The Last Jedi's Plot Holes Thread

Now I've talked about The Last Jedi lengthily in the past which you can see in my review thread linked below

But despite this many people continue to defend the movie (Which I suppose is alright it's their opinion) based on "Artistic Grounds and it's Metaphors" (If you want a movie that has Metaphors why don't you go watch the Original Gojira or any Kurosawa or Ishiro Honda film)

(Way better then this terrible terribleness)

So since many people are entrenched in this area why don't we talk about something different how about the insane inconsistency between TFA and TLJ that makes the Plot inconsistencies in every Michael Bay Transformer Sequel look seamless

Kylo Ren:

Kylo's Scar was healed, his Bow-Caster wound was healed, his various Light-Saber wounds from Rey and Finn were healed, his training was completed/Cancelled, and his scar changed places

Hux:

Hux somehow grew Obi-Wan Lamb Chops, changed outfits, somehow organized a massive fleet in the time span of 10 Hours/1 Day

Finn:

His lengthy Saber burn to the Shoulder that Kylo inflicted on him has totally healed, Finn's back-wound is totally fine now and his Jacket is stitched in the entirely wrong area

Snoke:

Total appearance change, New outfit, new throne room

Knights Of Ren:

They don't exist

Kylo's training was a big drop at the end of the First Movie and it's pretty much completely forgotten

And Kylo and Finn have zero residual effects from their injuries at all

The thing that has always bothered me about the Star Wars universe is that hyperspace isn't instant teleportation. What I mean is, I'm sure most people understand that there is some travel time but because the length of movies that point isn't really conveyed except for ANH when they are all sitting around chilling while travelling through hyperspace to Alderaan. So almost every jump to lightspeed after that feels almost instantaneous to reach their destination.

What ends up happening is you have a very poor grasp of time passage in the movies. Especially this one and is really my only real complaint about TLJ. The time continuity is crazy. How long did Rey get to train with Luke? Is it really 3 day Rey as they say? If so, why the hell was there a Jedi Academy and padawans trained since very early childhood. It makes it feel like the span of time from the end of TFA to the end of TLJ is like what, a week? Two weeks? I know that surely can't be the case but it is just annoying as hell and it could have all been prevented if they didn't cut back to Rey holding out the lightsaber still.

Also, didn't really like the magnetic Leia but that's neither here nor there in regards to this thread.

- Why can't the First Order use a short hyperspace jump to get ahead of the fleeing resistance ship, or why can't they call other ships to jump in and trap the ship? There is no reason for them to chase a ship for the whole movie. It's ridiculous.

Still at least he trained for 3 months under Grand Master Yoda in a Planet powerful with the Force

And he still got owned by Vader and had his arm cut off

The only thing that annoyed me about the movie is this: Kylo was able to penetrate the shields in his silencer and demolish the hangar bay. His fleet was able to bomb the bridge and knock Leia out into space. It seems clear with continued bombardment inside the shield they could have destroyed that ship eventually. Yet, instead they decided to recall the ships and bombard the shield instead. Why?

The one complaint the OP keeps having is that everybody is healed? That’s seriously the one thing you can’t wrap your head around, after watching an entire Star Wars movie. You think the first order doesn’t have means of quick healing, especially given Kylo Ren’s strength with the force? Do you not remember Finn waking up in a bacta suit and leaking everywhere?

Yeah, bacta and other medical tools in the SW universe seems like they can work wonders. Anakin lost several limbs and was burnt to a crisp, and yet he was able to walk and become one of the most powerful sith in the galaxy.

This. The movie feels like it was written by Dumb and Dumber. 18 hour pointless chase. Bring in Purple Haired Admiral, who doesnt trust their BEST pilot Poe - who was trusted enough to get the final piece for the map to Skywalker - so wont tell him their 'plan'. Just so we can have yet another pointless side story, mutiny and Casino planet.

Admiral Ackbar - whose death should have been what the Purple haired clown did - not being sucked out into space and never spoken of again.

Every aspect - the woman is there to better the man, as Finn is turned into a 'Side Show Bob' clown and whose greatest moment to sacrifice himself - is thwarted by.... another woman.

Then there's the Resistance bombers - if they had them, why didn't they use them to attack Starkiller base?

Anyone who defends this tripe movie has lower standards than EA.

And just before that in Star Wars Battlefront 2: Resurrection the main characters saw Star-Killer Base being destroyed while on a First Order Star Destroyer their next action was boarding a escape craft and going to the Resistance Base

So let's give it the benefit of the doubt and say that someone in the time-span of 10 Hours (Even though the X-Wings arrived far sooner then 10 hours) this happened

Oh thanks man, I already had a wealth of issues and gripes with this movie but now you've just dumped a whole load of new hot steaming issues into my lap. Every time I think it can't get worse someone brings up something else that made ZERO SENSE.

Also another huge plot hole is that Finn was struck in the back all the way through the middle so uhh....

Why is the Jacket stitching on the wrong side?

In a world where people can survive getting cut off half lying and lying in lava limbless its really not that to believe.

Also stitching being on the wrong side is a slight costume error, not a plot hole. You're upset Snoke changed clothes and is in a room you werent shown in TFA? These are nitpicks at best.

This didnt need its own thread. Not even close to plot holes and just excuses for your butt hurtedness.

So you are telling me that in the timespan of a day Kylo Ren underwent Surgery, trained, talked with Snoke and then was able to be apart of the invasion force?

Also if Bacta is so good then why did Luke still have that Scar from the Wampa for so long?

This film plays left and loose with the Canon so much that I honestly have to wonder if they even looked at the prior material to keep stuff consistent

Also there's a big difference between magic wounds healing in no time compared to hours/days long (Depending on the sources) surgery that ultimately left Vader stuck in a giant Life Support Suit for the rest of his life and which if his breathing tube was disconnected for 10 minutes would kill him

We all love Ackbar but as far as the films go he is simply the guy thats says "It's a trap". He has never had any considerable screen time ir character develop whatsoever, to randomly give him some now would be nothimg short of pointless fan service for the hardcores.

Thwarted his sacrifice? She saved his life. Finn's whole character arc is that he flees the last order but doesnt have any interest/is too much of a coward to fight them. He basically ends up in the resistance by accident and only really cared for Rey. This moment shows that he is no longer going to 'run' or be a coward but he will fight for what he believes and then Rose saves him and delivers the line saying they win by saving what they love not fighting what they hate. It was far from clown boy thwarted by all powerful woman.

There is a big difference between a really big ship and and planet, which is what Starkiller Base was.

The movie sucked from the moment they apparently "dropped bombs" in outer space in the absence of gravity onward... not to mention the entire Finn storyline had absolutely 0 point and should have been left on the cutting room floor, and the manufactured drama with Poa and Laura (how about the leader spends an extra 2 sentences saying "here is our position, here is our plan" and that whole drama is unnecessary). Oh, and if you can drive a spaceship into another ship at lightspeed and wreck it... why haven't they been doing this before??? Just rig a droid, click lightspeed, blow up star destroyer... movie was WACK

The best part of the movie is when R2D2 plays the Leia clip from the original movie... I think that says all that needs to be said.

They could have had Finn's character go down as a martyr and savior of the Resistance that would have cemented his Character's legacy in the Universe but instead we're left with uhh

There is a big difference between a really big ship and and planet, which is what Starkiller Base was.

They attacked the oscillator on Starkiller base - so those bombers would have done the trick in a blink. Now read what you said about Finn - which would have made it perfect for him to sacrifice himself at that very moment - but despite the First Order taking out those Ski Speeders, they kindly left Rose's alone.

As for Ackbar - you made it sound simple. He led the attack on the second Deathstar - and it was a 'do or die' mission. Much like Han Solo - the General talked about in TFA, Ackbar would be held in high regard too. Either way, it makes perfect sense for him to be the Admiral to turn the ship around - but then again, if HE was the Admiral, there wouldnt be the pointless side story of the mutiny and yawning story on Casino Planet blah.

Too much nonsense created for convenience. It's a crap film - simple as that.

Hux is such a brilliant strategist, scared he couldn't cover his fighters against a fleet that couldn't shoot back.

How the FO took over the galaxy with such inept military leadership is the biggest plot hole in the st.

He's at least bound to continuity which he didn't do. TLJ, while has very good Star Wars moments, is a well acted but poorly written film with a weak story. I can't believe he got his own trilogy with this heap of bad fan fiction.

Well said. There is a lot of good stuff in there, but the plot is weak, and what he did to Luke's character is a crime.

Some of my friends/family members who went to see TLJ has never seen a SW movie before, yet they knew fully well what was going on.

What about how the whole premise is based on the FO finally discovering how to track ships through hyperspace, and that requires huge computers in gigantic rooms with their own hyperspace generator, BUT decades earlier, Darth Mauls ship could already do that and it was much much smaller.

They don't portray hyperspace accurately in about any of the movies. I played the d6 rpg and they have a system for it. Iirc it's about 6 days from Tatooine to Alderaan. More to the point hyperspace is supposed to be ftl, so if they jumped even for a moment, they'd be light years ahead of them. As I understand it. Someone probably knows it better.

Well there's always the shield factor. Don't really know how their shields effect things. For instance why didn't the empire use tie fighters and the rebels x-wings on Hoth? Surely space is colder than Hoth. They could have been proppeled, they drop out of the ship and would continue thier downward momentum. Besides, they dropped bombs in Empire first. Remember when they were looking for Han in the asteroid field?

Star Wars shields were odd, you can't throw or shoot through them but you can skip on through.

This film plays left and loose with the Canon so much that I honestly have to wonder if they even looked at the prior material to keep stuff consistent

Also there's a big difference between magic wounds healing in no time compared to hours/days long (Depending on the sources) surgery that ultimately left Vader stuck in a giant Life Support Suit for the rest of his life and which if his breathing tube was disconnected for 10 minutes would kill him

If iirc, Mark Hamil was in a car accident, and they added the Wampa thing to explain the scars.

There was a time gap of ~ 2 years between the events of ANH and ESB, so they could have explained it.

The TLJ time frame worked for Rey & Luke, but threw off everything else.

This is all overanalyzing except for the lack of bowcaster scar.

Finn was attached to healing thingys for hours, we know nothing of the first order they most definitely could have assembled a fleet, Kylo Ren’s training could have been killing Rey, Knights of Ren do exist, minor appearance changes are expected between movies.

It's okay I get it you like the movie for some reason you like the movie I can barely understand why but I accept it

What I'm trying to tell you is that the movie is objectively bad and that is a fact it Suffers from Inconsistency, Forced Political messages that beat you over the head, bad execution of new and old characters, and a lack of explanations for what is going on in the greater Galaxy

It's okay that you like it despite all of this you are free to do so but I will not have you go into this thread, offer nothing of value, and then proceed to tell me to get over it

There are actually two completely scientific ways to easily explain this. The first and most obvious one is that the ships themselves all have artificial gravity. Which is why people can walk around in them. So, you open a door, and stuff falls out. Once it hits the vacuum there is almost nothing to effect the bombs dropped motion, and because of inertia they will continue on their path unless acted on by an outside force.

The other is a bit more complex without having more scientific information about the size and density of the dreadnaught, but contrary to the oddly common belief gravity does exist in space, and objects of massive size can even create their own gravity fields. Remember if there were no gravity in space then the earth wouldn't be held in rotation by the gravity of the sun, the moon wouldn't be held in orbit by the gravity of the earth, and the tides of the earths oceans wouldn't exist without the gravity of the moon to cause them. Gravity still exists in space, and any object with mass has gravity, so the largest object in the vicinity will attract objects if smaller sizes, unless it is near enough to another larger object to be acted on by it's gravitational pull.

Also, just as a general side note, most of these "plot holes" aren't plot holes at all, and the assumption that TLJ starts immediately after TFA obviously ignores the time it took for Rey to get to Acto(think I'm spelling that wrong).

Her story starts right where it left off, but thanks to the way the stores are being told simultaneously it's easy to forget that significant time likely passed between the destruction of SKB and Rey's arrival at the Jedi temple. That's plenty of time for Kylo to get healed up as well as Finn, let's not forget this is a sci-fi franchise with well established accelerated healing technologies.
