The Difference Between No Cards and $100 of Cards

Prev1
Not much.

I’ve just played a few hours of a mate’s trial and purposefully didn’t equip a single star card, and honestly I’m performing at about the same level (I’m a consistently top ten, frequently top three, tops the board occasionally player).

The guns-locked-to-progress thing has pretty much put the pay to win arguments to bed as far as I’m concerned. It’s the better weapons and mods I’m looking forward to grinding for (and they may cause a problem for newer/less frequent players).

The Star Card boosts are not necessary. If you want to support future dlc go for it, I hope a lot more people do. But don’t feel like you’re at a significant disadvantage if you choose not to.

You seem distressed and confused, is there anything we can do to help?
  • Cool story bro, sounds like you need attention as you know this is a flamebait thread. I don't mind, got some time on my hands anyways.

Cards impact game play. PERIOD. There is proof everywhere from Twitch streams, YouTube videos, reddit post and first hand experience. Your just throwing gasoline onto a fire saying they don't and you know it.

Further more.. I get you white knights to an extent.

It's just really hard for most people to be upset with the P2W mechanics sown into EASWBF2 because the game aside from the loot boxes, is actually pretty damn good. Personally, I love so much of this game and even with the loot boxes (which is rather disgusting) this game is still night and day from EASWBF1, vastly improving on the previous in nearly every facet.

Loot boxes cheapen the experience though and take players away from doing what we paid to do, play the game. Opening loot boxes, sorting cards, upgrading cards, crafting more cards and equipping cards is a time consuming tedious process, just saying that sentence makes you think instantly I am talking about a F2P mobile game, not a fully priced triple A. So on top of loot boxes impacting a players performance in a PvP game that is full priced, they also cheapen the overall experience of an otherwise great game. And yea, this game is great. Can't stress this enough.

Plenty of games can offer free post launch content/support while being incredibly successful. One of my favorites right off the top of my head would be Titanfall 2. I think many of us exepcted EASWBF2 to follow in a similar fashion. Instead, they mixed F2P mobile tactics into a fully priced game. Ballsy EA! I commend them for it while frowning but can't say the blowout from their fan base is not unexpected, surely they must of seen this coming. Will their gamble pay off?

I can't help but wonder which will separate the community further, Season Passes or P2W Loot Boxes? Only time will show. Me? I am a sucker for Star Wars and will be playing this game, shamefully I pre-ordered. But I really do condone the P2W practices in a full priced title as I think their are less abrasive mechanics/features that could be implemented that wouldn't turn so many players off and ultimately away from playing this great game. I even wonder if I will be able to keep up with the monotonous grind of 200-300 credits every 20 min game when everything cost so much that can easily be skipped if you open your wallet. I just hope the game can be fun for those who don't pony up big bucks. Again, time will show.

PS: I know how much people who use forums ironically hate to read, my sincerest apologies to those unfortunate few.

  • You guys can call it pay to win all you want but facts are facts.

Nothing in crates you can't earn just by playing. Good chunk of the cards are hardly what Id consider impactful. Even the ones that are have some serious drawbacks. I didnt even think to craft cards on my assault (Wasnt paying attention) and I was still consistently in the top 3.

    Skills beats bills

Sweet hot take bro. Only, specialist and heavies have been nerfed. Specialists in particular are practically unusable.

Meanwhile, you're continuous whining over loot crates is so dumb because the star cards aren't nearly as strong as SWBF15. Furthermore, the challenges and player rankings give you a ton of rewards to get you good cards.

Playing 150 minutes with one class gets you an epic card for that class. Plus there's the daily crates which have given me a star card the ladt two days.

The grind on this game isn't that hard.

"We need to hate this game at any cost, it's pay2win because my opinion rule everything!"

Still.. if someone buys loot boxes, they get an immediate advantage over you in PvP. That is technically P2W, sorry but it is. I can grind on my F2P mobile game and not buy loo boxes either, I can earn those just by logging in daily and playing the game. Does that mean my F2P/P2W mobile game is no longer that? P2W? This game is also incredibly grindy, which follows the same F2P/P2W concept. Bottom line, what you and others are defending is a slippery slop that bothers many other gamers.

Again, the game is really good and people don't want to speak badly of it for that. Can't blame them. It is just the way they (EA Dice) are handling loot boxes for a fully priced game is damaging to the community and the game itself. Another for instance; you can go buy boxes and get blue and green star cards that you can immediately equip well before most can level to craft them. This definitely isn't a fair, level playing field that EA Dice claims to have created. It only benefits those who paid using real money.

  • I agree OP for the most part. I don’t think it’s necessarily pay to win since good players should always do better than bad players no matter what equipment/blaster they have. If you are more skilled you should still win. It’s more of a pay to get unlocks slightly faster. That can also be annoying especially since the credit grind is a little too long. 60,000 credits for a hero is outrageous. Credits IMO should be rewarded based off your score in the game. With the current system you must put a certain amount of time into the game to earn the credits
I know of course they want to encourage crate buys which is fine, but the credit grind is currently ridiculous.
  • "Skills beats bills" ...but in the absence of a good mm system helping the less able appeals to me to get a better match...The MM system with an unsplit community will either shine or be the big source of frustration for EVERYONE

What is the betting that like Battlefield ONE they split the community by stopping out of region players?

In mobile games whoever pays is destined to win over people who dont. Same way with MMOs. Thing is, in this game just because you bought crates, doesnt mean you will win the matches. That makes the game not P2W. That's the thing some people need to learn, the actual meaning behind P2W.

My problem has never primarily been P2W, but rather the artificial grind that they impose on the game due to the presence of micro transactions. I could care less if the game is purely P2W with whales having the ability to unlock everything on day one if players can catch up to them in a few weeks. What I don't want is an endless grind that goes on for years if you don't pay in to the game.

Even more annoying is them locking heroes behind a credit wall. Just look at the time required to unlock a hero without the credit bonus from challenges, which aren't enough to unlock a hero anyway and are a one time thing.

    https://reddit.com/r/StarWarsBattlefront/comments/7c6bjm/it_takes_40_hours_to_unlock_a_hero_spreadsheet/

This is ridiculous even if there was no real world money being spent in the game. It is the most pointless form of "progression" just tacked on. Progression for heroes should simply be upgrading the heroes themselves, not grinding for hours and hours just to unlock the heroes.

Things like this in no way enhance the game.

You’re talking about a set of two to three tier-two cards per class, on average, for the top-priced crystal pack. You can earn two slots filled with tier one cards for your favoured class in a day, and buff them to tier two in two days. The best player is going to win in that meeting.

The biggest advantage I see is broader options, I’ve got some tier twos and a couple of threes in classes I don’t use often. But beyond that, knowing the maps, strategy and reaction times are pretty much the whole story here. You can drop me in one or two seconds if you outshoot me, and my two seconds of extra Inflitration cooldown isn’t ever going to stop that.

I’m seeing no big deal with it, and hand on heart if there was a significant difference, I’d have reported that instead.

You’re probably right. Too many people are shooting down valid discussions with “git gud”
Sure there are some whiners but some people have valid criticism that deserves discussion. In the beta one of the biggest concerns were the credit caps. We now have credit caps at the end of the match and no one seems to care. Credits should be rewarded off score. It encourages objective play. I could be MVP of a match but still earn the same amount of credit as joe jet pack setting in the back of the map doing nothing. It’s silly

It’s since the new influx of members post-beta. I posted this as my thoughts to the regular readers more than anything, I just forgot all the new crylords were here.

When do the forums close for all the "i cancelled my pre-order" people?
  • After playing hours of the trial I can say this when it comes to the trooper to trooper gameplay it is not so bad. If I used all tier 1 cards and was fine against people and their pre order epics. Where i feel it really start to hit home is the heroes. Man a rey with stacked cards is really not fair. And looking at vader and lukes star cards there is big gap there. They can literally get health on kill, increase deflect time (luke) or make their dmg resistance super high (vader) with various cards that synergize this. Its really not fair.

This is all pretty valid tbh and I wouldn’t be mad about hero card nerfs.

Hopefully they close at same time for all the trolls telling others to “git gud” because they don’t like credit caps for matches and have legitimate concerns

  • Someone linked something to reddit with a spreadsheet saying it would take 60 hours to unlock Vader... I lol'd so hard. Clearly didn't play the trial.

I have almost an hour of time left over I am reserving for more Custom Arcade, and spent easily over 3 hours on campaign, with an additional hour of Custom Arcade and 5 hours Multiplayer. Total of 9 hours played, and while Campaign and Arcade offer credits, you get next to nothing from them as the main way to level of multiplayer. In my 9 hours overall (5 multiplayer) I have a total of just over 30,000 credits. Take away 3,000 from rewards unlocked by just playing the game, that leaves 27,000 credits in just 5ish hours of play. Seems pretty fast to me. Now, Vader takes 60,000 credits. If I played another 5 hours of multiplayer, given the current credit gain that would drop me around 52,000 credits; this is where others have reported being at credit wise after playing 10 hours of just multiplayer. So in 10 hours of multiplayer you'r getting roughly 50,000, Vader should only take a total of no more than 15 hours to unlock (that is allowing leeway for various credit gains depending on circumstance).

Additionally, matches can span between 10-20 minutes (shorted to longest) from what I have experienced. So lets do some more math. At 10 minutes a match for 15 hours, would put it at 90 games an hour (much less than the afore mentioned 120+ games). Now realistically not every game will be 10 minutes or 20 minutes so we average for 15 minutes a match. in this time frame it comes to 60 matches in the 15 hour grind for 60k. So going by realistic play experience it is shown that whoever made the spreadsheet has not touched the game and has no idea what they are talking about. Probably just trying to spread more hate on the game.

Now, is 15 hours still a grind? Yes its 15 hours for 1 hero (note hero unlocking costs range from 20k for weaker heroes to 60k for the stronger ones) is one long grind, and you wont be buying loot crates in that period with your credits. Though that's not such a big deal, because even when playing without star cards, as long as you have some measure of skill you wont be noticing much of a difference. Additionally, as you play you get the daily crate, and rewards offering weapons, credits, crafting parts, and so on. I haven't bought a single loot crate but was able to make cards for my troopers just from the parts gotten.

As for the p2w qqing going on, its more of pay for an edge. As someone who purchased the Deluxe I have some epic cards I can equip, but behind those everything is locked behind player progression. You can't even upgrade basic cards until level 10. Additionally, even without upgrading, as stated by many the cards themselves don't seem to offer a large impact. I would say the only noticeable card is the extended shield for the Heavy class, and even that gets blasted through fast in a firefight.

Point I am trying to make is this: Is the game perfect? No. Is it fun? Hell yes. Can it be improved? Sure. Is it as bad as everyone is saying with p2w and terribly grindy and so on? Not so much. Perhaps people should stop acting like ***** and I don't know... try and think and experience things themselves before parroting nonsense spread by those trying to make money off of YouTube by spreading fear mongering or those just wanting to hurt the games sales.

Lol kinda ironic. I’m not sure why anyone would be ok with credit caps. Telling people to “git gud” contradicts people’s point of nothing being wrong with the credit system, as someone being “gud” at the game will reward nothing.
  • Just wondering @revan225 when you earned those credits, did you turn in the challanges? Because i heard some are big credits rewards, one time only.

Your post is solid dont get me wrong, but without the challenge bonuses, it does become alot longer to grind the amount off credits one might need.

I agree OP for the most part.
I know of course they want to encourage crate buys which is fine, but the credit grind is currently ridiculous.

to just unlock vader it takes 171 games with an average of 350 credits

False, you get credit rewards for ranking up.

no you dont you mean challenges ? causing ranking up gives you 0 credits and im right do the math genius

and the challenges goes pretty fast , soon enough you wont have any plus the daily loobox gives you less than regular boxes

No Pen15 breath, you get credits for ranking up. Plus, when the game is officially released Friday, we will see even more daily challenges.

did you even played the game ? go ahead please show us a video of getting credits for leveling up lol please do it

You all need to settle down. He came here to give us information that apparently makes a lot of you but t hurt. I'm gonna loot stomp the lot of you on Tuesday. Git gud scrubs

lmao same but monday 9pm for me!

  • Not much.

Clever analysis, glad I was not the only one who caught this. I've seen nothing but "Refunding this Pay 2 Win crap" all day in game chats. *****, if only they took 5 minutes to appreciate that DICE has listened to its players. Nobody can realistically expect balance to be amazing on launch, it's not even launch yet... and if you do? You're just a bigger *****.

The biggest difference I could detect was the weapons you had to unlock and use. I am a Specialist main usually, so the A280 was not as powerful as it used to be in Alpha and Beta where it was top dog. Those new snipers really do a kicker on headshots and I'm loving it as much as I am going to love the experience of earning those weapons and other unlocks.

Out of curiosity, did you take into account credits that you may have gained through challenges or methods other than direct MP gameplay? The spreadsheet post only takes that into consideration, since Arcade, campaign, and challenge credits are finite (aside from the daily/weekly challenges which sound like they hardly contribute enough to be worth mentioning).

Yes, you may have gotten a lot of credits fast, but is that rate sustainable? That's what the post was getting at; what will the game be like after people have finished most of the things within a few weeks.

Also, if you'd bothered to actually read the post, the OP described how the data was obtained by direct statistical analysis from his own gameplay, so the assertion that he "never even touched the game" is basically unfounded slander on your part.
