At pair level of skills, a player as Obi-Wan can't literally do NOTHING against Palpatine. It is an automatic loss (you can have a chance only if you catch him by surprise from behind). I don't suggest to nerf or touch Palpatine, but in some way Obi-Wan need to be better against him to have at least a fair fight. Actually it is a mathematic loss.
First of all Obi-Wan rush ability actually can't block Palpatine lightning, so this need to change. Second his mind-trick is a lot worse than Rey so he need to last longer, at least +2 second. Third Obi force push need a range increase at base, it is very short and if you try to charge it against Palpatine you are dead, so +3 meters at base. For finish lightsaber heroes in general need to be a little better against Palpatine, maybe they should be able to block for longer the lightnings or deflect them back if close enough.
So:

- 1 Obi rush should block Palpatine lightning
- 2 Obi mini trick + 2 seconds.
- 3 Obi base push + 2/3 meters
- 4 All saber heroes should consume less stamina when blocking Palpatine lightning, and they should be able to deflect them back IF close enough to him (Mace vs Palpatine Revenge of the Sith reference) @F8RGE @EA_Tom

No Mace was the only one able to do this because of his Vapaad mastery.

Yes, but Obi-Wan is more overmatched than the others. He takes the full 120 damage from Chain Lighting, plus regular lightning damage when CL is used on his block.

  • No on all accounts, he has cards for those things, and swinging a lightsaber around shouldn't block a continuous stream

To fight this Lord Sidious, strong enough you are not.

Yes goood only Darth Vader should be able to defeat the Emperor in game just like in the movie.

So much for the always at a loss theory.

Git gud and you can win with any hero against any hero. Just telling it like it is.

Hold on and we'll ask the players using the emperor if they dont mind standing at the edge of a death drop and wait till obi wan builds up enough force push lol

The emperor is always going to cause issues purely because of his attacks, he is a unique character in the game and as such they havent built a character to defend against him as to do so would make said character godly against other saber heroes and the rest of the games characters

This, but it’s only because chain lightning hits Obi Wan through block.

Oh yeah ik. I was just saying the emperor stomping jedi is normal & we just have to accept it

Yeah when I stomp Jedi with Palp on Mos Eisley, Starkiller or Takodana, they just needed to git gud and use a ledge.

Seriously any player with two brain cells to rub together is going to play a non block/blaster cautiously around ledges anyway. Pretending like the pratfall meme is actually a viable strat to play around in HvV (even on maps where it's available) rather than something you just do sometimes when given an oppourtunity is like saying Staff Strikes is a good ability to counter Jedi because you can get troll kills on not so good saber players with it.

Personally, I only play ranged heroes, so good luck ever hitting me from 30m away while you're camping that ledge.

Especially with Obi Wan, who can't even block Palp's lightning while I pummel him with it lol.

You can’t be seriously defending the original post!

All you have to do is get Palpatine off his feet and on the ground or backed into a corner. And yes, you absolutely can push players off the edge with regularity in this game.

Many ways to kill Palpatine as Obi-won...

Push him to get him off his feet and then close distance quickly to finish him off. You can push him while he is on the ground or in the air but you must aim the push. I recommend pushing over an edge or into a wall to allow faster closing time.

Use Obi-wons right ability to get him off his feet and finish him off. Can always be used after a push if he is getting back up. Most likely used if you catch him from the side or behind.

Mind trick to keep him from dashing. He can still jump but so can you and you can swing mid-air to get him down and in a saber lock.

In terms of defense. Just block till he runs out of stamina, which is pretty quick. And I don’t recommend attacking while dark aura is active if you can hold off because it slows you down.

Who cares about the 150 from chain lightening? You have 750 health and nearly full regeneration with Obi-won. Deal with it.

You can't seriously think that a good Palpatine just lets Obi-Wan do anything you said.

What's your strategy for killing Boba with Yoda?

What's your strategy for killing Boba with Yoda?

Will admit killing Boba with any saber hero is a challenge. But it isn’t like he is very strong offensively.

Best chance is catch Boba near the ground, push him and then get your saber hit in.

And of course you can block his gun shots to build up range on unleash if he is dumb enough to charge you up.

In regards to your “good Palpatine” comment...

Good players are good players and if they are a better player than you and they see you coming and have good positioning, they will likely win no matter the hero they are using.

Catch a good player in a bad spot or while distracted and you can absolutely beat a good Palpatine with the strategy I outlined. Again, you have to get them off their feet and in a saber lock or against a barrier if possible.

To say the matchup is always a loss for Obi-won is ridiculous.

Here, let me tell you how Palps can easily counter, each of these “Counters”
Get him in a corner so he can simply dash forward and escape as easily as anybody in the game and no, you cannot always push players off ledges, considering most of the GA maps DON’T have any.?
Many Ways for Palps to kill Obi Wan....

Stay out of range of his push and just zap him. If he tries to push you, simply zap him out of it or dodge outta range. If he tries fighting near a ledge, fight facing toward the ledge, don’t go near it.
If he’s dumb enough to use defensive rush, then simply dodge through it and zap with chain and regular lightning. If he tries to use it from behind, listen to the iconic sound of his DR and dodge away.
If he mind tricks you jump and zap him. He won’t be able to out damage you while you’re in the air.
If Obi tries to simply block you, take advantage of activating Dark aura, snd the chain lightning to take advantage of his buggy block, and DA to make sure he can’t regen. Keep zapping his guard, because you’re stamina comes back faster than his does. Either he’s going to try and run, or he’ll die blocking. Use one hand to drain less of your stam but more of his.

Like seriously, Obi vs Palps of equal skill means Palps is winning.

Can’t dodge while mindtricked or off his feet. He dies quickly, so just gotta get to him quickly when he is down or stunned by mindtrick but when used correctly, the strategy I presented is effective even against a good player.

But if a good player sees you coming, I would recommend backoff and come back later while they are distracted.

You guys just really don’t want to concede that the OP is wrong.

I played HvV a lot last weekend to get my triple XP on Obi-won and I even played Palpatine a lot. I promise you that Obi-won has solid options against Palpatine. And he has even more options in GA if distracted and taking shots by infantry.

I will agree that it is hard to get in on him in the open, one on one, if he sees you coming from a distance. So don’t even bother attacking at that time. Just wait a moment for other players to get into the mix and you can absolutely be the one to seal his fate.

Oh he's gonna push Palpatine away mindtrick while he's on the ground. It'll take at least 2 seconds to get to Palpatine he then gets up & jumps in the air & proceeds to destroy you. You're also missing the point you need help to beat Palpatine. All jedi get destroyed by palpatine & Palpatine destroys Kenobi the worst

Lmao no. All palps gotta do is his super jump by the time he comes down mind trick is over

Then super jump and hit him in the air or push him if you have it available. Or go to his landing point and use the defensive rush to knock him down and then kill him. By the point you get to him, he should be laying on the ground anyway and he won’t be jumping anywhere.

    No.

    1 - Push - hopefully into a barrier
2 - Then dash twice to close as quick as possible
3 - If he is on his way up to his feet, knock him down with defensive rush. Otherwise, finish him with the saber.
4 - Then dash back towards him to close the distance and finish with your saber.

You only need the mindtrick if you aren’t in a good position to push or don’t have it available. You can also use it to close the distance if he is running.

Don’t attack during Dark Aura and don’t attack when he sees you coming from a distance one on one.

Do attack from the side or behind preferably in close spaces and do attack when distracted by teammates.

    Is this really that complicated?

So I am pretty much done on this topic. Die if you want. I am not just making this stuff up (not theoretical) It is really simple and I have done these things in game with a good outcome on multiple occasions.

    Have a nice day.

I am aware Obi-Wan blocks is far more inconsistent than the others, leading to him being destroyed by Palpatine, and more so General Grievous.

    But here's one thing:

    - A good Palpatine player (like myself) won't lose to any Jedi in a 1v1 scenario. On top of constantly attacking and draining your stamina from range, slowing you down, and hindering full mobility, Palpatine also has a unique dodge length of 10 meters ahead of himself (almost twice the length of lightsaber-wielders), allowing him to escape melee-range very quickly and efficiently - a.k.a. the best dodge in the game. He's the hard counter to Jedi.

So just because you 'hit him with a mind trick' that's not necessarily a guaranteed death for Palpatine unless you have teammates backing you up, you push him off a ledge, or if he is on low HP, but those in turn are not 'proper 1v1 scenarios'.

When up against Jedi, he's like a blaster hero, but without the disadvantages.
Man! Could this game get any more broken?

You can 1v1 me on ps4 with Kenobi & I can show you it's easier said than done. Lol what you gonna do charge push meanwhile giving me time to stun you lmao.

Seems to me that a good player would know there are no private match 1v1 options available online for this game.

Remember, we aren’t talking about 1v1. I never proposed attacking Palps 1v1 with Obi-won. Since we don’t have that mode, I am addressing this topic mainly from a HvV or GA perspective. Could debate a hero showdown situation and in that situation I would concede that Palpatine has a significant advantage but I would still say that ALWAYS is ridiculous.

But heck, you are probably right about the quality of players I have killed as Obi-won. Hard to know for sure. I am generally playing randoms on PS4 east coast US if that makes any difference for you.

What is the point of this topic?

Pretty much every character has an enemy character that destroys them.

Maul cannot beat the Obi Wan, Luke or Rey. Boba cannot beat a competent Chewbacca.

Grievous and Palpatine are easily wrecked by blaster heroes. Vader gets crushed by Lando's disabler.

You cannot buff or balance a hero around their combat with just one other hero!

The emperor is always going to cause issues purely because of his attacks, he is a unique character in the game and as such they havent built a character to defend against him as to do so would make said character godly against other saber heroes and the rest of the games characters

Yoda is very fast after latest patches, use it to his advantage and also use rush. It isnt easy to get flying Boba down, so look where he is flying and go there, if he is landing near ledge try to use push.

ROFL! I have played this game since beta... and never once as Palpatine have I been "backed into a corner" by a saber user lol... here is an idea... how about you just dash through the saber user or jump over them... I know it is complex, but if you learn to do these advanced moves, you will not get cornered...
  • Oh wow, not every hero can handle every villain. It's almost like there's roles and weaknesses in play for each of them.

Nice strawman... what nonexistent dots are you connecting to infer that I have never been killed by a saber user as Palpatine or that I have not been hit by a force push? I stated that I have never been backed into a corner by a saber user as Palpatine... if you get force pushed into a barrier behind you as Palpatine, you can simply dash straight through the saber user closing on you, or you can jump over them... getting force pushed into a corner as Palpatine means next to nothing due to his absurd mobility. Palpatine cannot be "backed into a corner" unless you intentionally ignore his mechanics which allow him to completely negate that situation.
  • of course there are opportunities where obi could win. if you want to sit and do a 1v1 duel, which to me sounds boring as this is not a fighting game, then yeah a competent palpatine should win that

Calling my comment a straw man is presumptive. If you haven’t been force pushed or killed by a saber hero, there is no point in any additional conversation. That isn’t exactly a straw man. You ACTUALLY made it sound that way in your comment.

I do have one more question for you, do you think that you can’t beat a Palpatine player as Obi-won? Legit and straight up question.

I do find it hard to believe you have never been pushed against a wall by Luke and then saber rushed while you were down. Classic example of what I mean by being backed in a corner but who knows, maybe you are a minimap master and have never been caught off guard by a decent player.

Assuming players are of equal level skill in a dual setting, a Palpatine player will beat any Jedi character 10/10... he is a hard counter to Jedi... the same way blaster heroes are a hard counter to him.

As far as your assertion that I am presuming you engaged in a strawman... ok... let's revisit that.

I stated "never once as Palpatine have I been "backed into a corner" by a saber user lol"...

You then stated "So you have never been force pushed as Palpatine?" and "are you saying you have never been killed as Palpatine by a saber user? "

So... go ahead and explain how you logically arrived at either of those conclusions based on what I said... unless of course you engaged in a strawman fallacy where you attempted to exaggerate and change what I said to make my alleged view more extreme and thus an easier argument to weaken... ya, I will stick with my original assertion.

Where did I say or even imply I was never hit with force push as Palpatine? Where did I say or even imply that I had never been killed as Palpatine? Both of these assertions are not something I stated and are new information which you are injecting into the argument without any basis in what I actually said.

You can't what now? It's easy to do 1v1s & most people that don't know how to are bad players.

I'm not an expert at anything BF2 related. But I've seen on YouTube saber user tracking palp. He only got 2 dashes. He has unlimited jumps. So he jumps a lot. Saber jedi predicts where he's gonna land. Gets there first and as poor palp slowly falls, gets a saber lock on palp. Once you are saber locked there is a good chance you can't use dash. If you can't use dash palp is helpless at close range. Even if you dashed, you only got 2 dashes. Jedi has to predict where the next dash will be, if he predicts right and gets there first, get another few swings before he dashes. I've copied this and have killed many palps 1 v 1 in GA. Completely different in hvv as there are no clean 1 v 1, as palp just runs away to his team. I don't play HS as one guy always quits.

Don't use obi wan either, but as I understand, his mind trick disables all ability and disables dash. What will palp do? I'm no expert but I'm guessing I know the outcome if I manage to mind trick him as obi wan. I imagine in HS (?HVV) the most important card is the mind trick increased range star card. I have been absolutely wrecked as DS when a whole team of LS is coming after my team and caught us by 2 different mind tricks from different directions. But I'm no expert.

Wrong, no character should be absolutely destroyed by another, it's bad game design.

There are plenty of great games with significant power deltas between various characters... it is not inherently bad design as long as there is net parity between the sides when all the characters are averaged. If you had 12 characters available divided into 3 groups of 4, and Group A trashed group B who in turn trashed group C, who in turn trashed group A, that basic design can and has worked in many games historically.

Do you find that it works in this game?

If you had 12 characters available divided into 3 groups of 4, and Group A trashed group B who in turn trashed group C, who in turn trashed group A, that basic design can and has worked in many games historically.

Do you find that it works in this game?

I find it works ok. Some heroes/villains have larger deltas than others, and some have less. Lando and Iden for example have small deltas... while Palpatine is extremely large.

You can't what now? It's easy to do 1v1s & most people that don't know how to are bad players.

Figured you would pull out something like that. I am obviously not going to coordinate a scheme to get a 1v1 scenario with you.

Done arguing too. The conversation is pointless and probably should have never bothered.

ROFL! I have played this game since beta... and never once as Palpatine have I been "backed into a corner" by a saber user lol... here is an idea... how about you just dash through the saber user or jump over them... I know it is complex, but if you learn to do these advanced moves, you will not get cornered...

So you have never been force pushed as Palpatine? You know that is what I mean, right? Push him against a wall or natural barrier.

And just so I know, are you saying you have never been killed as Palpatine by a saber user?

You only represented my first sentence and not the one that offers context immediately afterwards.

Done. Out of time today anyway.
