  • Yoda also has a very convenient lunge range. I've learned to abuse this to an extreme in HvV.

I am pretty sure you can duck, use buffs, and use turrets while interacting.
