My semi-realistic hopes for Clone skins
Here's what I'm hoping we get for clone skins:
Legions as map defaults:
ASSAULT CUSTOMIZATION
HEAVY CUSTOMIZATION
OFFICER CUSTOMIZATION
SPECIALIST CUSTOMIZATION
ENFORCER CUSTOMIZATION
I had to choose: hope for the bare minimum and hopefully avoid being disappointed, or hope for more and go big? I went big(ish) , because at this point they HAVE TO provide a good number of decent customizations in order to maintain player interest and make money. For later customization drops, they can add loads of other armor markings, different straps and bandoliers, new markings for the different helmet types, etc.
Legions as map defaults:
- KASHYYYK has 41st Elite in green camo
- KAMINO alternates between:
- - Phase-1 unmarked shinies (but Officers are armored, with green stripes!), and
- - Phase-2 501st Elite, Wookiees become ARC Troopers or Galactic Marines - THEED could really be almost any legion. Maybe have it randomly alternate between all the other legions, one time it's the 212th Attack Battalion, one time it's the 104th Wolfpack Squadron, one time it's the 327th Star Corps, etc.
- I'd really like to see most or at least some maps opened up to all eras, at least on Blast and Strike and a few other modes. This could give us the 501st Elite on Yavin, the 212th Attack Battalion in Mos Eisley, the 104th Wolfpack on Takodana, the 21st Nova Corps on Kessel, the 501st Elite in Jabba's Palace, the 65th Coruscant Guard on Jakku, the 327th Star Corps on Bespin, and the 91st Recon on Crait.
- Not to mention opening up maps from the campaign. The 327th on Pillio, the 501st (or 187th??) on Vardos, the 41st Elite on Endor, etc.

As you probably already know, I think the default Republic Enforcer should be the Galactic Marines with a DC-15 blaster and a Droid Popper stun/damage grenade, with Wookiees available on Kashyyyk. Whether that'll be the case, I don't know (unfortunately I suspect not) but I still hope that we might get that in future.
I think this might be the better system, as it does allow for more customisation options to be added later without needing to purchase more whole skins like with pre-mades (although that might be better, idk) but I hope that if this game does get support for longer than just the start of 2019 then at some point we'll be able to see battles going on with unique clone armours, but all in the same legion.

As opposed to the 50 skins they released a few months ago?

They were the same skin applied to each class. Still only 8? in total

They are releasing clone skins for every class. With new Clone Skins coming with every content release. I don't think they would have put that on the roadmap, if they were only going to be like 3 skins for each class.

Jaig eyes for my heavy. Whether it happens or not is irrelevant. You just made my day.
Wouldn't it be cool if Jaig Eyes got into the customization??
Everything you listed would be great. I just lost it when I saw Jaig eyes under Heavy. Lol. Galactic Marines, Republic Commandos. Republic crests. Oh man. So much potential. I don't know if it would be profitable for EA, or what. All I know is it wouldn't be profitable for me at all.

I'm fully agreed with you man, it's just so toxic nowadays. Still, that's not the purpose of this thread.
I hope we get the comprehensive Clone customisation you want, Jack, I really do. I might disagree with you on a number of issues, but at this point I can't bring myself to care. I'd just like something large and suitable for the wait we've been through.
Unfortunately, I think you're right. Maybe more than 3, possibly 5-6.
But if they only release 3 skins per class. Even if they're the same 3 skins for each class, they've then released 12 skins to us. Then next month another 12 skins. I'm just hoping things have been changed since the leak. Helmets and what not.
If they have ANY interest in having this game succeed, they need to drop AT LEAST the same amount of skins as they did in April.
Arguably more than April
As much as I like your ideas OP, and would love that level of customization, it will probably be the above.
Out of the 8 or 9 clone skins that were datamined, it will be 2-3 for the August update, 2-3 in Autumn, 2-3 in Winter. And people running around with different legion skins in the battle.
The way I see it is this: I suggested 36 skins, way less than what is really needed to be a decent drop. 20 of those are just drawing little lines on the existing armor, I could do all of those myself with GIMP and a free week. 5 are recolored skins that reuse current assets, I could probably do those in that same week. 5 or 6 of them are half-creations like new helmets. 2 are full-skin armor art, same as the little lines but more extensive -- but like the other legion skins, they've had those mostly done since the game released.
And yes, the remaining 4 are full-out creations requiring new models as well as skins: the ARC Trooper, Paratrooper, Clone Captain, and ARF Trooper. But even a lot of that has already been done... the ARC's pauldron is currently on the Specialist, the kama and visor are in use on the Heavy, all that really needs created is the antenna. Same with the Clone Captain. The paratrooper and ARF are basically just new helmets with a few straps and some art decoration.
So I don't see it being all that much. Really, they should double the number of little customization options, the ones that are just drawing lines and shapes on armor. Recolor those few officer uniforms, swap around some heads and elements. Make the 6 new helmets. That's about it. It's really not asking too much.
Honestly, they really shouldn't be stopping at clones, regardless of what the roadmap says. With the same simple easy methods of recoloring and using existing assets, they could give us 3-6 new Officer skins per faction, able to show off rank, with a day's work -- black Stormtrooper Officer uniform, olive green Imperial Army, grey Imperial Navy, versions of each of them with field armor.
Then there's pauldrons for the Assault class, that's three skins each for Imperials and First Order. New aliens, old aliens, a handful of specialty jobs like the Nova Guard Trooper, the Rebel and Resistance Infiltrators, some Pilots for every faction, the Storm Commando, the Tank Trooper, the Imperial Navy Gunner, the Navy Trooper. Ugh. So much that would even be that much effort.
Incidentally, Ciena, Olive-Branch of Friendly Social Interaction +3? I think we got off on the wrong foot before.
Ahsoka, Rex, Padme, Cody, Mace
Bane, Thrawn, Ventress, Jango, Savage
Bring it!
I just don't think we'll get in depth customization. We'll probably get pre made clone armor, unable to alter any further.
the ideas are solid, but we have no control over their implementation or lack of implementation.
Well if we don't have fun with noticing the potential of this game then there would be nothing to talk about.....since Devs don't bother to interact or have conversations with us in this "live service" game.
