I bought this game for a friend who has never seen Star Wars. What advice should I give him?

He and I usually play Siege and Overwatch, but he's tired of Siege, and I haven't quite managed to start enjoying long sessions of OW (the problem is me, not the game, lol) so I'm only good for 3 or 4 games before I start getting antsy and want to play something else....so we haven't been playing much together lately....thus the surprise gift.
He's really phenomenal at shooters (he could be pro league in Siege if they still had it for the Xbox version) but he's going to be coming into this game totally blind, and I want him to enjoy it. He's out of town right now, and doesn't realize that I gifted it to him through Xbox. I sent him a text and "randomly" encouraged him to watch the first 3 (as in the original) SW movies, so hopefully he will, but I'm not holding my breath. He's 17.... Who hasn't seen Star Wars?? ROFL
He and I live in different states, so it's not like I can have him over to watch the movies. Story stuff aside, what should I recommend (cards, classes, etc)? I didn't want to splash out on the deluxe version, because there's a chance he'll hate it and never play it.......but I think it's super fun and bet my $25 that he will too.
SA is my favorite mode, but I know he'll never play that, so as far as all the other non-SA modes, what would you suggest for a new player...like what cards, what games would you compare to, say, "Oh, you play it like ___, you've played that before!"
Just general suggestions to help ease him into enjoying the game. At least he's crucial at shooters, so I think his raw skill should translate just fine.
Thoughts?

you have to be a hardcore star wars fan to like this game
Indeed. It's a star wars game before it's a shooter. He will not feel the immersion. Tell him to watch some. Rogue one and clone wars is on Netflix
I was hardcore when I was small, in the 80's, but I pretty much blocked out all the prequels, and I enjoy it.

Will watching Rogue One give away anything about the original films? I assume not, since it's a prequel, right? (I haven't seen that one either, but I plan to).
LOL it's all new to him!

Thanks!
Are you an MTH fan? It's pretty cool gif either way, methinks.
Thank you so much! I already texted him to let him know.
Yes! I grew up with it. It was pretty much my religion until I was in my teens. LOL
Joking, or for real? I'm terrible with Heavy. Always whipping out the sentry gun at the exact wrong time.
Believe me, I already told him he could/should skip them!
I remember kinda liking the 2nd one I think, but I can't remember why. All I remember about those movies were the horrible pod racing announcers, Jar Jar, terrible kid actor, Yoda flipping out (which was pretty cool) and Samuel L. Windu. Darth Maul was neat, but since I only ever saw each of them once, I can't remember any scenes or anything.
I do remember somebody playing real life Frogger jumping from speeder to speeder with what may have culminated in some kind of burglary?

A little of both actually. The DC15LE with Exploding shot is broken as of last patch and needs fixed. But currently is by far the best gun in the game. It is supposed to over heat quickly but doesn't anymore. So you don't have to be real accurate and it lasts a long time.
Oh yeah! But you have to unlock it, alas.

Eh, the best parts of the prequels for me was the Lightsaber dueling. Otherwise the plot was good, but some bad acting.
Xbox G-tag
That Specialist rework was disappointing.
Friends? What is that?
Kidding but Rogue One is the best SW film, nostalgia aside. IMO of course.
Yeah I remember the lightsaber parts being cool. Oh and I looked and the movies aren't on Hulu, at least in the US.
BTW my friend got on and played with me last night, still having not seen the SW movies, and LOVED IT! He pretty much got a kill as soon as he spawned. A minute later, I hear "Dude! I'M FRAGGING!!!" Mission accomplished!
We played about 5 matches of Blast (the team deathmatch one, I think that's Blast?), and he did awesome. He got a minimum of 20 kills per game, without knowing anything about the weapons, abilities, or maps, so his raw skill is translating well. He was surprised at how hard he was fragging, and I explained that SW is huge, so it's going to be more casuals than diehard tryhards.
He got a huge kick out of the dodge roll, and was elated that you can still pretty much spam it to a certain extent. He loved that the abilities regenerate, not like where you get 2 or 3 grenades for the whole game. He didn't understand the whole battle points/special characters thing, so that took some explaining. He was afraid that spending his battle points was taking away from his score/end round credits, so I explained that it doesn't work that way. (Nothing about this game is explained well, so it helps to have a tour guide)
The one thing he didn't like is that you can't play the rocket jumpers in first person view, so he's not going to be picking them, or playing HvV/Jetpack Cargo any time soon. LOL
He pretty much just played Assault the whole time, but I'm sure he'll expand his arsenal and figure out all the little nuances soon. I'm teaching him about cards and upgrades. Right out of the box, he was better at the game than I am, which is how it always is with him and shooters. I couldn't be happier with how it went.
Thanks for the good advices!
Edit: He also got inexplicably stoked when he saw a random wookie. "Dude it's Chewbacca! Rwoaaaaar!" I didn't have the heart to correct him. LOL

Speaking of that, a lot of people gave Haden salt for His “portrayal” of Anakin/Vader. If I was Anakin, And was completely morally conflicted/emotionally broken through the same experiences he had, id be an emo rager too lol!
Dude was racing as a slave, put into the Jedi academy, had his ego stroked and inflated, fell in love, was betrayed and lied to, even manipulated into doing horrendous things, lost his mother to a bunch of savages (even the women and children too), and to top it all off his Master/Brother tried to run his fade, and took his arms and legs. Then his wife died too. Man....
Dude had it ROUGH AF to say the least.

"Azier77, there's something very interesting going on with your Midi-Chlorian. The sample you send in sits at approximately 1,100. However, the specimen shows an unnatural behavior. This is extremely rare but it appeared that the density of Midi-Chlorian in your blood was altered at a different part of the body. Although the exact amount is unknown, further scan shows the Dorsal medial prefrontal cortex, which is situated in the frontal lobe region of your brain, carries the highest density of Midi-Chlorian. Studies have shown that the activity of this specific part of the brain was heightened massively during meditation. This is assorted directly with one potent force power, Battle Meditation. It looks like you're gifted with an ability of Battle Meditation, the power that can win the entire wars. This is already rare in itself, only a scarce number or Jedi has seen to use this force. But with proper training, you may find yourself using it to the highest potential."
Solid advice dude.

Hayden is a good actor. I saw an awesome horror movie with him not long after. It was the kid version that was super terrible!
At least R1 is available on Netflix, so he could watch SOMETHING w/o having to pay or jump through hoops. I might suggest that to him.
Yeah I think he's pretty much resigned himself to having no idea what's going on, so it doesn't seem to be bothering him.
Not remembering the prequels well, even I get confused sometimes.
Oh yeah, he thought the droids were hilarous:
At first it was "Why am I so skinny", and then it was "Roger roger!" He definitely seemed to embrace the madness!

Agreed, and from what I understood it was really George's direction to Hadyen. He acted exactly how Goerge envisioned so I never thought he deserved the hate. It always made sense to me how disturbed he was in the movies because of the things you just mentioned. He seemed like a good actor in other movies following SW. Although I do love how he was portrayed in the Clone Wars show.
As for the OP - do you think he'll be interested in a game based on movies he's never seen? I feel like if he ever cared to see the movies at this point he would have. Hopefully the gift doesn't go to waste and it GETS him interested.
Haden is Awesome! Watch his Movie Glass. Oh man. Or the other one where he can feel what’s happening to him while being operated on but can’t speak. Amazing!!!

He seemed interested in checking them out simply because I went through the trouble of buying for him.....but he's enjoying the game just fine w/o them so far. I hope he watches them. They were my religion when I was little.
I loved up the one that I saw him in that I really liked. It was called Vanishing on 7th Street.

Him: but not like so good you HAD to show them to me, like the Harry Potter movies??

Oh that's good to hear then!
I heard that after this month Clone Wars is being taken down from NF, so I've been rewatching it with my wife. I'm still surprised at how good that show is. There are times when it gets a little to kid oriented, but they are few and far between for the most part.
It definitely beats the atrocious "Droids" and "Ewoks" from my childhood by a giant margin.
Yeah Hardline is the “Voldemort” of the Battlefield Franchise. “He who shall not be named”

Only advice for Star Wars is to hearken back to your kid/nostalgia/imaginative years and then watch the originals, Rogue One, the prequels, the sequels and then Solo...
On a serious note:
I never understood why people hate on the prequels... Yea, I'll admit that Episode 1 is too slow and boring for me (Jar Jar needs to find a nice tall building in Theed and jump off it) but I actually really liked Episode 2 and 3, even more so than Episode 4 tbh. They get so much hate and I genuinely don't see the reasoning why.
I actually don't know how the game would feel to someone who hasn't watched Star Wars... I guess they wouldn't be as bothered with broken canon and stuff so that's a plus. But gameplay-wise... I can honestly say I've played better games, even older games are better in some ways. DICE can't get their head around the idea of making a Star Wars game with lots of content and balanced gameplay. I really have no idea why I haven't sold it yet... perhaps I need to know the end of Versio's story, or maybe deep down I'm a masochist who loves to play a game that presses so many of his buttons it could solve a 15 digit passcode in less than a second.
He'll either like it, or hate it. Either way just roll with it. And since you bought him the game, be a decent human being and pay for the therapy he'll need when he experiences the sniper spam and OP Leia on Crait.
Pirate of the Knights of Gareth
The first prequel movie...... did I mention bad kid actor and pod racing/announcers?
He likes the game, a lot. We played again last night and he did really well. Before we started playing, I had him go into his cards, and I explained how the levels work, and about upgrading and crafting costs (and about how you don't really "level up" your characters, the number is just the sum of their cards, which is confusing to MANY people).
We did Strike this time. He had a really hard time understanding how the objective works, but he eventually got it. He almost got a triple kill immediately upon his first spawn too.
I even got him to play 3 rounds of Starfighter Assault, which really surprised me, considering he's watched my SA videos I shared on Xbox Live, and said they made his brain hurt. I gingerly suggested trying it, and he was all for it.
He's never played a flying game before, to my knowledge. He was super confused, didn't understand about the triangles and arrows, didn't understand how to use his specials, had no cards, didn't know how to dodge torpedoes (I explained that and it caught, I think?).
I didn't want to overwhelm him explaining everything at once, so it was about 15 minutes in (after I mentioned it a 2nd time) that he figured out how to speed up and slow down. I don't know how new people get into this game. LOL
That said, with no specials or even gas/brake he managed to get at least 10 eliminations in his first round, and the 2 rounds after.
After 3 rounds, he was done with the whole game for the night.
He thanked me again for getting it for him, and assured me that he wants to try all the modes and see everything. I reminded him again that HvV is 3rd person, which he said he hated, but he said that was no problem.
I reminded him to spend his credits, and had him read out which cards he got. I'm trying to encourage him to lv up his thermal detonator (since I didn't buy him the fancy pants edition......he can suffer like I did, when a friend bought the game for me! LOL)
After that, we called it a night.....but I know that the game has now "caught" with him. I had a feeling before, but this time he just straight out told me that he's down to play the crap out of it, which is exactly what I was hoping for.
He's so hilariously Rambo at these shooter games, and he doesn't even know it. He used to play Siege with his sensitivity super high, and I've seen him "shoot in 2 different directions at the same time" (that's what I jokingly call it). He had a dude on both sides, spun left, shot one, then did a 180 and headshotted the other, in a split second. I wouldn't have believed it if he hadn't seen it.
He was getting so bored and angry at Siege, because his team always sucks (me included) and he gets tired of "carrying" everybody, the game sucks, other team sucks, etc. I had to keep explaining to him that the game doesn't suck, and his team doesn't suck that bad......he's just so phenomenally talented and quick that there's no challenge (and since you only spawn once in Siege, a lot of the time he was the last man standing, and would have to kill the other team by himself).
When I first got him the game, I was telling him how he's going to CRUSH and how many/most SW fans are casual gamers, and he replies, "Oh yeah, I bet a lot of them are old, like you, too!" *burrrrrrrrrrrnnnnnnnnnnnn* (He knows I'm in my 40's and he's 17, so my hand-eye coordination is nowhere in the same league as his). I don't even get mad, cos he's joked about it before. I just replied, "Yes! EXACTLY! You're gonna crush!"
Good times. LOL
