True based on that US ruling... SW is a global brand though. Because of this, common human decency was more what I was referring to when I wrote there is a difference between free speech and hate speech... People just claim free speech like it's some kind of excuse for being hateful. Just because something isn't illegal, doesn't make it ethical. Also, in the US, there wouldn't be constitutional protection for an actual threat that targets an individual for something like physical violence, for example.

This is sort of assuming everyone on the internet is covered by the first amendment though right? Of course I don’t want the government rounding up internet trolls but I still think the social media companies should do a better job weeding them out
I already wrote a post, which is under review for some reason. Stupid. Anyway to rephrase myself... your link is true in the US, but SW extends beyond the US as a global brand. Also, actual threats of violence/harm are not constitutional as free speech. And more importantly, just because something is legal doesn’t make it ethical.
Oh look, a great example of an immature post.
I agree.
What you said was immature, let's keep those words off the forums please
Great argument. We should all just tell kids who get bullied to the point that they become depressed or do something worse to themselves that they should just toughen up. I’m sure no one around them had told them to ignore the mean things people say. Counselors should just tell kids to toughen up. The world would be a better place if everyone gave out your advice.

It would. The sooner you realize that the less you care about random peoples opinions of you, the better off you will be. When I worked in psych the focus of the therapy groups and counseling sessions with the depressed/suicidal kids was not about telling them false praise to try to build up their self esteems... it was about training them to cope with whatever adversity they were facing whether real or imagined in a way that gave them control.
For kids who faced verbal abuse, one of the most powerful coping skills you can teach them is to de-legitimize the source of the abuse and convince the former victim that their tormentor is not a valid authority figure and THEY (the former victim) have control of how they react to the situation, not their tormentor AKA, ignore what the tormentor says, they don't matter. Once you teach the victim coping skills and they are able to utilize them, the victim will naturally gain self-esteem because they are becoming self reliant and learning not to base their self worth on the opinions of others... this cycle becomes a positive feedback loop and after a while you have a much tougher/resilient kid as far as dealing with what the world has to offer.
The sissified child/adolescent culture in which adults attempt to shield children from any/all conflict or negativity directed at them is resulting in a generation of teenagers and young adults who are totally maladjusted to real life, and they are having to be taught coping skills by clinical psychologists which they should have just learned automatically growing up through life experience.

This attitude of “just be a man” or “don’t be a sissy” is part of the problem though, and it is often used by older generations to unfairly attack millennials and Generation Z kids. Younger generations are some of the most educated and open-minded people out there, even if their parents try to shield them from too many things in your opinion.
With the internet, much self-discovery can take place, but also online bullying has become widespread, which has amplified so many problems and takes us back to the topic of the actress who played Rose. Sure, it is to be expected that there will be jerks out there. I’m sure she wasn’t overly surprised since becoming a minor celebrity, but it still sucks to be the target of that no matter how thick someone’s skin is. I’m sure she is quite used to it, in fact, since she is a non-white woman and has probably dealt with harassment on the regular.
Also psychology, counseling, etc. are not new nor are they only utilized by younger generations. Learning coping skills is part of the process, but many people can face complex behaviorial health issues and simply saying “toughen up” isn’t an actual solution, but it’s a strategy for an Internet forum post about Rose, I suppose.
The problem isn't solved by making your account private. It will definitely affect the social media experience of the public figure. Which isn't exactly fair. Especially with game developers, its good to have an open dialogue with gamers for things like feedback, news, etc. Making an account private isn't the best option. And theres no reason why someone should have to have a worse experience because of harassers/trolls.
The "bubble of protection" you talk of doesn't exist. Bullying still happens. Yes, there is more of a negative opinion of it that has developed in recent times - but thats because people are understanding that the older generations are wrong and that bullying doesn't "build character" or any kind of other excuses they make for being terrible people.
A long time ago, I was bullied because of my sexual orientation. It in no way helped me, or made me more confident so I could withstand insults etc. It just sucked, period. And because it was at school, it affected my performance... which in turn affected my future. My life would have been better without them, theres no doubt in my mind about that. I WISH I had had a bubble of protection.
Theres a large difference between HELPING people better deal with negative things, and BEING a negative thing. Bullying helps no one, it just makes them suffer. Everyone in the world is different. Everyone leads different lives, and has different pasts. Expecting people all to be tough just won't work in reality, no matter who they are.
The full responsibility of the harassment/trolling that Kelly Marie Tran has been the victim of sits on the shoulders of the trolls and the harassers. It isn't her fault - shes a nice person, who was only following her career and was a part of something amazing. Theres no 'shared blame' in this situation - there is one victim. But many aggressors - who have control over their actions, and have full knowledge about the hurt they will be inflicting but choose to continue anyway. It is their responsibility, and their fault - just like someone who breaks into a home is responsible for the crime, not the home owner for not having toughened glass.
Truth. Trolls are horrible, cruel forms of life. Some of the stuff that normal trolls say are enough to make me, a 6ft 5in, powerfully built man, want to go smash their computer with my fists. You can't do that stuff to people. It is not right. Just because you are anonymous, does not mean you have the right to attack a young lady's personal life. Even if she was a disappointing Star Wars character (I am not saying she was).
I am also the type of person that protects those who need it. I stand up against injustice. What they have said about her, makes me want to rush to her aid. I am very protective of people, it is just part of who I am.
Should she have expected backlash from the community? Yes. But this is enough to make a grown man commit his own killing. I have had enough of trolls. We as men and women should stand up against these cowards. She is still a human being, and a Star Wars fan.
Gone are the days when a man used to fight to the death for a young lady's honor. But I think that men and women of valor and chivalry still exist.

Fans/Haters shouldn't be harassing anyone in actuality. Vote with your wallet and find another interest but don't be a despicable human being.
Fan = Fanatic... fanatics by definition are unreasonable, as are haters. Expecting unreasonable people to be reasonable is unreasonable!

One of the greatest actors of all-time.

LOL. Greatest actor of all time? Maybe he’s decent if you count Joker cartoon voice acting...sorry but I had to say it. As much as I like the character, Luke, in the OT, his acting skill was mediocre, and he was pretty horrible in TLJ...
Despite this side note, he is still Star Wars royalty, and it’s cool to see him voicing support for Kelly!
Why? I like Kelly, and I like Rose. Good to see support for her.
Becasuse it has become a big argument over everything but kelly
I know right! Glad to see we can agree that Kelly/Rose is great.
The thing that actually made me nervous about going into TLJ was actually Mark Hamills acting lol. Love the guy and Luke but I was scared.

I like Kelly, and I have no prob with Rose. I actually kind of liked the story ark that her character has. I don't think I would put her above Poe though, he is awesome. I mean, he is one heckofa pilot.

Says the guy who refuses to watch Solo because his issue with "supporting Disney with their implementation of their left wing ideas"
That's the problem with so many folks who oppose those crazy radical "left wing ideas" (like not hating someone for who they are or what they do for a living), it's not enough to simply oppose.....which is your right. You feel the need to try and suppress the viewpoints of those you disagree with.
I'm not going to get into politics any more than you clearly have, other than to say that I'm very much reminded of the folks who will stop at nothing to suppress the minority vote, under the guise of "voter fraud".

Yes. Directors are fully responsible for the way actors perform.
Yeah, I won't support ideas that go against my religion, if you were a Christian like me, you'd understand.
Wait, what about Solo did you not like?

Haven't seen it yet
Why not? It's actually a great movie and would be entertaining for any SW fan. It's not even political.

I will, when it come to Netflix or something, right now I don't want to send a direct feed of money to Dinsey, (despite me buying the game before the nonsense)
Let me rephrase my question, I should have asked, what nonsense?

What do you think of Beauty and the Beast? Unacceptable?
Robots need love too!
I don't think anything... the question was posed regarding what a Christian would find offensive... robosexuals would offend many Christians (not to mention a host of other religions). Beauty and the Beast is Disney's lovely ode to Stockholm Syndrome... and technically the "beast" is actually a cursed human prince... while in the case of star wars, the robot is a robot.

Can’t they just... toughen up?
Ya, they should... I don't think you should let religious dogma run your life.

Sorry you don't support pansexuality between made up people, but you're entitled to your feelings. What are your objections to TLJ though? You clearly had an issue with this thread before there was any discussion of the dipping of the Wicket.

I watched it. I am a Christian. I think they just made up that sexuality to appeal to a larger crowd. I am a Christian, but I do not tell anyone what path they should choose. If Jared decides that he should not watch the movie because he believes that it is wrong. More power to him. I don't go see movies that use God's or Jesus' name as a swear word. We, as Christians and humans, all have things that convict us. Please do not start a religious war on this forum.
