Returned to Battlefront 1 and it was like visiting an old friend
I have been trying to enjoy Battlefront 2. I really have. The only game I played last year was Battlefront 1, and I absolutely loved it. I did finally lose interest after hundreds of hours due to the segregated season pass resulting in the maps getting a little stale. My anticipation for the second version was literally so strong I could taste it. Give me more Battlefront 1, just bigger...free dlc, new weapons, maps and characters...classes sounded great...was going to be so awesome!
For two weeks I have tried so hard to get virtually anything out of Battlefront 2. I am quite literally heartbroken by the game...which is of course very odd to say about a silly video game. Why is everything different? It doesn't even feel like the same series to me? I die quickly, I die often. It honestly feels like a Call of Duty game to me. The entire "feel" is just different as far as gameplay. I pulled a little enjoyment out of Strike but that was just about the only time I even felt enjoyment during my dozens of hours playing. The "feel" of the game, the "heart" of the game is just...so....off.
Finally I became so fed up I decided to throw Battlefront 1 back in to see if anyone was still playing. Wow. Just....wow. It was like returning home after a too-long vacation. It was sort of bittersweet realizing how disenchanted I am with BF2. Spawning with my partner, the Star Wars "feel" to the maps and guns, the pulled out view of my character so I could better see my surroundings, the fantastic progression system, the exchanges of gunfire, the radar that makes so much more sense, seeing number of deaths on the scoreboard, actual awards after the match, the pace of the games. I think I had a smile on my face for 3 hours of blissful gameplay. The teamwork was there, and everything just made sense in victory and defeat.
I am not knocking BF2, I am sure it is exactly what many wanted. It is not the game I was looking for and probably the most disappointing video game experience in my nearly 40 years of gaming.
Really no point to my post but I wanted to give a salute to what I feel was a fantastic game in BF1 and a plea to keep these servers active as long as you possibly can. I will keep tabs on patch updates and may try it out once in a great while but the soul of the game is just missing. I am heading back to BF1. It feels good to be back home.

To me, they sucked the soul out of the game in order to replace it with the Casino sLoot Crates and focussed on making it frustrating enough you would shell out even more money.
. The smaller claustrophobic maps are gone and so are some of the fun modes, but I'm hoping some will come in to replace them.
The game looks Breath taking, but the balance that made the first game work so well is gone. No more rock paper scissors of weapons, now they are just levels of power. There is no direct counter balance like before.
Seriously, the game was broken by the loot crates. Just like Halo was. Just like every game will be. Because sLoot Machines are easy money and the house never looses.
Just the players.
The game could be good. But Ea has said they will not change their core strategy. Which I assume is ripping everyone off by giving them mainly duplicates until they scream to buy a better chance at getting what they need.
That's where the soul went.
No small maps, terrible radar, no weapon balancing (just levels of power with no counter), modes that quickly get boring and worst of all, in my view the reason for it all: a casino rather than earned progress.
However, neither of the games live up to what the original battlefront games offered, which is exactly what I wanted, so that's the real disappointment for me.
I agree with you completely. I have the same views about SWBF1 and SWBF2. These days, I find myself playing more SWBF1 than the new one as I am having more joys from playing it...
EA and DICE should have taken SWBF1as the basis and add more stuff and fix things which needed fixing. Instead, they went for all-new platform for SWBF2 which is a wrong decision. Like the saying, “If it ain’t broken, don’t fix it!”
I agree with you completely. SWBF1is definitely more fun to play than SWBF2. EA and DICE should have taken SWBF1as the basis for SWBF2 with new features, maps, customization, etc. While fixing things that needed fixing. Instead, they went through creating a new platform which is a wrong decision. Like they say, “If it ain’t broken, don’t fix it!”...
I hope they didn't ignore the thousands of people playing SWBF2015 and only listened to the irrational complainers.
In my opinion they were right on track with SWBF2015. Most certainly gameplaywise. Contentwise is always debatable (even though I had absolutely no problem with the amount of content in SWBF2015).
I kind of keep hoping that they will change things for the (/ our) better, but since so many of the core mechanics are wrong, it leaves me worried.
Until then I will just keep enjoying SWBF2015 and its great community of players.
Besides that, i totally agree - The first one feels much more immersive, especially on the small modes. In my view BF2 is missing fast-paced small modes with trooper vs trooper, where BF1 really did shine. Reinforcements and heroes were never my favorite, Hero Hunt was a funny addition though.
Maybe EA will add some small modes with balanced objectives like cargo to BF2 in the future. Sadly, once possible new modes hit BF2, the player base will have progressed with all there star cards, so there will be no point of starting the game and trying my luck with loot crate gambling then.
The mode where BF2 is much superior to the first one in my view is Starfighter Assault. This mode really is fun now, and i never had fun playing it in the Battlefront2015 - good work on that.
Anyway - I'm glad, that i'm not alone at returning to BF2015 and Cargo - Hopefully many more will avoid picking bodyguard and bacta to keep up the fun
edit: Forgot to mention the DLC-playlists which still just suck. They should've included new maps into the old mode rotations and just add new playlists for the new modes.
Turning Tides might kill bf2.
Pirate of the Knights of Gareth
Going to give both games some time, just surprised how much I realized BF1 nailed really well and hard to take a step back. Hopefully BF2 can continue to grow into something I can appreciate as well.
Well said, Thank you.
I bought a PS4 console solely based on Battlefront ( ours was preloaded bundle). This was our fist console purchase since the PS2 well over 10 years ago.
Would I go out and buy a new XBOX One X to play BF2?
No absolutely not.
That..... says it all.
In previous Battlefront, the laser bolts looked like they did in the Star Wars movies - big chunky red glowing lines. In BF2, they're weedy little yellow streaks. It stops it feeling like Star Wars. It makes it hard to see where they're coming from, which is why we all die a lot, even though the game mechanics are really almost unchanged from first BF. That and the useless radar.
I also prefer the longer time to kill in BF2.
Something about 2015 felt really Star Wars. It had essence and it took me there.
Even the Sullust Maps.

I went from leaderboard in battlefield 1 to barely able to play in SWBF1. On the same day.
But I miss Sollust. That was a good WA map and a good TP map. And I loved, loved extraction until they broke it.
And jet packs were fun. But the lag and netcode in SWBF was the worse of any recent game.
Best gameplay for this type of Shooter ever.
Worst progression system for any game ever.
They got the gameplay down, and working to fix the progression system.
Free DLC's for life. And this one is 100% better than bf2015. Watching a Bossk get a 350+ killstreak is soo..... fun I mean like, he's so awesome shoot anyone once and they die. and I get health back. I lay waste and nothing anyonce can do about it. That's great gameplay. pfft. Now on the flip side, heroes in BF2 feel weak because they can't run around like Lando and Bossk could in BF2015.
This game gameplay is 100% that of BF2015. At least its my opinion.

See you in your next complaint that BFX(EA) is no way near as good as BF2!!!
“I dunno,” says the barman, “What does he look like?”
god, I do not miss BF2015. Heroes spawn camping...jump pack+pulse cannons...the loathed BACTA BOMB...the silly token system...having your hand held in the starfighters
You're being modest ... and the rest!

You do realise that all the items in that list that aren't PC-based hacks were fixed by nerfs in patches, right?
