why do you like the new trilogy?
im not here to chastise you. im not here to say youre wrong. we all have opinions.
BUT
i am genuinely curious why those of you who like the new trilogy disney star wars movies like them.
in my opinion theyre blatant cash grabs with horrible character development/interaction/and plot. they ruined luke skywalkers character. have an obvious SJW theme going on. the fact that rey doesnt have any relation to anyone who matters is ridiculous and a let down. the fact that han solo and leia managed to screw up their force sensitive son so bad that he turned sith. the fact that han solo died in the crappiest dramatic way possible (he should have gone out in a blaze of glory in the millenium falcon)..... need i go on? theres so many more things wrong with these films.
i just dont understand how anyone can actually enjoy these films and call them worthy of the Star Wars license.

yeah same here. any movie can have a couple funny jokes, but as far as a good story and characters, these trilogies are horrible.

if youre talking about the starfighters physics behave in outer space, then yeah that doesnt make sense.. but on a planets atmosphere those dogfights DO make sense.
prequels werent even that bad. the dialogue wasnt very good at times, but as far as plots go it was far better than the new trilogy. and on top of that the prequels had originality.
The bottom line is they bought into prequel hate which is a vocal minority. So they wanted to "bring the fun back" and soft rebooted the franchise. Taken as a stand alone trilogy, this might be good. But as Episode 7-9 that are supposed to continue the Skywalker saga? These are bad.

yeah thats true. a civilization that advanced would be using AI. but then again, thats what the prequels are about. the separatists used droids as soldiers. and the republic used a bunch of clones. so in that regard the prequels kind of make sense of a civilization like that.
And of course the New Republic completely disarms their military, and really has nothing to show for the decades they have had control. One blast from Starkiller base and they are done lol. Come on. It's all a completely forced story plot that my guess is they will never fully explain.
But in a civilization that was sufficiently advanced Robots would be so much more advanced then that. DARPA already has very articulate robots and we aren't anywhere near that level of technology. In fact, it's probably not even possible to achieve that level of technology. So to have a bunch of can't hit the broadside of a barn robots is kind of ridiculous. But that's not really the point. Robots are still infantry. It's an outdated method of war even in our time. The nuke has rendered massive armies useless. That's why you've never seen nuclear powers mount large offenses against each other. Oh you have 300,000 soldiers on the front? Now you have 0.
I KNOW RIGHT? like where the hell did the first order get all those resources? they were done for. youre right it is completely forced and just shows what happens when a franchise is in the wrong hands. Lucas should have never sold the rights and should have done 3 more movies. hes probably going to live until 90 something.
yeah rogue one wasnt bad. a few questionable things here and there. and again with shoving the strong female lead in everyones faces. but for the most part it was good.
That scene was the stupidest scene in the whole movie. I'm so glad it got cut. It was not dramatic at all and Finn is not a badass. He hasn't done anything great in any of these movies.

yeah they are, but again this is Lucas' fault for selling star wars. but its also disneys fault for not listening to his guidance and shooing him away.
I agree but kylo is no sith he's a crybaby the sith in the past would of ate him for breakfast.
The first one wasn't absolutely terrible... it was just a trip down nostalgia lane which was ok by me to reboot the series... the 2nd one was absolutely terrible. Rogue One is the only genuinely good thing to come out so far, and it isn't part of the official trilogy.

So at the end we see Thrawn and Ezra taken off into hyperspace. The Epilogue shows Sabine and Ahsoka leaving to go after Ezra. That's after OT events. What if none of them ever came back?
So these allies that Leia is talking about in TLJ, could they be the Chiss? IF so it would be pretty cool if a Chiss fleet arrives in Episode IX with Ezra, Sabine, and Ahsoka. Maybe some Mandalorians too. They take care of the First Order Fleet. Ezra and Ahsoka help Rey take care of Kylo Ren and his Knights of Ren. The New Republic is re-established. Ezra and Ahsoka stay to help Rey rebuild the Jedi Order. Maybe Ezra and Sabine are married with a couple of twenty-something Jedi kids to help too lol. That's an Episode IX I think would be really cool. </spoiler>

I'm just saying that a scene where he acts all bad in front of Phasma doesn't fit with his character. The scared little runaway.
i aint paying money for those trashy movies. in fact last jedi just came out on digital release so ill get to finally see it and how bad it is via streaming once someone uploads it.
come to think of it most movies these days arent worth spending money on. movies used to be so good now theyre all ripoffs. every once in a while a good one comes along though.

They are stories that today’s movie goers can stomach. You forget that Jedi as superheroes and the white male has had his day at the movies unless he is the bad guy.
Profits. Weak story that everyone can like. A peppering of bad guys and bad girls. Poor Domnall Gleason, he doesn’t realise that he is the SJW pincushion of new.
Full disclosure, I freaking love Rogue One. TFA is ok, it has some great moments. Rey flying the Falcon on Jakku is dope. TLJ is meh. I like the Crait parts because I feel I have been there shooting all of you. But watch it again and there is literally no battle once the door is melted open.
Where is my movie where it looks and feels like a level of BFII? Intensity, people dying everywhere. Objectives falling and being gained. I want some action. Not a superhero movie.
TFA=7, TLJ=5, IX? I am unsure it will be more than a 4.

Overall, I give Disney an A+ for what they've done within the framework Lucas already set up with Episodes I - VI:
- Rogue One was excellent
- Star Wars Rebels was excellent
- most of the books and comics in this era have been good
- Solo looks like it will be good
- Rumors of an Obi-Wan movie starring Ewan McGregor have people hyped
Its the post ROTJ content that's hurting bad. I give them a D for post ROTJ:
- Aftermath Trilogy is terrible
- Sequel Trilogy movies are basically rehashes of the OT. Not much expanation for it.

yeah the spinoff movies look good. hopefully they will keep that track record up.
i told my wife to get it for me on blue-ray for xmas but wait till it's in the bargain bin.
Being a star wars fan i must have it, nice and safe still in the plastic.
The principle reason we like movies like Star Wars, Lord of the Rings etc. is because it is good guys somehow overcoming overwhelmingly powerful adversaries through grit, teamwork, sacrifice, luck, etc. Vader is probably the best villain ever because he was unstoppable... we didn't know much about him, and he never lost a fight until the finale of the final original trilogy, and even then only when his son tapped into the darkside. Right now, we have little punk kylo who got slapped around by some random sand girl... and his master who couldn't even manage to tell his weak apprentice was going to betray him. No good bad guy = no compelling story.
