Allow Us to Shoot Through Teammates?
There's been countless occasions in which some questionable individuals have decided it's a good decision to get in the way of very critical blaster fire, and unfortunately, it's not the enemy. I feel that we are often plagued by our own teammates at times. What I mean by this is that either during HvV or GA there are times when it is most crucial to kill an enemy whether it's a target or an enemy carrying out an objective that can mean victory or defeat, and often these brainless individuals tend to get in the way of critical fire -- from people that not only have extensive situational awareness, but also good aim -- that can save an entire match. Just today I had someone walk in front of my scope and emote the other team (somewhere on the map they couldn't see) just to get sniped and me next because the sniper had moved and I couldn't track them any longer. Another simple example is grenades that get intercepted by a careless teammate sprinting in front of everyone on the head of the battlefront.
My point is, being unable to fire (especially in crowded areas) is a problem. I'm not trying to sound overconfident in my skills by any means, but I KNOW that there are a vast number of you guys that are going through similar situations due to your high skill level, and with this matchmaking, it definitely can feel like sometimes you end up with teammates that don't know what to do in terms of cross fire. I'm not trying to dog on "newbies" for figuring out maps and places with line of fire, but for relatively to moderately experienced players making these poor choices it's a bit disappointing.
I'm not sure if shooting through teammates is the solution, but it was the most immediate thing I could think of in the moment when this stuff happens. Either way, I feel like something definitely could be used to change this problem.

And allowing friendly fire would just be mad in an arcade-y game like this.
It's better to adapt, avoid clustered situations if possible (lol Kamino). You have the 3rd person view to see where your friendlies might come in from, and grenades can, with a little practice, be used to much greater effectiveness if you learn how to Kobe off walls or ceilings, far from the bouncy helmets of your friends.
If a clumsy player ruins your shot, be happy that there actually are new players coming in to this game and trying to have a good time. Everyone was a noob at some point!
I agree. Adapting isn't hard. However I think there's that moment everyone gets so frustrated like "wow we should have had that." And you're right, I accidently spaced out my disclosure that This would be problematic for heroes so I'm glad you mentioned it.
But like I said, I have no problems with noobs. It's the people that are experienced and make those mistakes that is the issue (it can be hard to tell though sometimes, but if you're trying to pick out who is who during a game that's also the wrong way to play!) I just think it would be nice to see something to change because I play exclusively in 3rd person and run into issues like Kashyyyk where there's so much space and yet someone will run in the way of three people in the hanger or early on in the map; yes you can relocate but at that point you have to cover so much distance it's better to just wait until they leave especially when leaving your own cover may jeopardize a lot.
But... prepare to complain about something else.
.
I agree and instant ban from current match with three friendly kills.
you'll end up with 6 people left in the lobby 2 minutes in
Pirate of the Knights of Gareth
Yes, I know that, best and most accurate players are left in the game, but that would be called hardcore mode. In SWBF2005 friendly fire was sometimes enabled depending on server, though it only decreased your score.
Old_fella_1963 make sure you read my last paragraph my friend! That doesn’t HAVE to be the solution!
A good idea. I should probably point out that in my mind “shooting through” a teammate doesn’t mean you’re killing them haha
I like the idea, the only issue I see is how complicated that will be for them to implement that such as how they will know if that is the case.
What if they're working on a milestone? A lot of the Specialist primary weapons are best suited for medium/long range. A less skilled player may just be practicing to get better at sniping and complete a milestone. I've been chipping away at Iden's Pulse Cannon milestone. On open maps like Theed or Hoth, I'll spawn in and snipe at least 1 kill before switching to my primary weapon and pushing the objective. Does that make me a bad player all the sudden because I'm not playing exactly how you want me to?
I should really start trying that in GA, since trying to charge at troopers with that thing has went well exactly 0 times for me.
Never forget
You will find that it's actually quite powerful and effective from long range. Like, really long range. OHK all troopers with full charge from my experience. I just personally find it boring to sit in the back of the map which is why I'll only get one or two kills like that before changing to a more objective oriented approach.
My main issue you are trying to fix a 'problem' that is player based rather than a real problem....
If third person aiming is clustered sometimes I go into first person to see where I'm shooting.
NO!
Imagine a line of heavy with explosive sentry protected by a clued up Yoda or worse, Vader with unlimited stamina standing at the front of the line
I couldn’t think of shooting through as anything but a last resort, but given some of these pitchd ideas are okay, but others lack a key element being that: if you have grenades go through, what’s to say literally any other object shouldn’t? It would be even more difficult to manage with bouncing and detection — it’s starting to look like this is sadly a better solution (especially since most people don’t seem to realize shooting through is only ONE possible solution).
I agree, but is there a better alternative? Better positioning can only get you so far unfortunately
Better alternative is to not hit your teammates with whatever it is your using such as blaster bolts, grenades, flash, etc. Every other shooter game has to deal with this. Not saying you’re not skilled or good but please try to keep some normal things in this game that doesn’t completely destroy it. It’s already a MASSIVELY Casual game and has nothing competitive about it. There’s no stats (so people’s feelings don’t get hurt), there’s no private matches, there’s hardly any small modes that people actually want (normal cargo and drop zone anyone?), and you even get points for just simply DYING!!. There’s literally a star card for heavy that gives you points for taking damage. The game is made for noobs and casuals. Don’t try to make it even worse. Just have some adaptability and position yourself to not shoot or throw something at your teammates. And yes I know sometimes they get in your way but just deal with it. If you’re good enough that one time won’t matter that much.
I see what you mean. Don’t get me wrong I don’t look at this as a competitive game. In fact, I know there are a ton of people that have previously asked to see stats, but that’s what’s nice about this game is that it’s not like most shooters in its “competitive” environment. Other games haves lightly similar mechanics, but you don’t often end up blowing yourself up (at least I don’t) because they’re not built like Battlefront in terms of funneling on maps. But like I said, grenades aren’t the problem for me, but I know explosive shot/grenades is a thing that is killing the people that use them. But even so, even Battlefield isn’t as widely team problematic (I say that loosely). My point is that prior to matchmaking, a team consistently making these mistakes was a one time no big deal like you said; nothing to get worried about. Now, it seems like every mode of GA can have this, more so than close quarters Blast.
Maybe the issue is in the matchmaking or all the new/returning players. And who knows? Maybe come spring next year this will have changed. All I’m trying to do is a raise a question and gather multiple solutions that I know I’m not the only one concerned with.
Yeah I gotcha, but have you ever thought that the reason that all these lobbies are filled with trash players is because all the actual good players who love Star Wars wanted something competitive? I know a ton of players from battlefront 2015 who don’t play this game and never have bc it’s so casual and offers nothing competitive. Most people now want something competitive in their gaming experience. And for some reason Star Wars fans think if you add competitive things into a game then there’s no chance for casuals which is wrong
Absolutely my friend. I’m good, but I’m nowhere near the best. And I’m fine with staying a casual fan of this game’s multiplayer. I’ll never forget someone in 2015 messaged my ENTIRE team just dogging on them for the loss, only to barely compliment the top five. I was first, but I was inclined to tell him it was just a game and that the fun in it is that it’s Star Wars, not a competitive shooter.
And that being said, I don’t mind casuals in a lobby by any means. It brings a kind of fresh newness where not everybody on each team knows everything about everything; that not everyone is going to get stomped. We were all new once. But there is a fine line between everyone collectively being trash once, and then getting match made with more trash. I’m fine losing to a better a team, but when it comes down to poor choices (some person’s placement in front of your blaster when there’s a whole other side to the room) that happen repeatedly, you have to start asking questions.
Is this due to matchmaking? Too many new players? Or just people that are trying to ruin the flow of the game for others. I’m fine with any answer (there’s nothing I can do about it, I just like to know what’s happening in our community and if people have great ideas to maybe solve this issue; I don’t have a lot of new ideas since I’m one of the many asking!). But I definitely think you have a good idea of why!
To answer your question, it’s the fact that most (not all) players who play this game aren’t very good. And to ask you a question about your “it’s Star Wars, not a competitive shooter” comment. Why wouldn’t you want a competitive scene in Star Wars? Why can’t Star Wars be a “competitive shooter”? There’s plenty of “competitive” games that have so much cheese and casual arcade-like mechanics (fortnite, CoD anyone?)
I guess I may have misspoke. It’s not that I don’t want one, it’s just that I don’t mind if it’s not. If it becomes one, that would be stellar, but if it doesn’t that’s still okay with me. I do believe Star Wars has more than enough potential to be competitive. There would be plenty of people to support a competitive Star Wars shooter (say if this became one) where competence would start to sky rocket compared to a casual game.
I agree but it’s just the fact that the Star Wars community is so toxic and filled with average players who get “delusions of grandeur” thinking they’re beasts when they probably are trash at every other shooter game. See not to toot my own horn, but I am a VERY good gamer and have excelled in all online shooter games and even casual ones such as (CoD, Battlefront, Battlefield, Fortnite, Rainbow Six Seige, Halo, Gears of War). Every game i play I can dominate and try to play competitively (such as wagers and private matches). So when I say most of these forum guys who claim to be “elite” are nothing more than the frauds
Exactly. Competitive games can get toxic enough, but adding an already toxic community to a potentially toxic multiplayer is a scary thought. And (correct me if I’m wrong) but I don’t think there’s ever been a competitive shooter Star Wars, so getting players like the ones we’ve described would be a given
Yes you’re correct there hasn’t every been a competitive Star Wars game “officially” but I know that battlefront 2015 was the closest thing we’ve had to one and I know tons of players and people who tried to make it competitive and hoped it would get esports involved. We played tons of tournaments with specific rules that were very competitive. Such as Drop Zone, Cargo, Droid Run, Multi-Mode, and even Heroes and Villains.
Oh man I’ll never forget “competitive Drop Zone and Cargo.” THAT was fun. Would love to see those again. And Heroes vs Villains would’ve made a great competitive scene (especially Battlefront II’s HvV if they could fix all the bugs ).
Yeah it would. How do you know about the tournaments? Did you play in those tournaments? Or what. I might’ve heard of you before what’s your gamer tag?
Oh ok. Did you know any of the competitive players gamer tags? What is your gamertag if you don’t mind me asking
You played though? I was already impressed, now I’m amazed! That’s awesome.
I can feel the sarcasm oozing from your words
Trust me it’s not. I wasn’t brave enough back then to hop in.
Then what’s your gamertag? I might’ve heard of you
I’m on PS4, so if you play that then it’s a possibility. Do you?
Yes lol what’s your PSN
